Centos Dom0 kernel panic on boot
hello,
I am attempting to compile a Dom0 CentOS 5.2 guest from source, using
XenLinux 2.6.18.8 with a Xen 3.2.1 hypervisor. I am able to compile the
Dom0 kernel, but when I attempt to boot into it, I receive the following
messages:
mount: could not find filesystem ''/dev/root''
setuproot: moving /dev failed: No such file or directory
setuproot: error mounting /proc: No such

Ctrl+C does not work in virtual console
Hi all,
I have a problem with the virtual console. I run Xen 3.0.1 (compiled
from the sources) on debian 3.1 (as dom0 and domU) on an AMD Athlon 64.
I can''t terminate programs with ctrl+c. If I try for example to ping a
machine, ping runs forever and cannot be stopped from the console.
ctrl+z does then not work either. But if I do the same with ssh,
everything works fine. There are

Xen 3.1.0 initrd and kernel building
Hi, had a few problems with using xen:
First:
built a xen from source (tgz) and make dist ... then made initrd with
mkinitrd and modules=all in the
mkinitrd.conf -> initrd.img was 14mb and set it up in the grub with
module /initrd....
on boot it loads the initrd like:
Loading ramdisk into ram .... done
but then NO MODULES in the initrd are being loaded by the kernel, though
initrd

booting erro on FC3
I''m a newbie. :)
I followed the steps written by Jerone Young:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=10562241
but i found an error at the 17th step:
17. mkinitrd /boot/initrd-2.6.10-xen0.img 2.6.10-xen0
it said:"No module ata_piix found for kernel 2.6.10-xen0, aborting."
so I commented the line of "module /boot/initrd-2.6.10-xen0.img" in the

mkinitrd-4.2.1.3-1 unsuitable for 2.6.13+ kernels?
Hi all,
I have a Opteron-machine with the MPT SCSI-controller (Symbios 53c1030).
At least in i386-mode, mkinitrd does not seem to build a usable initrd
for 2.6.13.x (.3 tested) with this kernel. With 2.6.12.6 it works fine.
I have not tested this in x86_64 -mode yet.
The symptom is that mptbase and mptscsih load, but mptscsih does not
discover any controllers nor drives, and things like

[PATCH 0/12] Add S3 support to Xen
Hi, all,
Attached patch set is the first support to S3 (suspend to ram)
on
Xen environment. We know that 3.0.5 is feature freeze now, and thus
this version is just for trial and review first.
X86-64 is to go (failed to compile), but we have a preliminary
support in house which is however on an old version and not very
stable yet. It''s supposed to be out with next version.

Hot swapping sata drives
I have a two external USB drives only 1 is connected to centos 5.1 at a
time.
the USB drive is SLOW compared to SATA.
The external drive suppots both connections USB and SATA.
I bought a little $5 external SATA connector that goes into the
PCI slot area (does not actually take a PCI slot just the backpanel)
and just plugs back into one of the available SATA
ports on the motherboard.
When I

sata drives and controlers
I intend to replace fading SCSI drive by a SATA one.
The motherboard is PCI and no SATA controller on board.
So I need a SATA/PCI controller.
Is there something wrong to do this kind of switch?
Some told me that I won't be able to boot that drive.
Loosing part of the SATA interface speed is not a decisive factor on this machine
Is there are some prefered Linux SATA controller?

add on sata card relabeling drives, installation
Hi all.
I have a new server and am playing with the installation. (centos 6). My
onboard sata card has 6 drives attached to it,
yet the server has 8 bays. I bought a sata controller card (adaptec) and
added it to the mix, adding two more drives.
Everything works and all is accessible, but there is one annoying issue.
When installing with anaconda, the 2 drives located on the add-on sata
card

Centos 4.4 install on ASUS A8V-VM does not find SATA drives
Yes, I know someone last week asked a similar question (Problem with ASUS
P5VD2-X X SATA II) but the only answer I saw on that thread was the
equivalent of "I've heard it's bad so I won't do it." Unfortunately, that
doesn't help me much.
The BIOS does indeed recognise my two SATA hard drives, and I've got the
BIOS set to "IDE" (which disables

Xen Installation problems
Hello Xen Users,
I am facing a problem getting my installation of XEN boot up on a Red
Hat Linux Guest OS. What''s happening is that the grub loader tries to
install Xen but after a while it crashes and starts rebooting
recursively. I have tried both the entries listed below. I am using the
following entries in the grub.conf file:

HP DL140G2 and SATA woes
Posted a similar version of this to the RHEL4 list...
I''m having trouble getting CentOS 4.2 installed on a DL140G2 with two SATA
drives. I am doing a PXE install, so I do not have a CD-ROM drive in the
system and this appears to have the side-effect that both SATA drives are
caught by the Uniform Multi-Platform E-IDE driver before ata_piix can catch
it.
As soon as I hook an IDE CD-ROM
