Model Composition in Rails
I''m struggling understanding the model view of a combined model. Take the following: class P4 < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :p4_priorities end I figured out the naming and referencing of the sub models (i.e. P4.p4_priorities - seems simple enough but I had weird issues related to it). I''m all ok except that I am having issues with how to reference a

Multiple apps on server conflicting
We have a situation where one app on the server seems to be affecting another. So, we start the first app on port 3000 and run it and all is well. We start the second app on port 3006 and it fails (blank screen). We then have to blow away the temp files and try again. If we start the 3006 one it will work and then start 3000 and it fails. So, in essence the first one wins. Any thoughts? We are in

Creating a DB in the schema import process
I''ve got a bunch of table creations in the schema.rb file and all is well. However, I have to manually go and create the db first. Is there a way (something like a create_database method) to get this to work? (execute "create database ..." didn''t seem to cut it either.) _______________________ Brad Eck Sr. Software Engineer Pelco 3500 Pelco Way Clovis, CA 93612

Active Search
Issue: I am trying to get a good quality search capability across our site. I ran across ActiveSearch (http://julik.textdriven.com/svn/tools/rails_plugins/simple_search/) which seems to be a better solution for us than SimpleSearch (and SearchGenerator) as it is more than just word based. However, I am unable to get the project built and being fairly new to Ruby / Rails I''m a little

Follow up on async I/O question
Sunil Mushran wrote: >And as that gets into reading debugocfs outputs, the user has to make the determination, if the effort is worth the gain in performance. Why only logfiles? Well, because Oracle performs large ios only to the logfiles. The ios to be datafiles are in smaller chunks. Hope this helps. Sunil I'd like to point out a small mistake in this post. From OCFS to tape via tar (and back again)
We're using RMAN to back up our 9.2 RAC database to an OCFS v1 volume. We have an existing shell script that we use for copying files from disk to tape via tar, one file at a time. (Don't ask why. It's a legacy script. Long story.) We're tweaking this script to use --o_direct when tarring the file to tape and that seems to be working fine: # tape device is /dev/nst0 $ tar

Help with dump/restore
So I recently installed an Overland Arcvault 12 tape library on a server to back up /var/log/ and /home. The server is an out-of-box RHEL 5 install, with all packages selected, in an isolated lan, with no package updates. Also, this is a live server that cannot be brought down for backups, and some files may be actively in use during the dump - just gotta live with it. Since I know EL5 and

Wins Refresh
Samba Folks, I am facing a very strange problem in my net. I've the WINS Server, based on SAMBA(2.2.7-2) in RH 8.0. When I put on machine in the domain, the Wins registers in the browser list.. Later that I removed the machine from domain, the Wins does not give one refresh and clean the array name. I tried to remove the name wrong of the table/var/lock/samba/browser.dat and wins.dat, but

Can anyone suggest a decent backup system?
Hi all, We have a bit of a problem with backups. We've been using bacula to tape and now trying to disk but it's a complete nightmare as regards tape management. The backup to file storage went ok for ages and now is stuck 'waiting for max storage jobs' which is odd as that's set to 20 and it's the only backup running. That's totally typical of bacula. Can anyone

[LLVMdev] Best way to interface with MSVC _ftol2 runtime function for fptoui?
2012/1/19 Jakob Stoklund Olesen <stoklund at 2pi.dk>: > How many of these libcalls do you need to implement? What exactly is the calling convention? Which registers are clobbered etc. There is only one (that I know about so far). The MSVCRT `_ftol2` function implements floating-point-to-unsigned conversion for i386 targets, and LLVM 3.0 calls it with the cdecl calling convention for
