RFC: making the xen startup integrate better with distros
What follows below is an outline of what we''re changing in Xen startup for Fedora 8. I know historically when getting into initscripts you tend to hit distro specific issues. So I''m posting this to see if there''s any interest from others in having these changes integrated upstream. I''d like to thing that with a few minor tweaks this is general enough to be

Disjointness between samba and distros?
Most major distros compile samba with out the ability to do AD DC (Ubutum, Fedora, Suse) I'm not against compiling or going with a non major distro like Zentyal but why do most major distros hold back from compiling samba with AD DC support? (speculation is mostly what I'm looking for) Fedora's documentation since samba 4.0 has stated "We'll provide Samba AD DC functionality

"Cannot execute binary file" with several distros
Lately I've been finding that most versions of Syslinux no longer work in the various linux distros I use them in (primarily Mandriva 2006 and Finnix.) When I try to run binaries such as the extlinux it produces the error "bash: ./extlinux/extlinux: cannot execute binary file" which it says for each of the major binaries. As nearly as I can tell, everything but the scripts in fact.

Installing Damn Small Linux and R
Installing Damn Small Linux and R Following my experiences with Knoppix (described in another mail) I did similar test on Damn Small Linux (dsl -http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/ ). DSL was interesting, because it is the smallest yet fully functional version of Linux, hence more suited to older and smaller computers than Knoppix. Importantly, it uses lightweight windowing system (no KDE or GNOME) so

3.62-pre16: Compiling on old (2.4 kernel) distros
I have put a compile hack in for older distros and pushed it out as syslinux-3.62-pre16; for those who have reported compilation problem on older distros I would greatly appreciate if you could confirm if it works now (it worked for me on a CentOS 3.9 VM.) -hpa
