Markdown for phpBB, vBulletin and the rest?
Is there any way Markdown could be ported to the major bulletin board programs, like phpBB? It seems like such a place would be a great fit for Markdown. It would definitely be a lot better than using BBcode or vBcode or whatever the heck it is they call that mish-mash of pseudo-HTML they use. -------------------------------------------------------- Robert Dumas robdumas@gmail.com

Calibre-bbcode gem installation problem
Hi all! Just a little problem here: I have run gem install calibre-bbcode, and it worked. Then, I added "require ''calibre/bbcode''" in my environnment.rb as suggested , and it keeps telling me "no such file to load -- calibre/bbcode" If I try to reinstall the gem, it tells me "successfully installed calibre-bbcode-1.0.0 after doing nothing. I am in Wiki hell thanks to the morons that are spamming the wili. I went to check on the articles for integrating with phpBB as I was going to code it today and it is gone. phpbb forum with rails application.
I would like to knock up a phpbb forum with a rails application. I wanted to do this as I want to use ActiveRecord to crawl through the user database in the rails app. Is there a way to do this - on the same domain name and server... Or does it depend how the server is setup? -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

PHPBB+Centos
I'm having a hard time getting PHPBB installed on Centos. We get the error that The PHP configuration on your server doesn't support the database type that you chose. We choose MySQL 3.x but get that error. Perhaps PHP4 isn't compatible with MySQL 3.23.58-1? -- <<JAV>>

Forbidden: can't access *.html files in /var/www/html
Hello, I'm using the latest CentOS with phpBB 3.0.x + postgreSQL + sendmail (relayed through gmail.com) - all those programs working fine, with no big modifications of the CentOS defaults (i.e. SELinux is on). Now I'm struggling with the seemingly simple problem, that when I put an .html file into /var/www/html/ then Apache won't serve it. In the browser I see: "Forbidden You

using markdown in a forum?
Hi, Is markdown a good language to use in a web forum application? How does it compare to bbcode in features and ease-of-use for non-technical users? I'm thinking of using jquery-markedit in that forum app. Thanks, -- http://www.cruisefish.net

Splitting the list or goofy offers to do the list as a PHPbb, NNTP, or other forums would only serve to dilute the value of the collective wisdom of the people on this list. Suppose the

Jason i think you have misread me Im not saying that the phpBB system would have spam runing through it Im saying that on this list serv someone is spaming. They are not spamming to the list they are spamming email accounts instead. I have used phpBB and it works just fine both from a user and an admin end. i would prefer it for THIS reason but there are still reasons i would NOT like to use it.

When you set up phpBB, the admin can specify defaults. They include "Make email address private" and "Allow members to receive private messages" The admin would set they defaults to "yes" and "no" respectively. That means the member would have to take an action (change a setting in his profile or on an individual post) for his email address to be
