I can''t get mod_fcgid to work
Hi,
I just installed mod_fcgid on my apache2 server.
When I try to load my application I get an
"Application error - Rails application failed ..." message.
In my Apache2 error-log it says:
Premature end of script headers dispatch.fcgi
mod_fcgid process /data/www/app/dispacth.fcgi exit (communication
error),
terminated by calling exit(), return code 1
Any help with this would be

apache 1 fastcgi config correct???
I followed this tutorial on the rails wiki about how to get apache with
fastcgi working on a vps machine:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/HowtoInstallAndRunRubyOnRailsOnCpanel
In the tutorial it said to add this to the httpd.conf file to get fastcgi
working.
<IfModule mod_fastcgi.c>
FastCgiIpcDir /tmp/fcgi_ipc/
AddHandler fastcgi-script .fcgi
</IfModule>

Apache2.2 + what to get Rails
Me: not experienced with Rails or Ruby,
Problem: Ubuntu 9.04 server in my shop ...couldn''t get Apache2.2 +
Passenger + Rails to work for Redmine. (No answer at Redmine list and
I don''t think its their problem anyway). Also couldn''t get Apache2.2
and just Rails to work, though some people said it would. Webrick
works.
Goal: run Redmine on a server that also runs PHP

Recognition Failure
I keep getting a Recognition failed for "/dispatch.fcgi" error. I
search for a solution and the closest I came to finding one was
someone saying "look at the Rewrite in .htaccess and you''ll be able
to figure it out." Well, I can''t! If anyone could help, I would
appreciate it.
Thanks!

Rewrite problem?
I''m not able to access anything in public, everything seems to be going
through the rails router. As a result, I can''t get to stylesheets or
javascript.
I''m not quite clear if this is a .htaccess problem, or a router problem.
I eliminated the "catchall" route, so the last route is
map.connect '':controller/:action/:id''

Redirect 301 and cache
I want my rails app to redirect from no-WWW to WWW domain (for example
if I enter example.com/test to redirect to www.example.com/test). I
put the following code in the application controller and worked fine:
before_filter :check_uri
def check_uri
if !/^www/.match(request.host)
redirect_to request.protocol + "www." + request.host_with_port +
request.request_uri, :status => 301

Again on Apache 2
Hello everybody.
I know, I know, another post about Apache 2, but I have looked a lot on
the internet and I haven''t found the answer to my problem.
I have a Linux Fedora Core 5 box, with Apache 2.2.2 (compiled and
installed), Ruby 1.8.4 (compiled and installed), RubyGems 0.8.11
(compiled and installed) and Rails... I don''t know what version as this

Rails speed?
Hi --
(First time posting to the list...)
I''m trying out Rails on my Mac (OS X Panther, 1.6 G5). It seems...
kinda slow? I''ve even run it with FastCGI and the response time is
still painfully slow.
Is this just me? Is mod_ruby any better than FastCGI? Or is it rails?
Thanks in advance!

uninitialized constant RailsFCGIHandler
Hello, I''m trying to switch to FastCGI.
With CGI everything works, but after have done all the steps of the wiki
here
(http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/RailsOnUbuntuDebianTestingAndUnstable)
My application started to give me "Error 500"
Looking at the Apache logs I can see :

Apache not running Fcgid
I''m having the same problems as this fellow, Mr. Cheetham, in getting
my rails app up and running on apache2+fcgid. Webrick runs, but
dispatch.fcgi never actually runs, and apache spits out a grusome
"Premature end of script headers: dispatch.cgi" error message in the
log. Mr. Cheetham describes his problem at

FastCGI issues
I am attempting to get Rails running on Windows with an Apache 2 server.
I seem to be having some trouble, and in spite of my best efforts to
find a solution, I could not.
I believe that I configured Apache correctly. I have included
EnableSendfile Off
EnableMMAP Off
Win32DisableAcceptEx
FastCgiConfig -maxClassProcesses 1 -maxProcesses 1 -minProcesses 1
-processSlack 1 \

rails + apache2 + mod_auth_mysql + headers
Hello list!
I must confess i am kinda new to rails and my experience is truly
limited. I am searching to do a *quite* simple thing with rails.
I have a db. It has a table with users etc and works fine as it is. I
now want to add some very simple authentication mechanism. Instead of
authenticating through the use of a rails plugin that handles
sessions etc, I want to be able to route the

FastCGI: Apache 1.x or 2 on new Debian System?
Hi,
I am just installing a new test environment, but this is just for
preparing the next one, which will be a production server.
I am doing a clean Debian Sarge 3.1 install with stable sources. I have
to decide if I install Apache 1.x or 2 now.
I have read that FastCGI is better supported/developed for Apache 1.x.
Is this (still) true? What is easier, more stable, etc? I want to run

Idle Apache+FastCGI sleeping?
Wondering: Does Apache shut down inactive FastCGI processes if it
doesn''t get any requests for a while? My app works fine if it''s being
used regularly, but it will respond very slowly to the first request
after an hour of zero traffic.
Is there a way to keep FastCGI ready all the time, even when there
haven''t been any requests for a while? We''re deploying

Best practice Ruby on Rails on Windows configuration
Hi,
I have read many articles on the net today about configuring Ruby on Rails
on a Windows server. But there doesn''t seem to a one solution for all on how
to configure a new Ruby on Rails server. So I can use some advise with this.
I am using a Windows 2003 server and don''t get many request a day. But most
of the request are quite heavy. The main focus is on optimizing the

fcgi dispatcher crashing
I''m trying to set deploy an app on apache2 with the fcgid module, but can''t
seem to get anywhere.
Things work fine with cgi, but when i switch to fcgi, i''m stuck with a ''503:
Service Temporarily Unavailable''. There''s no error being logged anywhere,
afaik.
Trying to run dispatch.fcgi from the shell doesn''t work either. It bombs
out,
