Four Days with Rails Issue
Hi, I''m trying to get through the popular "Four Days with Rails" tutorial and am experiencing some problem with the "Priority" of the item. Right from the start, RoR seems to want to consider it as a value that must be boolean. The scaffolded code asks for "True/ False" as the input. PHPMyAdmin shows that the database thinks it should be an unsigned

Four Days on Rails
I''ve been reading the tutorial and I have problems with the TinyInt(1) for the attribute "item.done". I thought this thread would be the best to post it. I''m using Rails 1.1.14. When in the partial template _list_stripes appears: <%= list_stripes["done"] == 1 ? show_image("done_ico.gif") : " " %> it always returns the

Converting mysql to postgres
Hi, Anyone got any cool tricks for converting a Rails site (in this case, a typo installation) from a mysql database to a postgresql database? I''ve got it almost working -- I''m doing a SQL dump from mysql and loading it into postgres. However, mysql does booleans as a tinyint with 0 = false and 1 = true. When I try to import that into a postgres database that expects booleans

Beginner: How to use data from external Database
Hi, im new to RoR so sorry if the questions sounds stupid to you. Im trying to build a tool for a browsergame. The game allows access to its database and the db looks like this: table villages: `id` int(9) unsigned NOT NULL default ''0'', `x` smallint(3) NOT NULL default ''0'', `y` smallint(3) NOT NULL default ''0'', `tid` tinyint(1)

tinyint(1) and boolean
So i had a boolean attribute in my model which gets interpreted to tinyint(1) in mysql by rails migrations. Now tinyint(1) accepts a range in mysql and i want to change my boolean attribute to an attribute which can accept 3 values(0,1,2). I made the change to the view and when i post the form selecting the selecting the value ''2'', it still gets saved as a ''0''.

radio_button method does not recognize int values?
So the api listing says that radio_button(object, method, tag_value, options = {}) gives a radio button tag, and if object.method == tag_value, then the button will be checked. I verified the method behaves correctly for attributes of type string. However, if the attribute is of type int, it doesn''t make the button checked. Does anyone have some information before I file a bug? Some

Reading floating points into a field stored as Integers
Hi, I''m trying to follow the "AWDR" example of storing certain types of numbers (in my case, percentages not money) as integers in the database. I understand from the Depot application how to format the output to have 2 places (or n places for that matter) decimal. Now, I"m wondering about the input. It''s more natural for people to enter numbers as

Boolean quoting, postgresql
http://dev.rubyonrails.org/ticket/1117 I''ve attached a patch to ticket 1117 which fixes it so that booleans are escaped as booleans, not integers. Specifically, this situation will now work find_all(["send_date=? and sent=?", Date.today, false]) Which matches peoples expectations, but it causes some problems with the postgresql unit tests. Specifically, the use of

Render nothing; go nowhere
I am building an application that requires a C++ program to access the Rails web application using POST. Now, I just added user authentication to the mix and it has made things more interesting. I''m using basic authentication as shown in the AWDWR and Rails Recipes books. I can now get my C++ program to submit the user credentials to the login/login page. All I want the login page

Understanding Common Views
Hi Everyone, I''m trying to formulate my thoughts on how views work in RoR and I understand the basic bits - 1. Every controller has its own view defined using rhtml files in the views/[controller_name] folder. 2. There is one "view" file (rhtml) for every in the controller and has the same name as the method. 3. For portions that are common, partials can be used - file

Next/ Previous record
Hi, Quick question (which means that I think there should be an easy answer)... When I am in the "show" view, I''d like to add 2 links, one for previous and one for next record so that the user can go on to the next "result" without having to go back to the ''list'' of results. However, I can''t find my way about this problem :-S

encoding from 22050Hz source

ActiveRBAC?
How''s the experience with using ActiveRBAC? For my "next 4 days with rails" :P I''d like to consider adding Role-based access to the To-Do List application in the original "four days w/ rails" tutorial. Just wondering if ActiveRBAC would be a good place to start? Thanks! For those who are wondering: https://activerbac.turingstudio.com/trac Cheers Mohit.

A little problem handling logicals in RMySQL under R1.6.1
There is a little problem in handling logicals in RMySQL: # here is the MySQL connection > con <MySQLConnection:(1816,0)> # here is the data frame > print(a<-data.frame(x=c(TRUE,FALSE),y=c(FALSE,TRUE))) x y 1 TRUE FALSE 2 FALSE TRUE # as promised, the two data frame columns are identified as logicals and # the field types are set to tinyint > field.types <-

InstantRails - command "rails" does not work
Hey, I installed InstantRails 1.7 (on Windows XP Home). I unzipped it with 7-Zip in D:\InstantRails (no spaces in pathname + short pathname) to avoid UnZip-problems. I followed the installation instructions. The cookbook-example works fine. But when I want to create an own project with "rails projectname", my computer says something like "The command "rails" is either
