Session access interfers with other model access
Sorry to be such a bother but I''m not getting this. I have two models: Emrec and Session (I''m using AR for session mgmt.) In my worker I can access the Emrec model and delete a record, AS LONG AS I don''t try to access the Session model. With the Session model access commented out as below, the Emrec record gets deleted. If I uncomment those lines, the Emrec

error message for record not found ?
I''m using backgroundrb for session management and deletion of visitor-entered information when a session is abandoned. The visitor can either click a button to end their session and remove their data, or backgroundrb will do it for them after 5 minutes of inactivity. Everything''s working fine, I think. If the visitor explicitly logs out, then when the worker checks for their

Clearing ActiveRecord Sessions
Hello all, I am interested in using BackgrounDRb to clear out ActiveRecord based sessions. I have this working, just with a small hitch, here is the code: class ClearSessionsWorker < BackgrounDRb::Rails repeat_every 7.minutes first_run Time.now def do_work(args) Session.destroy_all(["updated_at < ?", 20.minute.ago ]) end end It''s not very complicated and

repeat_every doesn''t tie in with first_run...
Ezra, Sorry for inundating the list. In using the autostart, repeat_every, and first_run, I noticed a behaviour I didn''t expect. I would like the job to run starting at 2am, and then every 24 hours. So I set first_run to Time.now.beginning_of_day + 2.hours, and repeat_every to 24.hours. The problem is if backgroundrb starts up at 6am (due to a code change or server bump), then the

accessing args in worker
If, in the controller, I start a worker and pass in an argument like this: session[:job_key] = MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :foo_worker, :args => {:emrec_id => @emrec.id}) How do I access the value in the worker? I can''t seem to figure it out ;-p Thanks! Bill -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was

Update
Folks- I just commited another revision of the plugin. Nothing huge in this update but some extra features. Acl lists are now configurable in the config file. So you will want to blow away and recreate your config file again. Thanks to Georg Friedrich for this. And I applied Gunter Ladwig''s patch for singleton worker classes. These are workers that only have one instance of

can a worker commit suicide?
Can a worker kill themselves when they''re ''done''? Or do I have to do that either from the controller or the worker manager? Connection to backgroundrb is lost when exiting action method
Hey. I have a very annoying problem, and was wondering what is wrong. Suppose I have backgroundrb running, and then I have an action in some controller. In the action I define a worker. When leaving the action, suddenly the connection to backgroundrb is lost: DRb URI: druby://localhost:22222 Pid: 3976 Autostart... done druby://localhost:42531 - #<Errno::EBADF: Bad file descriptor -

Session magic question
Greetings! I could really use some help understanding what Rails puts into the session store related to the objects it creates. I''ve found documentation on how _I_ can put / get info into it, but can''t find the docs on what _Rails_ puts into it. I''ve got a simple app that collects some data from the user, stores it in a db record, allows the user to edit it, display

Duplicate record weirdness ?
First off BackgroundRb rocks!!!!. Top marks Ezra, it''s gone a long way to stopping us from doing a nasty curl/cron hack :) Okay so here''s what we''re using it for. We''re synchronising data from a Filemaker database, via web service equest, into a mysql database via a rails model called ''Syncer'' [How''s that for an oddball use case!].

trouble creating new records
Is it possible to create / save a new record from a controller other than the one I specified when I created the scaffolding? My situation is that I have two tables. Emrecs is the parent. Actors is the child and has a foreign key named emrec_id that references emrec.id. I scaffolded both, creating controllers and views for each. My app collects info from the user to fill in the two tables,

Unintended thread forked in autostart
Hello all, I''ve got the problem about the following simple application using autostart and repeat_every. A thread(?) is forked for processing task at first, but at sencond time two threads seem to be forked. My simple application code is... - In worker class class FooWorker < BackgrounDRb:Rails repeat_every 2.minutes first_run Time.now def do_work puts Time.now.to_s +

Forward of moderated message
OK I know whats happening. Your while loop completes and calls kill on the worker before your task_progress controller method ever gets called> So the worker is deleted and when you try to access it from rails you get an error because there is no longer a worker at that job key. The kill method is meant to be used within a worker that you fire and forget. If you want to get the

Worker suicide
Hi the list people, hi Ezra, I just read from this message http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/backgroundrb-devel/2006-July/000134.html that BackgrounDRb will offer a way to kill a worker from within itself. As this message is from 7/25, I wonder if this feature has been added since. If not, is there any way to do it? I tried this: MiddleMan.delete_worker(@_job_key) But it raise: uninitialized

Tasks get executed twice with repeat_every
I have a simple worker that I set up with repeat_every: class DueNoteQueuerWorker < BackgrounDRb::Rails repeat_every 1.minutes first_run Time.now def do_work(args) @logger.debug("Sending due notes. The current time is #{Time.now}") end end I want this to run every minute, all the time. The first run is fine, but it seems that subsequent runs get executed

Need help understanding Rails magic!
Hi, I''ve just been pleasantly surprised, again, by how much Rails does for me, but I am *really* surprised. Surprised as in "how the heck did that happen?" I''d really like to understand this and would appreciate any help. Big picture... the user is presented with a form that allows them to select one or more check boxes to record their allergies. The form uses the

syntax for specifying :html fallback on form_remote_tag
Has anyone gotten the :html option for specifying a ''fallback'' action if javascript''s not enabled working on form_remote_tag (or remote_form_for)? I can''t figure out how to specify the action that''s supposed to be invoked if js _is_ enabled. Or maybe I''m just misunderstanding how this thing is supposed to work. I was assuming

Sessid.
How can I get the sessid from the current session object? For instance, I log in the system, and want to know which sessid I''m using. I''m storing the session using active_record. Later on, I want to restore a session finding it using the sessid. Thanks in advance. Fernando Lujan

deployment issues?
Thanks to many of you, I''ve got my session management working with BackGrounDRb. Very cool. So now I need to deploy it. I''m on a shared hosting plan (at a2hosting in case that matters). Are there any issues I should expect to have to deal with in getting them to deploy the plugin? Anything special I need to do? I''m wondering in particular about the ''start
