Newbie question about periodically_call_remote
Hi,
I''m new to Ruby on Rails (and Ruby itself). So far, I''ve been able to
find answers to most of my questions in the docs or mailing lists. One
thing I haven''t been able to find the answer to is how to stop a
periodically_call_remote call. My first Rails app is going to be a
front-end for our Ant-based build system at work. While the build is
running,

Q: periodically_call_remote ( how to make it execute just once? )
I posted this ealier on the web forums but noticed a similar question
about this function and one user responded to try this list instead. If
anyone can help I would greatly appreciate your suggestions.
Q:
Is there a way to use periodically_call_remote to run just one time
instead of every '':frequency'' seconds?
I tried putting the call inside the div container thinking it

Initial load time when periodically_call_remote
When I do periodically_call_remote with e.g. :frequency => 30
after initial page load I have to wait 30 seconds until this partial
renders first time. Does anybody know how to make ROR to render partial
on web page load, and then start periodic calls every 30 seconds? I
tried to put
<div id=''mydiv''><%= render(:partial, :action=>''myaction'')

Pass parameters in periodically_call_remote?
Hi,
I am still new to RoR, so please bear with this newbie question. I

controller when the periodically_call_remote is called. Right now,
this is the code in the view:
<div id="get_result"></div>

Can I send a redirect_to() call to a periodically_call_remote() function?...
Hi,
I''m using Rails 1.1 and the periodically_call_remote() helper to
query the server for the progress of a long running action.
I''m using the excellent new RJS partials to send a page.replace_html()
to update the status information on the page--which works very
well.
When the action completes I''m also trying to send a redirect_to()
by the same approach--which

AJAX: do render but show element in same click?
I''m a rails newbie.
I''ve got a link_to_remote that puts a partial render into a div
("note1", "note2", etc.). As part of the display that comes up, I put
in a hide note link (element.toggle). Click that, the div goes away,
everything''s great... except now I can''t get it back.
How can I call the remote AND make the div show at the same

pass text_field to controller when using periodically_call_r
Hi. Can anyone help with this? In a view, I have a text_field_tag(
:mytextfield ). I would like to pass the current value of that
text_field_tag to a periodically_call_remote - something like
periodically_call_remote( :url => { :action => :do_it, :thetextval =>
:mytextfield.value } ) - Any idea how can I pass and/or access the value
of the text_field_tag in my do_it controller?

Is there a huge performance difference between using multiple periodically_call_remote functions or one?
My application has multiple things on the interface that need to be
updated periodically. Some things every second, others not so much.
Some of these things are global, meaning they are on the interface at
all times, and some of these things are view specific. So what I
figured I would do is add the periodically_call_remote function for
the global elements and another one for the view

padawan seeks advice from jedi masters to create toggle box via ajax/rjs before slitting wrists with ruby powered light-saber.
I AM TRYING TO MAKE A DAMN TOGGLE BOX, BUT USING MY OWN GRAPHIC AND HAVING
THE MOUSECLICK TRIGGER BOTH SWITCHING THE GRAPHIC (via AJAX) AND SAVING THE
STATE IN THE DATABASE.
I GOT IT ALL WORKING WITH NORMAL HTML GET CALLS TO THE SERVER, BUT I NEED IT
TO BE AJAXIFIED SO THAT THE PAGE DOESN''T RELOAD.
AND TO COMPLICATE MATTERS, IT HAS TO WORK IN A TABLE WITH AN ARBITRARY

Konqueror Ajax update
I had been comparing IE and Firefox Ajax performance, and since I have a
couple of Unix boxes in my workshop, I threw Konqueror into the mix, and
reported here earlier today (or yesterday) that Konqueror ( 3.4.3) could
handle Ajax perfectly, at least as far as the simplest AWDWR Ajax example
(./example/index) was concerned.
It occurred to me to do a more grueling test.

Remote function call & not render anything?
Is it possible for me to do a periodically_call_remote on an action, but
have that action render nothing?
The problem is I want it to sometimes update a div, and sometimes do
nothing to the div. How can this be done?
Thanks,
Ben

Timing of effects before and after Ajax call
Hello,
I have a problem with the timing of effects. I do have a tag (with id:
post1). When the link is clicked, the block "post1" must BlindUp. Then the
block is updated with the new content and then the effect BlindDown is
executed.
Below is the source code of the link_to_remote I am using.
<%= link_to_remote("Ajax Edit",
:update =>
