Baffled: triggering error message with an sd result in odfWeave?
I hope someone can point out my stupid error, because I'm baffled.
I am calculating a bunch of variable values and then placing them in a
document using odfWeave tags.
This is working very nicely for every spot except one.
One of the values I calculate is traindev:
traindev <- if (trainlength>0) round(sd(trainscores, na.rm=T),1) else ""
when I try to insert this traindev

Is STI the only way to do inheritance?
I''m currently coding a system which must store multiple contact methods for
a user (phone, email, postal address etc). I''m planning a fairly
straightforward inheritance hierachy for these, where each different method
inherits from something like a ContactMethod class.
The only mention of ActiveRecord support for inheritance I can find in the
Wiki and the Agile Web Dev book is

sqldf and not converting integers to floating point in SQLite
Hi,
I have following 2 tables:
Table 1:
POSTAL | VALUE
1000|49
1010|100
1020|50
Table 2:
INSEE | POSTAL
A|1000
B|1000
C|1010
D|1020
I would like to convert this to the following:
INSEE | VALUE_SPREAD
A|24.5
B|24.5
C|100
D|50
I can achieve this with a nested SQL query (through counting the
number of POSTAL that belong to any given INSEE, and diving the value
of the postal in that INSEE by

Hello.
The acts_as_versioned plugin works fine ... till the adjunction
of optimistic locking via the lock_version table column.

A.R. Associations problem
Hello,
I''m learning A.R Associations by creating a simple forum that consists
of 3 tables: ahuthors, topics and posts. This is the schema:
class AddAuthorAndTopicAndPostTables < ActiveRecord::Migration
def self.up
create_table :authors do |t|
t.column :username, :string
t.column :email, :string
t.column :created_on, :datetime
end

rake migrate VERSION=0 doesn''t appear to execute
All,
I''ve decided to jump into Migrations before I get too far along on the
DB side of things.
I already have some tables built, and I went ahead and built the
migration that would have created them from scratch, and I made sure
that there was a self.down section to drop them. I wanted to verify
that I could roll back so I figured I would use rake to drop these
pre-existing tables

create a report page with 3 tables involved?
Hi,
I am learning Radrails and want to tie the web project all together by displaying 3 tables linked together.
I want to select one item from the main table, and then link to the other two tables. they will be linked by the key of the first table.
It seems that I should create a rhtml in a main table or should I just copy the list.rhtml created by the generator scaffold?
I might not make any

How to generate mapping with migration

belongs_to and has_many
I know this has been rehashed many times, but I don''t get it.
I can''t find it documented to were I understand all the parts. I can
make this work using Rails database design conventions, but in this case
I am not able to do that.
I find examples, but the ones I find do not follow the conventions.
They also do not give enough information to understand what is going on.

Self-referential join model does not work
I have been trying to model a labeled graph using ActiveRecord (trunk
version). Basically, I have a ''Node'' model which represents a node linking
to other nodes. Links (aka edges) are labeled (i.e., have a ''label''
attribute and other behavior). Thus I decided to model edges as an ''Edge''
model and use a ''has_many :trough''

Migration with foreign key won''t work
Hi all
I use the plugin which supports foreign keys with migrations:
http://wiki.rubyonrails.org/rails/pages/Foreign+Key+Schema+Dumper+Plugin/versions/12
I have created the following migration file:
class AddArtistsTable < ActiveRecord::Migration
def self.up
create_table :artists, :force => true do |t|
t.column :name, :string, :limit => 100
t.column :artist_type_id,

Migration won''t rollback to specific version?
Hi all,
I''m confused about how migrations work. I''ve been using them for a
couple of weeks but haven''t had any serious rollback issues yet. Just
now I added a field to a table with a migration and ran "rake migrate",
which added the field as expected.
This was in the file db/migrate/007_mymigration.rb, making it version 7.
Later I changed my mind and
