Mocking and stubbing Rails'' association extensions
I''m having a lot of trouble stubbing out an association extension for
some view tests. Example rails code modeling a music album:
class Album < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :songs do
def streamable
find(:all, :conditions => ''streamable = 1'')
end
end
end
So for a given Album instance (say @album), I need to be able to stub

type image submit tags on IE dropping the params
I have noticed that on IE, the @params[:commit] does not come through on
image submit tags, but it does when the image is removed.
this fails:
<%= submit_tag( "Schedule", {:type => "image",
:src=>"/images/buttons/schedulecard.gif", :alt=>"Schedule Card",
:class=>"button"})%>
but this works:

link_to_remote, image_tag, mouseover is this possible?
Hi guys,
I was wondering if you are able to have a link_to_remote, having an
image_tag and the link_to_remote has a mouseover event that updates a
div. Does the image_tag need the mouseover event? I currently have:
<%= link_to_remote(image_tag(@p_image.public_filename(:thumb)), :update
=> "big_pic", :onmouseover => {:action => :color_change, :id =>
@p_image.id})%>

nested rest URL => passing param from select
Hi,
I''m trying to create a select box with an onchange event. When onchange
is fired, I want to redirect to a nested rest url. The problem is that I
don''t know how to pass the selected value to the url:
<select id="category" onchange=" <%= remote_function(:url =>
category_articles_path(selected value?) ) %> ">
Any suggestions?

I was trying to experiment a litte bit with redMine (www.redmine.org).
But I can only install it locally. On a system with already a
mongrel_cluster running, I get strange errors, already while trying to
start the migration rake db:migrate

backgroundrb script crashing on startup
Everything works fine on my development box (Ubuntu 7.10, Ruby 1.8.6)
but on my server (Fedora Core 6, Ruby 1.8.5) when I run
script/backgroundrb start, the process fails to start.
This is with Rails 2.0.2 frozen in the app, and I have the most recent
version of the plugin (r297). Is Ruby 1.8.6 a requirement for
backgroundrb now? I can''t figure any other reason it would fail...

[PATCH] Allow generic autocompleter (Ajax.Watcher)
Hey. Below is a patch to allow generic Ajax.Autocompleters. Basically
it''s for people who wanna be able to watch an input for changes, but
don''t want it to pop up an autocompleter box below. Useful for live
previews, that kind of thing.
Someone''s gonna have to fix the tabstops. I couldn''t be arse to work out
how to make vim do the softtabs properly. Spaces for

Re: using Ajax.PeriodicalUpdater in iPhone
it''s probably the iPhone.
I mean, would you *really* want your phone to be connected to the internet
all the time?

strange RJS behavior
I used RJS extensively in my last web app with no problem.
I''m just beginning a new one and having a very odd problem.
The called method, get_names, retrieves some values from the database,
then ends:
render :layout => false
the get_names.rjs file is rendered into Javascript, but then is just
dumped as Javascript (text) into the browser:
e.g:
try {

How-to spec this helper method?...
Hey gang,
I have this dead-simple method defined in a helper:
def add_category_link(name)
link_to_function name do |page|
page.insert_html :bottom, :categories, :partial =>
''category'', :object => Category.new
end
end
Where, and mostly how, would I spec this? I haven''t been able to find
how to stub the rjs in a helper spec, so

to_json inconsistency?
Hello,
ActiveSupport::JSON::Variable.to_json is the only to_json without an
"options" parameter. Is this intended?
For example, this code in a .rjs
page[@user.dom_id].visual_effect :drop_out, :afterFinish =>
ActiveSupport::JSON::Variable.new("foo")
fails with
ActionView::TemplateError: wrong number of arguments (1 for 0)

ASP.NET AJAX Web Services and Prototype Version 1.5.1.1
I wanted to use a web service published with ASP.NET AJAX from
Prototype Version 1.5.1.1
It''s easier to call an ASP.NET AJAX web service by using an ASP.NET
AJAX page with a proxy class, but I have an application which still
has many Classic ASP pages and using Prototype seemed like a better
idea than hand coding the the interactions, or figuring out how to
include all the right ASP.NET
