pci passthrough question. Do I need VT-D ?
Hi,
I really need help. I spent 2 days already on this pci passthrough thing.
I''m using Xen 3.2.1 with Centos 5.2 64 bits on intel VT. I''d like to
use PCI passthrough and I don''t think I need VT-D functionality.
I''m trying to pass PCI 12:01.0 to my domU guest.
I got this error when I use "xm create /etc/xen/hvm_centos_2.cfg"
Using config file

Need some clarifications regarding VT-d requirements for PCI passthrough in Xen 4.1
Hello,
I am looking into building a workstation using Xen to host several operating
systems.
Looking at the pci passthrough requirements of Xen4.1 on the

little puzzled with the fact that only Intel Core2Duo (with

PCI passthrough to a HVM *without* VT-d ?
I have a system whose cpu can run a hvm. I have some PCI devices that
I would like to be able to pass through straight to the domU
Specifically, I want to pass through a device to a Windows VM.
No, I explicitly do _not_ have a system with Intel''s VT-d technology.
In an ideal world, I would be able to pass the graphics and some
arbitrary non-graphics PCI cards direct to the DomU.

stubdom and VT-d passthrough? CPUID?
Hi all,
I recently upgraded my Xen 3.2.1 to 3.3.1 on Centos 5.2. Everything seems to have gone pretty smoothly except I have a few issues. My system specs are:
4GB RAM
Q6600 quad core Intel CPU
P5E-VM DO Q35 Intel mobo (VT-d enabled)
Skystar2 DVB PCI card passed through to HVM DomU
HVM Windows XP SP3 DomU
1. When I restart my DomU, it shuts down and turns into Domain-Unnamed but

Error: failed to assign device...VT-d isn''t enabled properly(?)
Dear List,
I need to make an Aladdin eToken Pro visible in a Linux guest HVM, but
I cannot assign the device to any domU, while it''s being blocked by
the dom0.
To avoid this trouble I would like to pass the whole USB bus to the
domU directly, via PCI passthrough.
Now I use xen 3.3.0 from xensource and xen kernel from Ubuntu 8.04
2.6.24-19-xen, because the xensource xen kernel

VT-x and frontend/backend drivers
Hello,
As I saw in this mailing list, there should be some
emulation solution for drivers when using VT-x processors.
See for example :
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2005-12/msg00763.html
My question is this;
As I understand, the VMX support in the new VT-x processors
enables us to prevent Guest OSs from performing
unwanted instructions (HLT , for example). This

UPDATE:
This bug does not reproduce in version: 4.1.4-3 since the domU creation is shadowed by another new bug [1].
Below is my hypervisor log or "xm dmesg" output since the 706543 bug also affects my system:

pci passthrough under xen-3.3 without VT-d
Hi all!
I''m hoping someone here might be able to help. I''m familiar with several UNIX''es, though farily new to Linux...
I''m running RHEL 5.2. I''ve got the RHEL kernel headers installed, etc, and compiled xen-3.3.
Once that was built, I rebuilt libvirt, etc, the kernel, and all the modules. The whole mess boots and runs fine... mostly.

PCI passthrough troubles
Hello,
I have been struggling as of late to successfully configure a pci
passthrough using libvirt with kvm. Hoping someone can shed some light on
the problem. Overall my experience with virtualization limited is so please
forgive. The guest runs fine till passthrough is configured. I am using
virt-manager. This has been tried on both a Fedora17 x86_64 and Arch Linux

pci-passthrough nic but no link
I hope someone can enlighten me.
I have a quad-port Intel 82580 nic (igb driver) on my system and I''d like to
dedicate each nic to a HVM via VT-d PCI passthrough. The IOMMU on my system
seems to work, I can assign the PCI devices to my HVMs. The HVMs see the
pci device and load their respective igb drivers, and ethtool -i eth0 works
on each HVM, shows the drivers are loaded and the

Request for help with pci passthrough with VTd on Debian Jessie
Hi,
I am having great difficulties in getting pci passthrough with VTd to
work, surely I am doing something stupid but I cannot see what.
"tangram" (https://www.blogger.com/profile/06588030231546523539) has
been a huge help, but despite his efforts I am still stuck.

PCI Passthrough using GART on AMD CPUs?
Hey everyone,
I realize that people asking about PCI passthrough has been thoroughly beaten to
death many a time, however I couldn''t find the answer to these questions
anywhere (and I''d really like to know :P) so please just bare with me.
I know the GART built into AMD chipsets can act as a "mini IOMMU" and do DMA
translation but not protection/isolation. However,

10 GbE PCI passthrough
Dear all,
we are trying to get our virtual machines to work performant with our 10
GbE cards (lspci says: NetXen Incorporated NX3031 Multifunction
1/10-Gigabit Server Adapter (rev 42)).
When doing some benchmarks it was noticed that especially on the
receiving side, the virtualization layer hits a significant performance
impact and therefore we went for a PCI passthrough, so that the VMs can

Questions about PCI passthrough in Xen
Hi:
I am trying to understand the current pass-through device in Xen. To
my understanding, Xen can hide a PCI device from Dom 0 and exclusively
assign it to a guest OS (dom U), right?
Does Xen support to assign one device to multiple guest OSes? Does
current pass through require Intel -VT or AMD SVM? Where is the source
file for the pass-through function? Is it in xen/drivers/passthrough?

VT or paravirtualization?
Hello,
What is the better solution now to run linux domUs under Xen3?
Using a VT hardware, sould I install a xen-patched kernel as I would
where no VT extension, or use an unmodified linux guest system?
Is there any performance difference between a Pentium D 3 Ghz with vt
(9xx) and without it (8xx)?
Regards,
Slapic

PVonHVM and PCI passthrough
Hi,
I was wondering if it is possible to passthrough to a HVM guest a PCI
without IOMMU support using
PV on HVM drivers in the guest. While trying creating the domain I
received the following message:
Error: failed to assign device: maybe the platform doesn''t support
VT-d, or VT-d isn''t enabled properly?
Is there any technical reason why this is impossible, or it just
