use case for exposing xenstore attributes via sysfs [long]
I''ve seen some people asking why exposing xenstore attributes via sysfs could be useful. Here''s why I would really like to see such a patch make it into Xen: I''ve been working on getting domU''s to know enough about themselves to be manageable. I require a 128-bit UUID for each domU, and I require that each domU be able to determine its own UUID in userspace.

Suspend fails, "not managed by Xend lifecycle support"
I have a dom0 (Linux) with one domU (also Linux). I haven''t tried suspend and restore before, but it seems easy enough. But when I try it I get the error: % sudo xm suspend evil Error: Domain is not managed by Xend lifecycle support. ...Really? I can use other xm commands to query the domU, including xm console. The domU had to get there somehow, and since xm is the only way I

latency between LIFECYCLE event and notification generation
Hi, I have registered for LIFECYCLE events of libvirt. But I don't know, 1. about the the latency of these events happening and notification generation. e.g. suppose a VM goes down. How much time it takes to realize that the particular VM has gone down(going to say, DEFINED state) and then notification is generated? 2. Second question is, can someone please explain what are the sequence of

Puppet Development Lifecycle Documentation - How to contribute to Puppet
The documentation on the wiki for the development lifecycle process has been updated in an effort to make it easier for people to get code into Puppet. The goals were to make it correct and easy to follow, so take a look and let us know if there''s anything that could use improvement. http://projects.puppetlabs.com/projects/puppet/wiki/Development_Lifecycle The intent is not to be rigid

DirectX in Wine
I've tried to install the game "Caesar 3" on my Linux-box. It worked fine during the installation. The problem appeared when I wanted to play it. Caesar 3 needed the file DDRAW.DLL I found out that it was one of DirectX's .dll-files. Isn't Wine supposed to work with DirectX without installing it? Doesn't Wine have its own "DirectX-clone"? What should I

Help running Caesar 3
Hello, I'm trying to get Caesar 3 running on my linux machine, but it always hangs while loading. I installed Caesar 3 on my windows machine and them copied the files to the linux box, and updated the registry so it points to the right drives, etc. Wine works fine on other apps. When I try to run "wine c3.exe:" it starts up fine, and begins to load. It goes through several load

sequencer (sound)
Greetings! Hope this is the right forum. Got the 20040309 wine source, built it, installed it. Seemns to work reasonably well. However, when attempting to install/run games that are stated to be working under wine (Caesar III, Railroad Tycoon II), I can install (in the case of Caesar III, I get sound, none in RRTII). However, when attempting to run Caesar, it hangs, and I get a blank

[PATCH] [HVM] Make serial number in SMBIOS table equal to UUID
[HVM] [SMBIOS] Duplicate UUID into serial number in SMBIOS tables. Windows zeroes out the UUID in the SMBIOS tables, but the identifier is often needed by systems management code. Software lifecycle for R releases (aka practical limits of support for older versions)
Hello useRs: Does anyone have thoughts on the lifecycle of older releases of R? I know that currently the 2.8.x and 2.9.x releases seem to be actively "supported" on the mailing lists, but what about older releases, say 2.4.x? Curious to hear when people think older versions of R become obsolete and unsupportable on the lists (or other venues). Regards, Brian

4.2.1 ./configure --sbindir & --bindir settings is different from binary?
Hi, I'm getting further in building Samba 4.2.1 . It's apparently not as simple as sudo ./configure && make && make install. At the moment it looks like make is ignoring some directory settings during configuration. I've run ./configure as follows: sudo ./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --with-piddir=/var/run/samba

Mouse focus in Wine
Hi, If I play a game in Wine - either Caesar III or Half Life come to mind right now - they seem to work better for me in a windowed setup where the game is not full screen and I can still see the rest of my Gnome desktop in the background. Caesar III plays well under Cedega or Wine, HL much better under Cedega, but the point being that I've tried both. The frustration I've had is
