Removing LVM
I have a CentOS 5 machine in which I'm trying to remove lvm. I dd'ed the file system to another partition, then dd'ed it back overwriting the lvm partition. I then modified menu.lst and fstab and replaced the paths to point to the correct device. When the system boots it's still looking for lvm. I can restore the system back to where it was with lvm, but I'm not sure what

passthrough PCI SCSI device
I have a sles10sp3 vm that I''m trying to passthrough a scsi card, which has a DLT tape drive attached. Anyone doing anything similar? When I passthrough the scsi card (forced to do both ports), the vm dies when it loads, I think during udev. I''m viewing the vm through virt-manager, so I can''t scroll up and see what everything says. Is there a way to get the text xm

Kernel Panic!
Hey all, Long time user of Centos, I really love what you guys are doing here. I have a farm of 50 Centos 4.1 machines. (originally 4.0 updated with yum up to current 4.1). Ever since I updated to the 2.6.9-11 kernel I am getting a lot of kernel panics. 7 machines suffered kernel panics over the weekend. Funny that they were the only ones that are booted into the new kernel! The rest

mkinitrd-4.2.1.3-1 unsuitable for 2.6.13+ kernels?
Hi all, I have a Opteron-machine with the MPT SCSI-controller (Symbios 53c1030). At least in i386-mode, mkinitrd does not seem to build a usable initrd for 2.6.13.x (.3 tested) with this kernel. With 2.6.12.6 it works fine. I have not tested this in x86_64 -mode yet. The symptom is that mptbase and mptscsih load, but mptscsih does not discover any controllers nor drives, and things like

host crashes "unable to handle paging request"
Hi, we have regular crashed of a kvm host with the error "unable to handle paging request". Can this be due to memory over-commitment even if some memory is still used by the kernel for caches and buffers? (collectd graph shows no free memory, with 15G used, very little buffers, and 1G cache). There are 32GB of swap, of which only 150MB are used. I suspect might be the direction to

invalid opcode on Dom0
We have a (supposedly) quite standard setup: 2 Dom0 with drbd-on-lvm and a bunch of DomU, on Quad Xeon Dell servers. We tried with both sid-based and etch-based (+ 3.1 xen hypervisor and drbd 8 from backports.org ) Dom0, and quite consistently have "kernel: invalid opcode: 0000 [1] SMP" errors which freezes Dom0 (during lasts tests a simple start-and-stop loop of 10 DomU can trigger

Is samba or a kernel bug causing my FC4 server to crash?
I've got a fully updated Fedora Core 4 server crashing hard every week or two. I use Samba via smbmount and autofs to read & delete log files on 17 XP boxs and 6 NT4SP6 boxes as well as a couple other Windows files servers every 5 minutes. The first indication of a problem I get is smbmount stops working, then the server becomes unresponsive to the point where only a power slam will fix
