(resend - sorry!) Which controllers?
Hello,
I have recently started learning RoR. I think it''s _fantastic_. I am
absolutely blown away.
OK, this is to prepare you to my idiotic question. Hopefully, I won''t
be stoned.
I am designing a simple application, where users can register, and:
* Publish a photo album
* Publish a simple blog with comments
* Determine their list of friends and foes
The application will

Strange Array behaviour
I''m having a strange thing when using the Enumerable extensions for
Rails:
Have a look at the following code:
class Invoice < ActiveRecord::Base
has_many :invoice_lines
def total
invoice_lines.sum(&:total)
end
end
class InvoiceLine < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :invoice
def total
amount * price
end
end
Now, when calling invoice.total, I get wrong

Shared remote repository
Hello,
I have a bit of a problem - I have the feeling the solution is
ridicolously trivial, and yet I can't find it!
I have a remote repository of text files. Until today, I was the only
one changing those files: I would simply change them locally, and
update the remote repository with this command:
cd local_dir
rsync --delete -e ssh -Llavuz . merc@remote_server:remote_directory

Links on the left hand side - are components necessary?
Hello,
Maybe this is super-trivial...
I need to have a list of links on the left hand side of my application,
for *every* single page.
So, I''ve created a layout called "main" (main.rhtml) under
view/layouts, and included >layout "main"< in pretty all of my
controllers.
main.rhtml has, amongst all the other HTML stuff:
<%= render_component

Not accepting nil values in fields when CREATING a record
Hello,
I have a question for you.
In my application, I want to make sure that the database doesn''t have
any NULLs in fields.
I can''t use validates_presence_of, because it will puke if there''s an
empty string ("")
So... is there an EASY way to check if a list of fields is null?
Right now, I''m doing:
def validate()

ActiveRecord saving madness?
Hello,
First of all, I love RoR. I am studying it, and I am finally "getting
there".
However, I do have a bit of a problem with ActiveRecord''s saving
behaviour.
Imagine to have Orders (id, name) {has_one:invoice} and Invoices (id,
order_id) {belongs_to :order} .
If you type:
invoice = Invoice.new(...whatever...)
an_order.invoice = invoice
if invoice fails to save, you

Hi
I have the following code, which makes use of an sql statment to get the
results required.
However this just doesnt seem right for rails, as ive managed to develop
the whole project without using any other pure sql.
Is there a cleaner way of doing this, but gaining the same results.
thanks

BIG JS limit? Using replace_html with partials containing JS
Hello,
It''s pretty hard giving a practical example on this one.
I have a partial which contains some generated Javascript.
Something like:
order_screen.rhtml
-------------------------------------------
<h1>Order</h1>
<div id="order_part">
<%=render :partial=>''order_new'' %>
</div>
<h1>Ordered products</h1>

Invoice system
Hi,
I wanna make a invoice system. I''ve set up a invoice model and a
invoice_item model (invoice has_many invoice_item and invoice_item
belongs_to invoice). Also invoice belongs_to a customer, and a customer
has_many invoice.
My problem is i don''t know how to create the form for making a new
invoice. I''ve made a similar system in php, and here is how the html
form was:

Ordering Results returned by has_many relationship.
Noob Question 31,265,232
if I''m searching on an object, say order, that has many "order_lines"
and I want to display order lines by Quantity ( an attribute of the
order_lines ) descending
how could I do that without having to do a find() with :order, but
something like;
Order.order_lines.each do |ol|

Stuck on ActiveRecord
Hi,
I''m having great fun developing with Rails but I''ve come to a problem
that I can''t quite figure out.
I have an Order object that "has_many" order_lines. This works perfectly
and I can see all the lines.
The OrderLine object has an order_id field as well as product_id and
amount.
Now ideally I would want to do :
order.orderline[0].product.name

it probably is a noob question but I''m confused by this error message:

Situation:
I have an InvoicesController with a create method that in turn calls
upon a MiddleMan.worker(:billing_worker), which in turn finds an Invoice
and calls upon @invoice.print_invoice

Find_all_by and find(:all) to only select certain values for a selection box
So....let''s have a look if I understood the issue:
-Find_all_by is actually the same like Find(:all), however Find_all_by
is much shorter and less complicated than the syntax of Find(:all)
-So in my CONTROLLER it says @files = find(:all) however I don''t want
to see all files displayed in my selection box, because I only want to
see the foles whose mandant_id is the same like

Hi..Guys new plugin again
Hi..
Guys new plugin again
Foreign Key Associations is a plugin that automatically creates
associations based on foreign-keys. The associations are created at
runtime-ie. as your ActiveRecord models are loaded-so they will always
be up-to-date.
For example, given a foreign-key from a customer_id column in an
orders table to an id column in a customers table, the plugin
creates:
