Help -- LVM snapshot full -- how do I recover?
Hi --
I forgot to remove an LVM snapshot after making a backup. Now neither
the snapshot nor the original volume are available.
How do I recover and get the original volume back online?
Currently, the output of lvs looks like

Xen stress testing for production
Hi --
I''m just a little nervous about deploying my Xen VMs. Will they perform
when in actual production? How stable is Xen, really?
So, I thought I would do some stress testing before deploying it. I''d
like to test VMs running various services, alone and all together...
DNS, HTTP/S, Tomcat, IMAP/SMTPD.
Does anyone here have suggestions for load generating software? Or, has

interesting kvm lvm collision issue
I've been running into a reproducible problem when using default LVM volume
group names to present block devices for virtual machines in KVM, and I'm
wondering why it is happening.
On dom0 I make a default VolGroup00 for the operating system. I make a
second VolGroup01 for logical volumes that will be block devices for virtual
systems.
In VolGroup01, I make two lv's for one system:

yum kernel update problem
On the subject of kernel updates:
I had my install kernel (2.6.18-8.el5xen) and 2.6.18-8.1.8.el5xen on the box.
I was unable to originally boot the update (8.1.8xen) because of the 3ware
driver issues (I needed to use a driver floppy at install time).
I jumped through some hoops (which I am struggling to understand) with
weak-updates to get the 2.6.18-8.1.8 kernel to see my raid devices, which

My external node classifier script is totally ignored
Hi,
I just added an external classifier script, and things
are not working as I expected to.
Trying to read documentation about ext.nodes and
searching the archives I couldn''t come up with any
useful results.
My classifier script outputs:

How do boot a xen domu into run level 1
Hi,
I have a C5.8 machine with several DomU's. I fubared the fstab on one of them
and I need to get it into single user mode.
Does anyone know how to do that? I tried adding single to the extras line
in /etc/xen/machine_name but it still tries to start in level 3.
To make things worse, the root partition is on LVM.
Alternatively, does anyone know how to access the image from DomU? I tried

How do I create an initrd for a vm that is using lvm ?
Hi All,
I am trying to create an initrd for a VM which uses LVM as its root
partition. I am running the mkinitrd command a dom0 that also uses LVM -
dom0''s volume group is "XenHost" while the VM''s volume group is "VG_VM10"
(not sure if that matters). I issue the mkinitrd command from a chroot''d
environment so I get the right /lib/modules &

how to make initrd image for dom0
Hi.
I am trying to make initrd for xen0 but I am not successful. I receive
error:
#yaird error: Could not read output for /sbin/modprobe -v -n
--show-depends --set-version 2.6.16.33-xen0 evdev (fatal).
If I do that just for xen kernel (not xen0) it goes without any problem.
I guest I have to use initrd for xen0 otherwise it does not want to
boot. Similarly, xen kernel without initrd will not

Why I have to first do "make world"?
Hi.
Could you please tell me why I have to do first "make world && make
install" before I can compile dom0 and domU kernels? (I read it on
www.howtoforge.com)
I did not have to do that with previous version 3.0.1. where I compiled
dom0 and domU straight away and then boot from dom0.
Thank you

Migrating from KVM to XEN - kernel panic
First let me say that I'm not a sysadmin, but am simply wearing that hat
this week so please excuse my ignorance. I need to temporarily move some
virtual servers from a CentOS-KVM platform to a CentOS-XEN platform while I
do some upgrades to the CentOS box. I've created a local LV, and used DD
and SCP to transfer the block device from the VKM machine to the XEN
machine. For quite a
