OT: Anyone have experience with completelydedicated.com?
Guys, I''m in the market for a reliable, trustworthy dedicated server solution. I''ve been running my own servers internally on a Speakeasy Static IP DSL connection, but recent problems with my local loop has caused me to reconsider this solution. completelydedicated.com offers a value Sempron for $59/monthly...a bit higher than I wish to go but I have no choice. Processor
Hi, I am interested in the thoughts of the people who know the architecture of Asterisk quite well.. What I am interested in is the performace difference of Celeron vs P4 vs Xeon.. I know Intel marketing says that servers should be Xeon, Workstations should be P4 and desktops should be Celeron and they are priced to the specific target market.. I am on a tight budget and so I am looking for the

Getting started with Xen
Hi List, Being very new to Xen I have a few generic questions for the list, I hope to grab some useful advice and pointers to documentation. I am evaluating Xen to consolidate a few existing servers into one appliance (mainly in order to reduce power consumption, heat, and hardware failure risks). I plan to have a SER router, an Asterisk LCR router, a voicemail server, a calling card server

Upgrade to CentOS8
Hi Leon, I don't have the infra (nor the knowledge or expertise) to create a LiveCD I didn't think about Fedora. This is indeed a good pointer, I will definitely try that Actually, I'm not too worried about the basics, but rather about the wifi, audio & video drivers (one of the boxes is a multimedia system) Thanks!

Dual CPU performance in routing
Hello I have question, currently using linux box as router. It only route packets. Currently there is 80k packets/sec and this cause 90% CPU usage on Intel Celeron 3ghz CPU. Did multiprocessor system like 2x XEON DP 3.4ghz will divide CPU usage between 2 CPU and will allow double routing performance ? -- Golem

Tutorial : Debian, Xen and CLUSTER / GFS Support
Hello there! I made Debian, Xen 2.0 and CLUSTER/GFS work together :). I wrote this little tutorial to help you setup yours. Any feedback is welcome, except comments about W3C validation of my code :p Note that I am talking about compiling CLUSTER with your XEN kernel, I don''t explain how to setup a working cluster. You can find how to setup those in official RedHat docs. You will see,

Ubuntu Migration
I've just migrated Asterisk from my old Gentoo system to an Ubuntu system, copied across all the /etc/asterisk files and now it fails to work. After brief looks, I find that it can't access: /var/log/asterisk/messages /var/run/asterisk.ctl /var/run/asterisk.pid So I touched these files, and chown/chgrp'd then to user/group asterisk/asterisk. Now, when I run asterisk through

Dismal R performance of Athlon moble CPU?
I have been using a laptop computer of Pentium III 1.13 Ghz. I heard that AMD's Athlon has excellent floating point capacity. So I bought a Athlon 2200+ laptop yesterday. I expected that new Athlon 2200+ will be twice as fast as the P III 1.13 GB. I ran a R simulation program and the new computer is only 30% faster, in fact slightly slower than a Celeron 1.50 GB laptop. I am very disappointed

cpu frequency scaling in domUs
Hi, I''ve recently installed xen-3.2.1 on my AMD Sempron(tm) machine. It runs gentoo 2.6.21 as dom0 and cpu frequency scaling works in dom0. But inside a domU, cpu frequency scaling is not working. By checking the boot log in domU I found that domU is unable to load the powernow driver: "powernow-k8: BIOS error - no PSB or ACPI _PSS objects" I wonder if it is possible to have

Xen 3.3.0 cpu cache problems
Dear Xen users, I have a problem with "Xen 3.3.0". All domU (paravirt) only have "32 KB" of cache instead of "6144 KB" as listed in dom0. This is really noticeable under load since the system tends to be really slow. I did not have this problem with "Xen 3.2.1". I''m using the same domU configuration files for the new and the old installation.

GNBD and DRBD kernel mods
Hi all, I am using heartbeat and drbd on CentOS 5 (see http://www.centos.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=7816&forum=41 for details).. DRBD and heartbeat are working, and now I want to put GNBD on top on this. However, I installed the latest CentOS-plus kernel (2.6.18-8.1.8.el5.centos.plus) but there doesn't appear to be a kmod-gndb for this kernel. Looks like the latest

Xen and ACPI Sleep
Hi, I am currently testing Xen on my laptop and was wondering if there was any way to enable ACPI sleep so that I can resume sessions when I''m on the go. Is this possible? If so, could you please highlight how to achieve this? Thank you. -- Mathew Brown mathewbrown@fastmail.fm -- http://www.fastmail.fm - Access all of your messages and folders

cpu type
I have a quick question. The board and CPU that I'm using in one of my machines was given to me. I didn't take the time to look up the info on the board or anything. I was busy, so I just put the board in a pc case, hooked everything up, and loaded the os on the machine. I didn't know it at the time, but there's a chance it may be a 64bit board and cpu. I don't
