How to instruct Wine to use MSIE rendering engine by default instead of Gecko?
Hi,
I need to debug some complex Javascript that leaks in MSIE (no leaks
in Firefox though). For this purpose, I am trying to utilize programs
like Drip and sIEve. Both programs fail under Wine, and my guess is,
they try to use Gecko as the rendering engine (and this is not what's
desired: Gecko works fine with my stuff).
Now, provided that MSIE can be installed under Wine, and works, can

Which exactly Linux kernel version was used to build the Xen 3.1 binary?
Hi,
Which of the Mercurial repos contains Linux kernel sources that were
used to build the Xen 3.1 binary distribution?
I have this question because I am suspecting that the sata_via driver
included in the distribution is not supporting my SATA controller
VIA8237x (I get error messages when modprobe''ing it from an init
ramdisk).

OT: How many watts do I need?
Hello all,
Sorry for the OT thing.
I'm helping a friend setting up a new box. It's a Pentium 4 with 430Watt power
supply. He wants to plugin his old harddrives and DVD into the new box. The
total will be: 3 harddrives, 1 DVD drive, 1 CDRW drive. In the box there are
also 2 big fans.
Is 430Watt enough?
Thank you for your sharing.

Drive use in wine
I'm running Wine release 20011004 and have created the floppy and CDs
drives for my floppy, CD and CDRW. I am automounting the devices.
1. I've noticed that if I don't have a floppy or CD in the drive wine
ignores it and even if I insert a disk later the app (notepad) never sees
it.
2. I have two CDs, one a Creative DVD and the other a Plextor CDRW, and
I've created the

MOre on buring ISOs
So right now I have installed k3b on this notebook. I am using my Storix
DVD/CDRW usb drive. I can read cds with it.
Cannot burn CDs. First k3b suggests slowing down (from 8x to 4x). Then
use TAO. Then it gave up.
So I try cdrecord directly. -checkdrive finds some interesting things.
Got to close the drive manually; cdrecord says it can't. then try a
cdrecord -v dev=dev/scd0 sample.iso

FLAC to mp3 batch converter?
I'm just wondering if someone wrote a perl script to convert
a directory with flac files into mp3 and preserving the id3 tag
from flac to mp3?
I have two harddrives where I keep my favorite CDs in flac and others in mp3 but
when I get tired of them, I move them into mp3 and rather than popping the
original CD in, it might be easier to just convert from flac to mp3 directly.
Please cc me on

Re: FLAC to mp3 batch converter?
Christian,
Sorry I don't think I was so clear with my explaination of what I
am doing. Your requirement flac -> mp3 is really a special case
of ripping, if you think of the entire chain....
normal ripping:
CD -> wav -> mp3
Your case is
[CD -> wav ->] flac -> wav -> mp3
Which is equivalent to:
flac -> wav -> mp3
I need this too and am proposing to use a ripping

Sharing a CD-RW
Hi,
I'm a newbie at samba (I just configured the samba server on my Linux box). I was wondering if, along with the printer and disk space, I could even share the CD Writer on the linux box as a device which my "windows" friends could map and burn CDs on.
any comments would be of great help
thanks
deepak.

Re: FLAC to mp3 batch converter?
Hi Christian,
There is a perl script called rip (rip.sourceforge.net) that I was
looking to alter for a similar requirment (flacs at home -> mp3s
on laptop). I patched flac support into it for the encoder a couple
of months ago.
At the moment it uses cdparanoia to rip from CD but should not be
hard to add flac as an alternative 'ripper' to make wavs and then
you can use the encoder

Offtopic: Which SAS / SATA HBA do you recommend?
Hi all,
Sorry for the offtopic question. I hope though that others on this list
or reading the archive find the answers useful too.
It seems the Adaptec 1405 4port SAS HBA I bought only works with RHEL
and SuSE through a closed source driver, and thus is quite useless :-(
I was stupid enought to think "Works with RHEL and SuSE" meant "Certified

Minor idea - "Press any key to boot within 5 second" style of thing...
I like how some cds, such as the windows installer discs will skip
booting from the disc if you accidentally left the drive because they
require you to hit a key to make them actually boot from the disc.
I've kind of tried to emulate this behavior using chain.c32, but, it
requires me to specify which harddrive, and I'd rather see an
independant setup. I've tried localboot -1, but, it

Unable to install CentOS 5.2 on New HP Intel Core 2 Quad
Our new lab has HP Intel Core 2 Quad systems with DVD/CDRW and SATA.
I can provide the model number if needed.
They stop on kernel startup when trying to boot the CentOS 5.2 boot CD.
It is during ACPI.
I have tried linux noprobe and linux pci=noacpi and linux noprobe

I still cannot get to the first install screen.

Intel Matrix SATA RAID drivers
Hello CentOS,
Does anyone know if there's a driver out there that'll enable CentOS
