2.4 Kernel and Hyperthreading (was Re: P4 processor

Could the same result could be obtained if hyperthreading is disabled from
the BIOS ?
Supermicro Motherboards (most Phoneix based) have this option
Also, would we see same pops and clicks in a dual CPU box (Zeon) then ?

P4 processor with Hyperthreading and Asterisk
Hello,
I read an interesting article on 2cpu.com that talks about the performance
differences between a P4 processor with Hyperthreading(HT) enabled and
disabled.
http://www.2cpu.com/articles/ht_explored/index.html
The bottom line of the article is that processor intensive applications
greatly benefit from HT being enabled, but memory intensive applications can
actually see a slight decrease in

domU machines hang when Hyperthreading enabled in BIOS
Hi,
I can''t get rid of an annoying domU machines hanging issue with
Hyperthreading enabled in my BIOS.

Kernel version: 2.6.12.6

Hyperthreaded P4 processor count
I have three different live-CD distributions that give me different
numbers for the cpu count on this box (Dell P4 2.4GHz).
-the Knoppix 3.3 (11-19-03) says 1 processor (no error);
-the PHLAK 0.2 distribution say 1 processor (and 1 missing)
-the Local Area Security distro says two processors (identicle P4s).
Might there be somthing new in 2.0.8 that accounts for this difference. Is
there a

R: Hyperthreading?
That's the problem we had with Asterisk and HT on a 2.4 Kernel: whenever Asterisk was staying in the RTP stream, and HT was enabled (on a Dell Dual Xeon system), we had choppy audio. After disabling HT, everything was fine again. Nothing measurable, indeed, but you could definitely hear it. So there *must* be something.

Problems with hyperthreading in Windows HVM
Hi,
I have been trying to get Hyperthreading to work in a Windows HVM on
Xen 4.1.2 as described in ''xmexample.hvm''. I think I have set it up
correctly, but I can''t seem to get it to work. There is not much
documentation on it and most topics are from years ago. I''m curious to
know to whether this functionality is still supposed to work.
I''m aware that

Xen 3.0 and Hyperthreading an issue?
Just gave 3.0 a spin. Had been running 2.0.7 for the past 3 months or so without problems (aside from intermittent failure during live migration). Anyway, 3.0 seems to have an issue with my machine. It starts up the 4 domains that I''ve got defined (was running 6 user domains with 2.0.7, but two of those were running 2.4 kernels which I can''t seem to build with Xen 3.0 yet, and

New version of package ff
Dear R community,
Package bit version 1.1-3 and ff version 2.1.2 is available on CRAN and should be useful to handle large datasets.
It adds convenient utilities for managing ff objects and files (see ?ffsave) and removes some performance bottlenecks.
In case you experience unexpected performance problems with ff, here is a couple of recommendations based on FAQs:
1) Compare the size of data

Which g729 codec to download for a P4?
Sorry for being a bit of a newbie here but I find the
docs or README for downloading the G.729 codec from Digium
are not as detailed as I would like or just don't really
break down the different versions to a point that I am clear
on which one to grab.
The choices for 32bit are:

Linux DomU vs Bare Metal performance issues
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hi, I''m trying to diagnose a reasonably large performance drop between
two ostensibly similar servers; one running CentOS 5.5 on bare metal,
the other running Fedora 14 as a Xen DomU under CentOS 5.5 (Xen
3.1.2-194.26.1.el5)
I have a pair of older Dell PowerEdge 1750 servers, each with 4GB ram

Yes in the bios I set unused irq's. Zttest is sporadic.
This is a non HT cpu, on a standard ide drive. It is basically just a

Compiling Zaptel on EM64T machine
Hi Guys
Im trying to complile Asterisk on my new dual Xeon 3.0ghz EM64T machine.
Im running Debian 3.1, and have installed the 2.6.8-11-em64t-p4-smp kernel (and headers). The system is working fine and is detecting both CPU's (4 actually, with hyperthreading).
But when I try to compile Zaptel, Im getting this error:
/lib/modules/2.6.8-11-em64t-p4-smp? /build

IPMI in Libvirt
Greetings all,
I am looking for a solution to use IPMI (BMC) in with LibVirt (Virt-Manager). Actually there is a Customer behind this request as well.
Trying to be short: We are looking for a Solution in OpenStack Environment. Customer wants to have the entire environment running in Virt-Manager (probably for a P.O.C or tests purposes). So here is what he is trying to do: http://red.ht/1HfNn9r

CentOS 4 and Intel P4 without Hyper-Threading vs. Intel P4 with Hyper-Threading
Hello
Does anyone know of any possible concerns in moving a "production" CentOS 4
install from one machine to another where the "only" difference is that the
processor changes from a 1.8 Intel P4 "without" Hyper-Threading to a 3.0
Intel P4 "with" Hyper-Threading ?
I am guessing not, yet I "have to" ask.

Hyperthreading
Hi, All:
Does the guest OS need to detect hyperthreading? One would think that
the hypervisor decides what to schedule on what CPU, and the job of
the guest is not to be too smart for its own good. So, my first
reaction was to comment detect_ht() altogether.
Fedora Core 5 has the code in detect_ht(), though I have no idea what
the results of this are on HT CPUs, if they match the reality.

Is Dual CPU machine solution for using Asterisk with other general apps (like home automation, web server, ...) in home environment ?
Hi,
I'm currently thinking of putting more functionalities to Linux server box.
Major is Asterisk, but would also like to add video surveillance, home
automation and limited (for only domestic up to 4 users) web, file and
mailserver apps.
I know there are problems running Asterisk with other such apps on same
machine - but wonder if I can take advantage of dual processor machine in

DOS/Freedos: Can't use mkfloppyimg.sh or mkdiskimage for +8M images ( Solved)
Hi,
I did found the problem, a combination of 2 factor.
1- I taught that I did install the latest syslinux, but in fact it was
the 3.36 version.
2- Thank to kevin Connelly, he point me to a problem he got with
mkdosfs command. The default FAT16 do not work, but the FAT12 do. By
adding -F12 to the mkdosfs command fix the problem. The default F16 do
seem to work for <8M floppy image.
Thank you
