Difficulties in trying to do a mixed effects model using the lmer function
Dear people of the help list
I am drying to analyze my data using the 'lmer' function and I keep having problems.
This is the model:

I analyse tree size (dbh) of 3 different species (spec) and 3 planting schemes (scheme). I have 5 plots, which I hope to model as a random factor. (However, the subsequent output is based on

OpenIPMI on a SunFire v20z
Hi all,
New to the list and (mostly) new to CentOS. We have just moved from
running RHEL to CentOS on our main production servers.
Anyway, I am configuring a couple of new SunFire v20z servers here at
the moment and trying to get the systems' management interfaces to work
fully under CentOS.
First issue was trying to install the openipmi RPM from the CD that came
with the SunFires, this RPM

improve meta data performance
We have a SunFire X4500 running Solaris 10U5 which does about 5-8k nfs ops
of which about 90% are meta data. In hind sight it would have been
significantly better to use a mirrored configuration but we opted for 4 x
(9+2) raidz2 at the time. We can not take the downtime necessary to change
the zpool configuration.
We need to improve the meta data performance with little to no money. Does

re: HA Storage
Greetings,
on this matter, Sunfire x4150 a 1U machine with 2xcpu sockets, "eight"
drive bays, 64 GB expandability, 4 NIC packs quite a punch for its
size.
I don't think I've ever seen such power in such a small package

Mapping sas address to physical disk in enclosure
Hi, we have SunFire X4140 connected to Dell MD1220 SAS enclosure,
single path, MPxIO disabled, via LSI SAS9200-8e HBA. Disks are visible
with sas-addresses such as this in "zpool status" output:

chaining support
Hi,
An issue that's been cropping up recently is chaining support. We
discussed this a bit at FOMS 2008, and there are some open issues.
There was talk of making some skeleton-like metadata that spans chain
boundaries (or perhaps putting into skeleton a "chain identifier").
Other things that need to be specced out:
* edits vs. playlists: how to distinguish between chains that have

lm_sensors on Sun (x86) Hardware
Hey folks,
I'm running RHEL 5.3 on 6 boxes - and on every one of them
sensors-detect finds nothing.
5 of them are Sun fire 2250 machines, and 1 is Sunfire 4170.
Googling and searching this list does not seem to find anything.
When I log into the Sun hardware management interface (web interface)
I see that it of course is correctly detecting various temperatures of
things. But for some

NFS Performance
Hi,
With help from Oleg we got the right patches applied and NFS working
well. Maximum performance was about 60 MB/sec. Last week that dropped
to about 12.5 MB/sec and I cannot find a reason. Lustre clients all
obtain 100+ MB/sec on GigE. Each OST is good for 270 MB/sec. When
mounting the client on one of the OSSs I get 230 MB/sec. Seems the
speed is there. How can NFS and Lustre be tuned

Multithreading
Hi !
I wonder if the R application is capable of utilizing more than one CPU. I
need to know since we run it on a SunFire 3800 with 8 750 USIII cpu:s and on
a E420R with 4 USII cpu:s and we don't feel like we get the performance we
could expect.
I've seen some old discussions claiming that it isn't.
With kind regards

Echo and static on PRI with errors.
Hi there,
I'm having some fairly serious asterisk problems, which seem to be spread
quite liberally across all asterisk versions, I've tried 1.4.2, 1.6.0.10,
1.6.2beta4 and still had exactly the same problem with static and echo on
the line when using the PRI interface.

aaccli on recent conrollers?
I have just built a new SunFire X4100 server with an Adaptec 2230SLP
RAID card using FreeBSD 6.2-PRE kernel (from September 20).
Everything is working extremely well except I cannot run the aaccli
utility on this controller. When I try to open the controller, it
gives this error:
Command Error: <The current AFAAPI.DLL is too old to work with the
current controller software.>

Experiencing kernel panic with SSH + LVM + Xen + significant amounts of data
Hi all,
I''m running into a kernel panic with Xen, under fairly specific
circumstances. I''ll post it here first, and follow up on xen-devel if
it looks like it''s a Xen bug.
After some experimentation, it seems like the panic occurs under the
following circumstances:
1) A significant amount of data is being moved
2) ...Onto (or off of?) an LVM partition

unusual challenges speccing external software
This is something I''ve come up against twice. First, I have an
interactive editor which calls vi, emacs, or TextMate (etc.) via Unix,
and then loads the file handed to the editor back into IRB after it''s
edited and saved. I guess that makes it a special case of a more
general question, which is how do you spec external processes, with a
slightly more complicated version of the
