domUs dropping off the network (Xen 3.0.2)
Hello, We''ve recently started seeing several domUs on multiple machines losing all network connectivity. At least one of these machines (since they are customer machines I can''t verify it for all of them) give the error: $ sudo ifup eth0 eth0: full queue wasn''t stopped! About the only Google hit for this message is:

ping times and packet losses
Hi folks, we do have a phenomenon that is not easy to get a hold onto. We are running Debian Sarge stable domUs and NetBSD domUs on Debian Sarge stable dom0. Xen is 2.07, compiled from the sources (with only slight modifications for using more of iptables). Our domUs experience extreme slow downs in network connectivitiy once or twice a day. That means: ping times go up to 1.200 ms (to hosts

I expect some hiccups with that if domUs start using other than log-dirty

Xen from backports on sarge not working
Hi, I've downloaded and installed the Xen packages from backports.org in a box with sarge, and it doesn't work. That's the short story. Now the long one :-) The problem is that I can't bring up the domUs. This is the error displayed when I try: ~# xm create -c chen.cfg Using config file "/etc/xen/chen.cfg". Error: Device 0 (vif) could not be connected. Hotplug

Installing R in Ubuntu
Hello, I am new to Ubuntu (Linux in general) and I am trying to install R: so far, I am stuck. I have followed the instructions at the CRAN website with little luck. I read an exchange about the same issue posted before, but did not give me enough information to solve things by myself, hence, this email. Based on the former exchange I read, I am trying to include enough information to see if

SLES10SP2 (xen 3.2.x) vs SLES11 (xen 3.4.x)
I built a couple new servers on SLES11 because I needed to use USB. Since SLES11 has xen 3.4 packages that seemed like the way to go. I''m questioning the stability of the two new servers compared to my SLES10SP2 servers. I''m also questioning the performance of Windows domUs. On Thanksgiving day one of my SLES11 servers running 7-8 domUs crashed and restarted three times. Being

New Ubuntu Breezy and Dapper APT repository - stop using sourceforge!
Greetings folks, Since the sourceforge apt repository is woefully limited to just one distribution version, and because it is exceedingly slow and times out a lot, budgetdedicated.com has graciously donated us a blazing fast server to host the fresh Ubuntu packages. To use the APT repository, simply edit 'sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list' and then add the following lines, depending on

Pinging DomU from DomU
Hi, I am running Xen 3.0.2 in bridged networking on RHEL4. Everything seems to be working nicely, apart from a worrying issue. I can ping from Dom0 -> DomUs okay. I can ping from DomUs -> Dom0 okay. HOWEVER. I cannot ping DomU -> DomU. --- # ping xxx.xxx.xxx.248 Do you want to ping broadcast? Then -b --- Even when I try with the -b switch, I get no joy. Thoughts? TIA! Y.

My Xen 3.0.2 problems
I''d like to document some problems that I''ve run into with Xen 3.0.2. My dom0 is running Ubuntu 6.0.6 TS (dapper), and I''m using udev. 1. Every time I reboot the server, I must re-run install.sh from the Xen tarball, otherwise xend will not start. 2. I must then start xend manually (based on #1). Only after then restarting xend, will ''peth0'' be

Timestamp issues
Hi folks, I got a fileserver with debian sarge which is being held up to date as good as I can. I got a machine with two harddrives. One holds kubuntu dapper and one holds winxp. And then there's more machines but they don't matter at the moment. On the filserver there's a share _images_ that has a force user/group _images_ constraint. Therefore when I save an image to that share

Bug#376494: xen-utils-3.0: Bashisms in /etc/xen/scripts/* make Xen unable to run domUs
Package: xen-utils-3.0 Version: 3.0.2+hg9681-0bpo1 Severity: important Disclaimer: I'm using the packages from www.backports.org here (in the box where the problem manifested), but I've seen that it happens too with the packages straight from sid. When I installed the packages for Xen and created a domU ("chen.cfg"), it couldn't be brougth up. The error that was displayed

Centos 5.5 mmap.c and mmap hints
Good morning, We are trying to figure out how to properly provide adresss hints to mmap on 32-bit Centos 5.5. Does any documentation exist about to how to provide address hints to mmap on 32-bit Centos 5.5? If so, where can we find this documentation. In order to understand mmap better, we decided to try to find the Centos 5.5 source code for mmap.c. We already installed the kernel source

Hi all, I setting up a new BDC (192.168.2.200 -> ubuntu dapper) assisting a PDC(192.168.1.195 -> debian sarge) to manage MYDOMAIN a separate Building. The problem I come up with is trying to apply printer drivers, I can upload the driver to \\BDC\print$ but when I apply the driver it returns "Printer setting could not be saved. Access is denied" Any Ideas? Wisu smb.conf -->

Ubuntu Dapper packages
Hi all, Daniele Favara was kind enough to package Xapian (and Pinot :-) for Dapper and Xubuntu. I understand Daniele used cdbs to build these packages. http://packages.debian.org/unstable/devel/cdbs I am not sure if the differences with the official packages built for Debian and Breezy are significant... Anyway, if you would like to give them a go, add the following to your sources.list : deb

XEN 3.0.1: domUs become zombies after shutdown with "unregister_netdevice: waiting for vifX.0 to become free. Usage count = n"
Hello guys I have the following problem with xen 3.0.1 compiled from sources on Debian Sarge, kernel 2.6.12.6 which can be easily reproduced at least on my installation: after I log in to domU console or via ssh and run "shutdown" I get deadlocked network interface with error message: unregister_netdevice: waiting for vifX.0 to become free. Questions about pass through block devices
What happens to the block layer if the block request queue gets very, very long? Imagine there are many DomUs and they are all working against VERY SLOW disks. I wish I understood the entire chain better, and I''m sorry to ask such a vague question. I understand this is a weird question, because the performance implications of this scenario are horrific. The reason I ask is that
