ARP queries generating entries in routing cache
Hello!
I''ve noticed a strange thing: when a client system generates an arp
query for an unexistent host, the routing cache entry is being made.
My system is Fedora 2 with vanilla 2.6.11.
the client is 10.1.1.2 with mask 255.255.0.0
the router/firewall is 10.1.1.1 with mask 255.255.255.0
Yes, the masks are different and this cannot be fixed easily.
So, when the client generates ARP

so many arp caches why?
Hello, all.
When I execute arp -a -n, there are lots of arp caches like below.
Surely, I set netmask and Broadcast without problem and routing table also no problem.
System is CentOS release 4.7 i386.
I know how to delete the arp cache,
but I don't know why ..
# ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:A0:D1:E7:91:CC
inet addr:192.168.195.36

proxy arp & gratuitous ARP reply
Hello,
My apologies if this isn''t the right place to send questions about this
thread.
I have a couple one''s about proxy_arp and gratuitous arp reply frames.
I have setup the proxy_arp parameter on a linux system (kernel 2.4.20).
Now, when I start a M$-Windoze machine it complain about "...duplicated
IP address...".
This is a know behaviour, and the solution is

Possible (or possibly painful) workaround for FreeBSD-SA-03:14.arp
Of course you should patch/upgrade, etc. A stopgap measure
could be to use static ARP for a segment. I have done this
for a long time with wireless hosts, since I'm in an urban
environment with many visible nodes, some in autos, and
ARP cache poisoning is a well-known DoS against wireless.
You may find it extremely painful and less-than-useful to
have static IP addrs, etc. for hosts.

ARP, EAP, and Wireless Security
I am attempting to discern the efficacy of controlling or filtering ARP
(gateway/client) to mitigate unauthorized connections to wifi networks.
As such, I am aware that EAP was originally devised to allow for:
" the negotiation of an authentication protocol for authenticating its peers
BEFORE allowing network layer protocols to transmit over the link" (RFC2284)
However, this

problem with the "arp" command (using the pub flag)
Hi all.
I experienced a strange behaviour in the "arp" command when I use the
"pub" (publishing) flag.
This is the scenario (I know it''s an unusual one, but it''s just for a test):

bonding driver with arp detection
Hello -
Was wondering if anyone is running the bonding network driver in
active/backup mode using arp_validate?
I'm trying to deal with really crappy network switches from Dell
and I thought I could work around their faults in the short term
by switching from link monitoring to arp monitoring. But I ran
into a situation just now that seems even arp monitoring isn't
enough.
This is my

bridge / ubuntu / no arp reply
Hello
I'm trying to setup a bridged guest on an ubuntu 13.10 but it doesn't work.
(Everything is ok with NAT)
Network sniffing shows that arp replies don't come back to the guest.
Test 1
------
Guest : ping host_bridge_ip (ok)
Test 2
------
Guest: ping other_lan_host (KO)
other_lan_host
- receives arp who-is request
- sends arp reply
