mongrel tuning with httperf - suspicious results
Hello all,
I''m attempting to test/tune a mongrel cluster according to the tuning
instructions on the mongrel site (using httperf). Anecdotally, the site
itself ''feels'' snappy, but testing it with httperf reveals what appears to
be terrible throughput. I''m kind of at a loss to describe the results, and
was hoping someone could verify that I''m testing

[PIMP] Topfunky''s httperf PeepCode screencast (Zed A. Shaw)
Hi,
Thanks Zed - this is very interesting. One item in particular caught my
eye: Does anyone on this list have any comments or validation that
Rails 1.2.1 is 2-4 times as slow as Rails 1.1.6? Topfunky provided a
link that purports what looks like really horrible performance and
memory characteristics for Rails 1.2.1, even v. 1.1.6:

[PIMP] Topfunky''s httperf PeepCode screencast
Hey Everyone,
Topfunky (Geoffry) has created a great PeepCode screencast on using
httperf to performance measure your web applications:
http://nubyonrails.topfunky.com/articles/2007/03/05/peepcode-page-caching-and-httperf
http://peepcode.com/products/benchmarking-with-httperf
Topfunky put a ton of work into this and really got it right. The
attention to detail is very good and he researched

testing with httperf...help a noob?
hello there,
ive downloaded and watched the peepcode screencast on httperf. i am now
trying to see how much load my site can handle. quick question, while i
run 1000 connections, while this test is running, and i go surf my site,
is the site response times similar to as if my site is actually having
1000 connections?
also, what does --rate do? does that say for each connection do that
rate?

Security=user half as fast as share. Why?
I'm running Suse 9.2 (kernel 2.6.8-24) with Samba 3.0.20b
When I use security=user, my read/write performance is less than half the
peformance with security=share. Why? There are no other changes, but
performance is never better than half the speed. This happens with WinXP,
Win2K and Win98 clients, so I don't think the client configuration is the
problem. Network is gigabit, with

Problem on glmer
Hi all,
I was trying to fit a Gamma hierarchical model using "glmer", but got weird error message that I could not understand. On the other hand, a similar call to the glmmPQL leads to results that are close to what I expect. I also tried to change tha "nAGQ" argument in "glmer", but it did not solve the problem. The model I was fitting has a simple structure - one

please help me a little
Hi R Users,
I am very frustrated with the following code. Please do me a favor to run it.
after reading into the test data set (I also pasted the data set below), the first line of code for "res_coxphf" did not work and generated the error code below. but the other three line worked well. the second line for "res_coxphf2" should be the same as the first line; I need to run

file locking question
Hi all,
If I have a linux server running samba for filesharing and I use NFS to
make these shares available on another linux server that also runs samba
to share the same shares will the locking still work properly?
I can use this to get around an issue with multiple authentication
domains and I suspect NFS is less chatty than SMB anyway so will mean a
peformance win as well across the WAN.

Exclude
Hi Folks,
I'm running rsync between an NT client and a Solaris 7 Server (Ver 2.4.6).
I'd like to be able to exclude the following directory:
/opt/IBMHTTPDLOG/archivelogs
but retrieve
/opt/IBMHTTPDLOG
My setup is:
rsync -av -p -e rsync@server1.cna.com:/opt/IBMHTTPDLOG/
F:/opt/IBMHTTDLOG
(client)
rsync --daemon --exclude-from=/etc/rsync.exclude
(server)
What I get is

Mongrel performing only half as fast as Apache?
I''m trying to do some initial benchmarking of our setup, mainly just to
establish baselines. I''m essentially using the process Zed outlines in a
previous message:
http://rubyforge.org/pipermail/mongrel-users/2006-May/000200.html
What I''m running into is that Mongrel appears only half as fast as Apache
when serving a small static HTML file. If I then add in Apache with

Question About Rsync on HP-UX

I thought the default behaviour for Rsync was that it would only

ParaGuest cannot see 30GB memory
Hi,
I have buit Xen (32 bit) with PAE and can start multiple Paraguests with 4 gig memory, but cannot launch a single VM with more than 4 gb memory. I would like to launch 1 VM with 30GB or so memory. Are there any config paramters like kernel,/inittrd that need to be changed.
I have the ramdisk set to the initrd I used to boot xen with PAE.
Thanks

PAE mode mismatch in Xen (xen=no Dom0=yes)
Hi,
I just added 32GB memory in my system and wanted Xen to see that memory, so enabled PAE in xen0 and XenU. I did a make menuconfig in xen0 and xenU, then did a make in xen-unstable and a make install.
Whilebooting this kernel, I get the above error PAE mode mismatch. I looked under xen/include/asm-x86/processor.h has #define X86_CR4_PAE defined and so does cpufeature.h have this defined.

I was looking at the aastra 9133i, however I was informed that this phone is
no longer supported. What are good phones around the $100 - $125 price
point? (Need POE)

Does Asterisk support DNIS?
The subject pretty much says it all.
Does Asterisk support DNIS, and if so, what kind of connection is required?
(T1, PRI)
I've got a wink start T1.
I've read comments that say the DNIS will be seen as an extension, but I'm
seeing each digit of the DNIS as a separate extension. So in my case I send
DNIS of 12345, Asterisk will jump from extension 1 to extension 2 to
extension 3 to

Live migration (kvm) not working if any I/O operation is in progress
Hello,
I'd like to know if this is an hypervisor related problem or a libvirt one.
I did this experiment: on VM I started watching a video on youtube.
While video was in progress I started migration.
Migration did not complete until video was not finished.
I did another experiment: I installed a web server on VM.
I then started an httperf stress test.
As before migration did not complete

Cdr_mysql compile question
I'm reading voip-info.org
http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+cdr+mysql
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but:
It says I need mysql and mysql-devel to compile cdr_mysql, but I don't want
mysql on my asterisk box I want to connect to a remote mysql server. Can I
use mysqlclient and mysqlclient-devel?
Thanks,
