Problem with edge rails, controller namespaces and routes
I just upgraded to edge rails so I can use the BigDecimal support for monetary calculations. I''ve just come across the following problem.. Right now, I''ve got a content controller which is responsible for updating much of my site''s content. I''ve decided to make this a subclass of Admin, so I can organize my administrative related controllers into their own

Bug: collection#create misbehaves on validations
So we have a Presentation model which belongs to the Conference model. We don''t want to create nameless Presentations, so we class Presentation < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :conference validates_presence_of :name, :on => :create end Now we have a conference instance called rails_conf. When we try to create a new nameless Presentation through the association

create separate plots by factors
Hello, I am attempting to create several plots based on "site" (~300 total) and am having trouble with the code. I simply want to create a plot using the code, plot(year, peak), for the following dataset. I would like for each site to be plotted on a separate page and the plots saved in a directory. Would a "foreach" loop work? I tried a "by" statement, but

Rspec devise, testing extended RegistrationController action destroy
Hi everyone, I have devise 1.5.4 working with rails 3.0.20 and ruby 1.8.7 . I have extended the destroy action from the RegistrationController, to soft delete users instead of really deleting them from the database. def destroy # raise resouce.inspect # this is just to see if the test hits the action resource.soft_delete set_flash_message :notice, :destroyed sign_out resource

Glued-together private namespaces
I've been goofing with this all day with 2.0.15 and I'm starting to realize that either a) I'm not that smart, b) it's been so long since I messed with namespaces that I'm going about it completely wrong, or c) it's just not possible. I haven't posted 'doveconf -n' and other details, because mainly I'm just looking for 'yes, this is possible' or

Macromedia Flash Loading Issues
I''ve discovered something very odd about the way Rails is handling Flash media. I am attempting to load a partial that contains the code for a flash adverstisment for the website. It was working ok when the code was in the page, but once I pulled it out to a partial (so I could use it on other pages) it stopped working. <%= render(:partial =>

Non-customizable parts in the routes hierarchy-chain.
Hi I created a custom route that looks like this: map.connect '':controller/:table/:action/:id'' Hierarchically, :table is above :action and :id. So, if we call ActionController::Base#url_for with an argument :table=>nil, we''re supposed to get a url with :action and :id set to nil as well. However, this is not the case: url_for(:table=>nil) from

Firewall.routing configuration problems
Hi, I am trying to set up a linux box to act as a router for my college. There are two different types of users; students and conference guests, and they have IPs statically assigned by DHCP, from separate ranges (but they are on the same subnet). The students go out onto an academic connection (via eth0), and conference guests go out on an ADSL line (via eth3). eth1 and eth2 are configured for

How to SELECT from multiple talbes with AR#find and associations?
So I want to SELECT from multiple tables, so as to be able to do "SELECT FROM foo, bar WHERE foo.id=bar.id AND bar.baz=23". How do I do it with AR#find? Also, I need this for associations. has_many et. al. have :finder_sql, which is nice, but feels like a Pyrrhic: it''s basically doing the association in pure SQL, defeating the purpose of AR. -- -Alder

can't copy files from Win2K RTM
I am running Win2K (RTM build 2195) and ever since RC2 I have had problems copying files from my Win2K machine to my RedHat 6.1 Linux (stock kernel 2.2.12-20) box. The Linux box is running Samba 2.0.6. I either get: J:\mail\archive\todo\dingo>copy dmail-122499 \\alder\mikenel Access is denied. Or I get a file with a funny character created on the box: [...] -rwxr--r-- 1 mikenel mikenel

File.open behavior for ActiveRecord, to ensure save after manipulation?
File.open in core Ruby is nifty, in that it automagically closes the file when you''re done using/manipulating it. I''m wondering whether there''s something like that for ActiveRecord? So you can do: AR.find(23).open {|ar| ar.foo = ''bar'' ... } And ar.save would be called when the block closes. -- -Alder

How do you delete a session variable?
Hi Let''s say we set session[:foo] = ''bar''. Now we want to remove the :foo key completely. How do you do that? Appearantly, session is a CGI::Session [1] instance, so it doesn''t have #delete like Hash. I tried: session[:foo] = nil But then debug(session) shows an empty :foo key. I''d like to remove that key, as my session is already pretty crowded. Is

Creating An Extra Association Between Two Tables
Good Friday Everyone :-). These are my models: Problem -> has_and_belongs_to_many :tags Tag -> has_and_belongs_to_many :problems Now if a tag does not exist and I create it and associate it to the problem it works self.tags << Tag.create(:name => tag) But if I have the tag already in the DB and just want to link it to another problem it does not really like me. I do it

Maintaining and securing the "Perfect Rails/Debian/Lighttpd Stack"
Hi there I''m planning to build "The Perfect Rails/Debian/Lighttpd Stack", published by Ezra Zygmuntowicz and Sean Schertell at http://brainspl.at/rails_stack.html I''m wondering what sort of constant maintanance that setup would incur. What actions have be regularly performed to keep this setup healthy and secure under normal conditions? Alder

Storing additional data on join tables with Rails
Hi there I need to store additional attributes on join table. Searching the Wiki [1] revealed two possible methods: 1) push_with_attributes, as described by Justin Palmer [2]. Unfortunately, "this method is now deprecated" [3]. Even if it wasn''t, there seem to be inherent problems with that approach, for example with updating those additional attributes, though Joshua Muheim

Saving and reproducing a POST request.
Hi I have an action which saves the originating resource from which it was called, and returns to it later. This is done by setting: session[:return_to] = request.referer ... redirect_to(session[:return_to]) Which works great for GET resources. The problem is that POST variables aren''t kept in request.referer, so this method fails when the originating resource is a a POST.

[LLVMdev] Order of glued nodes during scheduling
Andy, et al., I'm experimenting with better condition-register-bit tracking in the PowerPC backend, and I've run across a problem: the scheduling seems to be scheduling glued nodes out of order: Starting with this: 0x10015677970: i32 = Register %CR0 0x10015679080: i32 = TargetConstant<3> ... 0x10015671b80: i32 = TargetConstant<1>

[LLVMdev] EFLAGS and MVT::Glue
The log message for revision 122213 says: > Change the X86 backend to stop using the evil ADDC/ADDE/SUBC/SUBE nodes (which > their carry depenedencies with MVT::Flag operands) and use clean and beautiful > EFLAGS dependences instead. (MVT::Flag has since been renamed to MVT::Glue.) That revision made bug 8404 go away. Am I right in thinking that one of the problems with MVT::Glue is
