how to access lvm inside lvm
I have a centos 5.6 server that has xen domUs installed on their on
logical volumes. These logical volumes contain their own volume groups
and again their own logical volumes. I want to access the domU logical
volumes and tried this:
[root at kr ~]# fdisk -l /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02
Disk /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol02: 274.8 GB, 274877906944 bytes

fc6 guest x server / vnc problems
I''ve succesfully installed FC6 domU under RHEL5-beta2 dom0 with
virt-manager. I could open
a graphical vnc console from virt-manager with no probs and use domU''s
gnome desktop.
After few days of running the guest I''ve updated it with yum and been
using it mostly
via xm console. Now I tried to use the graphical console, but all
virt-manager was telling

mounting images created using dd that contain two partitions
Hi all,
I am trying to mount images that I previously created with dd and the
images have two partitions (swap and LVM). I use these images to house
data for my Xen Guests.
For some reason (possibly Kernel conflicts for paravirtualized
domains) I am unable to boot my Guest images. Failing which I would
like to mount the disk images and atleast get my data out of them.

mounting an lvm partition via a USB adapter
I am trying to mount this (my old hard drive) from my Centos 5 install
as a USB drive so I can copy files over.
I have made the change to max_luns so that I can have more than one
drive on a USB drive.
The first partition, /dev/sda1 mounts automatically as /boot_
The second partition, /dev/sda2 is the one I really want and it is an
lvm partition. When I am booted from this drive (as the

Software RAID + LVM + Grub
I'm playing with software RAID and LVM in some virtual machines and
I've run into an issue that I can't find a good answer to in the docs.
I have the following RAID setup:
md0: sda1 and sdb1, RAID 1. This is /boot
md1: sda2 and sdb2, RAID 1. This is a PV for LVM.
VolGroup00, this is the volume group and md1 is the only PV in it.
LogVol00 is swap
LogVol01 is /
LogVol02 is /home

Re: URGENT: OCFS2 hang - 32 node cluster POC
Run:
# top
# vmstat 1
# iostat -x /dev/emcpowerb 1
The latter two you can save to a file. For top, just monitor cpu usage
and see if any process is hogging all of it.

Installation problems with large mirrored drives
I am trying to install CentOS 4.6 to a pair of 750GB hard drives. I can
successfully install to either of the drives as a single drive, but when
I try to use both drives and mirror the partitions, I start having
problems. Anaconda crashes as it is trying to format the drives.
This is what I'm trying to create:

/dev/md1: 2GB, swap

what''s correct way of shrinking LVM based domU?
Hi all
I want to shrink one of my LVM based domU''s, but don''t quite know how to
do it.
I have searched the Wiki & HOWTO''s, and they all show you how expand /
enlarge a LVM based domU, but not shrinking it.
So, I stopped (destroyed) the domU, and then resized it as follows:
lvresize /dev/data/cpanel1 -L10GB (It was 100GB), but when I a started
it up again, I

Howto install domU CentOS 5 directly on partition
Hi.
I am new to CentOS (Debian user) and I am looking for way how to install
CentOS 5 on domU in the way that I have it directly on dom0 LVM partition.
If I install it with virtual-manager then the installation program takes
that partition as a disk and then creates new partitions on it. I don''t
want it that way because I cannot then mount it from dom0.
Is there some way how to

domUloader kernel command line arguments?
domUloader potentially makes my life a lot easier, but from experiments
and looking at the code, it doesn''t seem like there is any way to pass
kernel command line arguments with it. Am I just missing something?
Thanks,
John Byrne

Apparently no swap configured
Hello,
I'm in a slightly unusual situation and I'd really appreciate some advice.
I installed CentOS 5.2 on a server about a month ago.
Today I happened to check the 'free' command and noticed that the Swap
line reads as follows:
Swap: 0 0 0
I'm pretty certain that when I installed the OS and created a custom
partition table, that I defined a

lomount: handy for file-backed VBDs
Hey all,
This utility (from Qemu) might be useful to anyone who has multiple partitions
on a file-backed VBD and wants occasionally to mount them in dom0.
http://www.dad-answers.com/qemu/utilities/QEMU-HD-Mounter/lomount/
You can tell it what partition to mount out of the file and it sorts out the
offsets, etc. by parsing the partition table. This allows you to get around
the loop

Strange Problem with dm-0
I began an update of one of our servers via yum and, coincidentally or
not, I have been getting the following logged into the message file since:
messages:Jan 7 15:55:51 inet07 kernel: post_create: setxattr failed,
rc=28 (dev=dm-0 ino=280175)
Now, this tells me that dev dm-0 is out of space but, what is dm-0?
So, can anyone tell me what is happening and why?

On loading the OS, when i gave
# xend
it gives the following errors:

domU corrupt after server crash, help needed trying to recover domU LVM

One of our Dell servers has failed badly, and one of the domU's has been
corrupted in the process. It boots up to a point and then gives me a kernel

How do boot a xen domu into run level 1
Hi,
I have a C5.8 machine with several DomU's. I fubared the fstab on one of them
and I need to get it into single user mode.
Does anyone know how to do that? I tried adding single to the extras line
in /etc/xen/machine_name but it still tries to start in level 3.
To make things worse, the root partition is on LVM.
Alternatively, does anyone know how to access the image from DomU? I tried
