ez-where headscratch
Hi there, I''m puzzled by this apparently simple query I can''t manage to reassemble using ez_where plugin. cond = Caboose::EZ::Condition.new :my_table do start_on < Time.now any {end_on > Time.now; end_on.nil?} end I keep getting the following result : >> cond.to_sql => ["my_table.start_on < ? ez_where query question
I''m having fun composing queries with ez_where, but am stuck on how to formulate the following using the ez syntax: (begin_date >= ? OR end_date >= ?) AND (description LIKE ? OR name LIKE ?) There are two clauses, each containing OR operators (the ez ''any'' syntax) but both clauses must evaulate to true for a match. Can anyone suggest the proper way to construct

Dynamically created queries
Hello, I am having difficulty dynamically building a query. I want to ensure that I''m using Active Record protection against SQL injection attacks. In PHP land, I would have built up the query in my logic & attempted to clean every variable - a bit tedious really. I want to be able to achieve something like: events = Event.find(:all, :conditions => [**DynamicallyBuiltQuery**

alternatives to traditional least squares method in linear regression ?
Dear list, I have encountered a special case for searching a linear regression where I'm not satisfied with the results obtained using the traditional least squares method (sometimes called OLS) for estimating/optimizing the residues to the regression line (see code below). Basically, a group of my x-y data are a bit off the diagonal line (in my case the diagonal represents the ideal or

New release of ez-where plugin
Hello friends- There is a new release of the ez-where plugin. This plugin makes it easy to do complex ActiveRecord queries without writing any SQL. Ruby operators are mapped to SQL operators like so: foo == ''bar'' #=> ["foo = ?", ''bar''] foo =~ ''%bar'' #=> ["foo LIKE ?", ''%bar'']

problem with compilation of R on Solaris 10 in x86
Dear List, we're trying to install R on Solaris10 on a x86 (amd64). During the installation we pass successfully the ./configure but we get an error through the built-in function "_isnan" which we see existing in /lib When passing the command "make" we get : gcc -std=gnu99 -I../../src/extra/zlib -I../../src/extra/bzip2 -I../../src/extra/pcre -I. -I../../src/include

Problem with .libPaths & Rterm.exe (under Vista)
Dear list, I?m using R embedded in another program (coded in tcl/tk) under Windows Vista. In this context I don?t launch Rgui.exe but rather Rtem.exe. Now I have a problem finding libraries not specifically installed as administrator (and which are not in the path ?program files? but in Contacts\Documents of the current user). To be precise, the user launching my tcl/tk program can?t find

JOIN conditions
Hi, how can I get Rails to generate SQL queries with conditions in the JOIN clause? What I would want is: SELECT * FROM people p LEFT OUTER JOIN jobs j (p.job_id = j.id AND j.salary > 9999999) I tried People.find(:all, :include => ''jobs'', :conditions => ''jobs.salary > 9999999'') but that generates SELECT * FROM people p LEFT OUTER

Help me replace a for loop with an "apply" function
...if that is possible My task is to find the longest streak of continuous days a user participated in a game. Instead of writing an sql function, I chose to use the R's rle function, to get the longest streaks and then update my db table with the results. The (attached) dataframe is something like this: day user_id 2008/11/01 2001 2008/11/01 2002 2008/11/01 2003

Inner SELECT-s in Rails
Is there a proper way of doing inner selects in rails. Basically, I run in issues where I need the count of a query and end up using find_by_sql. I was wondering if there was any elegant way of doing such queries. Roland -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

Slice and dice plugin
I''ve been playing around with some easier ways of specifying conditions in active record, and have come up with a little plugin that some may find useful. Writing tests for plugins
I''ve been googling around trying to find some tips on creating tests for plugins. Am I correct in assuming that I''d have to have the tests as part of a rails app in order to test the plugin? I''d like to find a way to do standalone tests for the plugin. -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.
