LVM Snapshot Create Error
Just discovered that on CentOS 4.1 when you issue the command: lvcreate -s -n temp -L2G /dev/vgname/lvname to create a snapshot, you get the error message: snapshot: Required device-mapper target(s) not detected in your kernel I've checked and recheck my spelling and tried using the device created under /dev/mapper. I've tried it on both x86_64 and on i386. Works as expected under

Freeing pv space for snapshots

CentOS 7 - xfs shrink & expand
I'm having some difficulty finding a method to shrink my /home to expand my /.? They both correspond to LVMs.? It is my understanding that one cannot shrink a xfs filesystem.? One must back it up (xfsdump), remove (lvremove) redefine it and then restore it back (xfsrestore). Okay, I'm running into a problem where /home? needs to be "unused".? If tried going in to

Cannot remove lvs associated with deleted vm guests
At the beginning of January I encountered a problem where several vm guests on a single host somehow managed to see the the virtual disks assigned to other guests on the same hosts. I was unable to resolve this situation and shutdown the affected guests after creating new guest instances and moving the services and data off the corrupted guests. I have since removed these guests via virt-manager

Best way to take snapshots of iSCSI devices using Open-iSCSI + CentOS
Hi, I want to take snapshots of a iSCSI devices from a target that hasn't snapshot/cloning capabilities (it's a Infortrend A16E storage array). What method are you using to make snapshots/clones of iSCSI targets using Open-iSCSI + CentOS? What about using Open-iSCSI + LVM snapshots system? For example: - Take a LVM snapshot in the initiator with "lvcreate". - Give read-only

Xen and LVM, bug at arch/x86/xen/mmu.c:1649?
I have a kernel BUG() most of the time when updating my LVM configuration. I created a bug report on kernel linux-2.6 package as it looked related to kernel; but searching through bug reports, it look like it's Xen related. - No similar bug report about LVM crash for non-xen user - Other Xen users have similar errors: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=615048 "base: After

Questions on qcow, qcow2 versus LVM
I''ve been using lvm under centos to create the backing store for domUs and although the performance seems acceptable it has some shortcomings. The biggest of which is the LVM bug which prevents me from removing an lv (it says it is still mounted and it definitely isnt). I thought this was just a centos bug but it appears to be evident in debian and ubuntu too and I really can''t

newbie question re block-attach on ubuntu 11.10
I''m a complete newbie at Xen, just getting started. I was happy to see that Ubuntu 11.10 includes Xen again, http://zulcss.wordpress.com/2011/09/04/xen-4-1-1-on-ubuntu/ So I installed ubuntu 11.10''s precompiled Xen, and started playing around with it. I''m not even trying to start another VM at the moment, just playing around with mounting block devices, and had trouble

can not lvcreate after lvm snapshot and "xm mem-set" and lvremove
I am not sure if it''s a xen bug or lvm bug, or just my bad hardware, but here''s how to reproduce: /dev/vg0/centos1 is lvm block used by a domainU, it''s 8G in size. #lvcreate -L8192M -s -n snap1 vg0 #mount /dev/vg0/snap1 /mnt do some copying files here #umount /mnt #lvremove /dev/vg0/snap1 not removed! it says can''t allocated memory #xm mem-set 0 512 #lvremove

This lays the groundwork for setting Root and RootBackup onto individual partitions for multiple disk installations in the future. LVM Snapshots -broken ? Ever worked ?
I've upgraded my x86_64 4.2 box to the latest kernel 2.6.9.34 and tried an lvm snapshot. It worked fine and I was able to mount the snapshot etc. Now I cannot seem to remove the snapshot. If I try a 'lvremove' it asks if I want to remove the 'active' snapshot, if I say yes it just hangs and the box goes to 99% wait io, however the disk lights do not come on during this. The

can I clone a runiung domU?
Hi all I''d like to know if it''s possible to clone a running domU. I need to make an exact copy of an existing CentOS xen domU, but without taking it offline. I''m using LVM, so I don''t know if it will help. I have tried doing it with dd, after shutting down the domU, but it takes ages. The LVM image is 30GB. I can''t really afford to have the
