Install x86_64 OS with HVM
Hi there. I''m trying to install in Xen-HVM Fedora 9 x86_64. But right away it starts, installer throw error: This kernel requires an x86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. Unable to boot. I''m on x86_64 Linux (Gentoo). x86-HVM works well, but not x86_64. Is it possible to run x86_64 OS in HVM mode in Xen? Maybe some config magic necessary? --

virt-install HVM with url and kickstart?
I have a kickstart file created that works great for installing CentOS on PVM''s and now I want to use it for HVM''s as well. The problem is that when I attempt to run the install, it seems to ignore the kickstart and starts prompting me for all the things I already have specified in the kickstart. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Here is the command im using to get things

Problems with Network Bridge HVM DomU Debian Squeeze running over Kernel 2.6.32-5-xen-amd64 Debian Xen 4
Hello community! I need help with a problem I haven''t been solved with the network team. I manage a network that has over a thousand computers, and the most of the servers are virtualized over Debian / Xen by me. The specific issue arises when I try to set up a DomU HVM running Debian Squeeze, the VM doesn''''t recognize the network but it runs. It gives an error

HVM or PV
Hi All, Sorry if this is a stupid question. I am walking into someone else''s xen install, and don''t have access to the host os at the moment. How do I tell just from a domU (with Ubuntu) if it is PV or HVM. I have looked through the forums and documentation and it seems to be very easy to figure this out from dom0, but unfortunately that isn''t possible at the

Any luck with SLES9 HVM install?
Anyone managed to get a SLES9-SP4 HVM installed? I''ve been going round in circles for hours with this one. What I''ve found out: 1 - I can''t install from an emulated cdrom. The installer does boot from the cdrom, but later gives up, saying that it can''t find the install CD. I''ve done all sorts of messing around with virsh and the qemu monitor, but

RE: Installing Redhat 7,3 with hvm
Not yet, but I don''t see any reason for it to work any differently. I simply used vmware because it was convenient. -Adam | -----Original Message----- | From: Simon Gao [mailto:gao@schrodinger.com] | Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2006 11:22 AM | To: Adam Crews -X (acrews - Xerox at Cisco) | Cc: xen-users@lists.xensource.com; Mike Freemon | Subject: Re: [Xen-users]

How to change Xen''s HVM windows client to bootup and install with default vga display resolution of 800x600 instead of 640x480?
Hi, I was wondering if there is a variable in HVM configuration file to set the default vga display size for a windows guest? Or if anyone knows the location in the qemu or the cirrus vga bios code where I can make this change to set the default display size. Thank you for your help and time, -Yung _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list

ACPI fixed event or General Purpose Event to HVM guest.
Has there been any work done on getting an ACPI fixed event or perhaps a general purpose event delivered to an HVM guest. Whereby, the HVM guests OSPM could consume the event and act accordingly. Or Perhaps better stated how would one go about passing an ACPI fixed event or general purpose event that was raised and consumed by dom0 and subsequently pass the event on to each of the HVM

[PATCH][IOEMU] Fix to Allow blktap to be able to be booted as system volume for PV-on-HVM.
Hi All, I sent the patch to allow blktap to be able to booted as system bolume for PV-on-HVM. However, there was a problem that hdN and xvdN were not able to be specified at the same time. I made the patch to correct it as follows. - Whether hdN is defined first is checked. - If hdN is defined, xvdN is not replaced with hdN. Signed-off-by: Takanori Kasai <kasai.takanori@jp.fujitsu.com>

RE: Installing Redhat 7,3 with hvm
If anyone is still interested in this old thread, I have a rh7.3 image running under hvm. It''s a hack, but here''s what I did: Install rh7.3 in a vmware machine with vmware server. Booted off a live cd, ( I used a gentoo installer CD, but any live cd should work) Created a lvm volume on my Xen dom0 >From the liveCD, I use dd to copy the disk image to the lvm image (dd

Re: [Xen‑users] Should I use HVM?
Your decision on what platform to go with depends on your requirements of course. Some observations from my end: Running a non-HVM platform limits you currently to OS where the OS itself has been para-virtualized. An HVM-enabled platform enables your future for changes that you may not have planned for at this time. Also, keep in mind that as you look at the management tools available for

HVM Linux just installed but does not do its first boot
Just successfully installed SLES9.3-32bit as file-backended HVM domU. Everything went OK, the distributive partitioned its "harddisk" into root and swap OK, have its grub installed into sda boot sector, but I could not make to boot no one single first time after installation. Every domU boot gives the following screen for a short time and dies: Booting from Hard Disk... Boot from
