[BUG] worker stopping abruptly
I have been facing this damn ugly issue since quite sometime.
So this worker reads RSS feed from Yahoo news and stores it in a DB.
The worker is scheduled to run at every 40 minutes and my
background_schedules.yml looks like this:
feed_worker:
:class: :feed_worker
:job_key: :feed_worker_key
:worker_method: :do_work
:trigger_args:
:start: <%= Time.now + 5 %>

Call for examples
He folks-
First off thanks to everyone for helping to make this plugin work
better for all of us. Its nice to have a bunch of people testing and
adding features. I would like to ask for people to post some examples
workers. I would really like to get a few more workers to distribute
with the plugin. Especially ones that a lot of people seem to need
like Email workers. So if you are

Backgroundrb and timeout connections
Hi
We have a RoR application which needs to get the contents of RSS feeds.
The application opens HTTP connections, but the problem is that we have
frequently Timeout::Error because of feeds are not available. It seems
it''not possible to reduce the time of timeout in Ruby... So, I''m
wondering if there is way to solve this with Backgroundrb.
Best regards,

Using ez_where
Hi All,
I am trying to pass values to ez_where to construct my conditions. I
need
to know how the params need to be formated for ez_where.
My search class looks like this:
def search
@display_ad = DisplayAd.new(params[:display_ad])
cond = Caboose::EZ::Condition.new do
pub_date == ''@display_ad.pub_date''

form_for not working with Markaby
I''m playing around with Markaby and I decided to write a little blog app.
I''m running into issues with forms however. If I use form_for the output of
the form gets swallowed. For example:
form_for :article, @article do |f|
f.text_field :title
f.check_box :published
f.text_area :description
f.text_field :pub_date
f.text_area :content
end
gets rendered as an empty form

How to handle dynamically columned tables in rails
I want to build an application that lets me (the end user accessing a
web page) design a simple list with columns and add records. E.g., if
the end user says I want a table that has a list of songs, he can create
a list (title, date, artist, label) and then make another list of, e.g.,
books on his bookshelf with the necessary columns (title, author,
pub_date, shelf).
The end user

Question on number of processes engendered by BDRb
I have two workers (ie two files in my RAILS_ROOT/lib/workers directory) on
my Rails app. When I run a top on my box, I see *three* processes called
packer_worker_r. Shouldn''t I just be having two? What is the third process
for?
Here is an extract of the output from my top command. The PIDs are 7084,
7085 and 7083.

Couple questions on BDRb and concurrent processing
My Rails site uses BackgroundDRb and I have a couple of questions:
1. Can someone point me to some sample code/examples for how to use
thread_pool? The website doc says to add a line
======
pool_size 10
======
in my Worker class which seems straightforward.
I wasn''t able to understand this part though:
=========
thread_pool.defer(wiki_scrap_url) { |wiki_url| scrap_wikipedia(wiki_url) }

Stopping bdrb from another process gets the process killed
Hi, I''ve been having some issues integrating bdrb on a cruisecontrolrb
server
It''s related to the way we stop the bdrb server. The thing is, right now
when we stop the process we are killing the parent of the group of the
process. This is ok if you''re running script/backgroundrb stop directly from
the console, but if I''m running this from another process,

BDRB, new version questions
Hi,
we are trying to use BDRB for background processing of long-running
reports, and have two issues - one is that worker does not see our
Report class from Rails, throws a:

extending bdrb / running multiple servers
Hi,
Thanks for the help getting the new backgroundrb working, things are
working fabulously now.
I have two questions:
1) I have a few basic methods I need available on all my workers in
order to communicate properly with my application... it seems to make
the most sense right now to subclass BackgrounDRb::MetaWorker, or make
a mixin module, because I''m actually extending some

schedule support on latest svn, a question
I''m running the latest backgroundrb mainly for scheduled tasks support.
As per the documentation I created the backgroundrb_schedules.yml with
the following:

:class: :document_sorter_worker
:worker_method: :do_work
:job: :bleh
:trigger_args:
:start: <%= Time.now + 5.seconds %>
:end: <%= Time.now + 10.minutes

background worker just stops running after some time
Hi,
I am fairly new to ruby/rails, but I thought I did a fair job of setting up
my background worker, but after some time, maybe 4-5 hours of running, it
just stops running, without any messages. Here is the yml file:
backgroundrb.yml

:port: 2000
:rails_env: production
:host: localhost
here is my schedules file:

Upper limit to number of jobs queued by BDRb?
I use BDRb to process RSS feeds for users on my site (http://feedflix.com).
I have a batch job that queries the DB for records that haven''t been updated
in the last so many hours and kicks off a background job for each of them.
If N records are returned by the DB, N background jobs gets queued and get
done serially. As long as N is 255 or under, everything works like a charm.

A newbie question regarding BackgroundRb
Hi all,
I just read Ezra''s article on BackgroundRb and decided to use it one
of my projects. I installed the plugin into my rails project using
script/plugin and then ran rake backgroundrb:setup to copy the yml
scripts.
Now my backgroundrb.yml looks like

backgroundrb launches concurrent instances of same job
Hi there,
Backgroundrb is working pretty well for me but I have a job that launches
two of the same job, apparently a minute(?) apart from each other. Should
this be happening if I have repeat interval enabled with a job_key? It
seems like it should wait until the job is finished before launching a new
instance.

right usage of bdrb
Hi,
i''m going to implement a syndication-service, which will get lists in
xml with some meta-data an enclosed video files, which will get encoded
at the end. The syndication run will be startet every five minutes of
a full hour.
So i thought to build 4 Worker. One for checking which feeds to
syndicate (syndication_worker) at a specific time, one for processing
the list

I need some guidance
I''m building an http communicator class for a web service API wrapper and
I''m trying to go through the BDD process in doing so. I''m having a bit of a

backgroundrb / actionmailer / sendmail
Hello,
I''m trying to send emails from a backgroundrb worker and the email doesn''t
send. I get no log messages in the sendmail log or the system log, nothing
in the backgroundrb logs at all, nothing in the production log.
Below is my code for each component
