why i can not put my swap files in /dev?
I tried to create some swap files in /dev directory for my desktop.
the dd and mkswap were ok. but when I try to swapon it, i get this:
# swapon /dev/myswap
swapon: /dev/myswap: Invalid argument
but when I mv the file to some other directory like /mnt or /, the
swapon works.
could sb. tell me why?

AHC Panic
I've finally been able to capture the panic, as now it occurs even with DDB
configured. Of the six machines I have running 6.1-RC (CVSupped today),
this is the only one that does this.

Early-userspace and swapping
I just recently posted a patch to the linux-kernel mailing list to move
rootfs/initramfs from ramfs to tmpfs. Now I'd like to test this out better.
Currently I'm only using initramfs to store data so I'm new the this
klibc thing. Tommorrow I'm going to try to get klibc working to run
some programs in early-userspace. From what I've read so far, i'll need

vnconfig(8), bin/45754
Hello,
I am going to commit a patch below, it fixes several cases when
vnconfig(8) fails but returns zero exit status.
Are there any objections?

New User: Kudos, small/old platform, RPM Illegal Instruction
Hello All!
My 1st use of CentOS went well on my later eqpt. Thanks and congrats on
a good product.
Figured I might as well see if I could use it on some old stuff, still
good but obsolete.
Picked an AMD 5x86 (equivalent to a Pentium 75 MHz) and decided to see
if I could make it my gateway/router.
Had some difficulties, not unexpected. Old CD drive couldn't read the
CDs. No boot from CD

minor swap issue ....
.... I have a CentOS 5.n VM running on a Fedora 14 server/host,
installed using virt-manager, pretty plain vanilla. I use it to compile
binaries to run under RHEL/CentOS 5.n OS. I occasionally notice that
when the VM gets paged out by the server, it takes several minutes to
get it back in :-/ (see below).
On the host, logged in to a shell through a terminal window, this A.M.:

Debian DomU not properly mounting swap
I am running Xen 3.0.1 with Gentoo for Dom0 and when I create a DomU
with Debian, the kernel or system does not seem to recognize the volume
I have created for swap on the DomU and will not mount it during boot or
after.
here is the disk section of the xen config for the DomU:
disk = [ ''phy:xen-disks/disk-root,hda1,w'',''phy:xen-disks/disk-swap,hda2,w'' ]

[rfc] standalone kinit/resume
git mv resume.c resumelib.c and the addition of a minimal resume.c,
which calls resume() from resumelib produces a small standalone resume.
happy to hear feedback on the needed kinit/Kbuild changes.
resulting resume bin is small:
ls -l /usr/lib/klibc/bin/resume

it reduces busybox dependency of Debian initramfs-tools:

strange memory issues with CentOS 6.2 on VPS
Hi all,
today we've encountered quite strange issues with memory allocation on
one of our VPS running CentOS 6.2. So far I've been unable to determine
what's causing it - hopefully someone here will know what's up.
The VPS is a "small" machine - just 512MB of RAM, 1 CPU, running 6.2.
with current kernel (2.6.32-220.4.2.el6.x86_64, but I've tried the

Software RAID1 issue
When a new system CentOS-4.4 is built the swap partition is always
reversed...
Note md3 below, the raidtab is OK, I have tried various raid commands to
correct.
swapoff -a
raidstop /dev/md3
mkraid /dev/md3 --really-force
swapon -a
And then I get a proper ourput for /proc/mdstat,
but when I reboot /proc/mdstat again reads as below, with md3 [0] [1]
reversed.
[root]# cat /proc/mdstat

Attempting To Recover, really need suggestions
Hey all,
Had a power failure and subsequent ext3 disk corruptions. Attempting
to fix, but not working.
Its a 120 gig IDE disk, 3 partitions. /boot, /, and swap.
Basically can't boot up since the box can't get to the system files
in /usr/ or anything.
So I'm booting off of a FC2 disk 1 in recovery mode and trying to fix
the filesystem with e2fsck
The boot partition cleaned up

[PATCH] Fix swapon_label test
The swapon label test has a side-effect, in that it creates a new partition.
This causes the later failure of the list_partitions test.
This change causes the swapon_label test to scrub /dev/sdb after the test, and
then re-read the partition table.

swap labeling annoyance
I just upgraded a blade server via rsync from another server. Rebuilt the
initrd. It boots fine... except that it won't turn on the swap partition.
Several times, I've made sure swap was off, then mkswap -L SWAP-sda3
/dev/sda3, but when I do swapon -L SWAP-sda3, it complains it can't find
the device for the label.
The only thing I find while googling, other than redoing what I've

Swap space and hibernation on Centos 7
I just reinstalled Centos 7 on my Dell Inspiron 15 7570. This time I created a swap partitition that is 24 Gb in size since the machine has 16 Gb of memory. Still unable to hibernate with 'systemctl hibernate' which generates a message that a 'dependency on hibernate.target failed'.
Typing swapon -s or cat /proc/swaps I see:
/dev/dm-2 partititon 25161724 0 -1

Vinum crash, advice needed
I made an array out of 3 IBM 20 gigs and 3 Maxtor 20 gigs
I used striping to make one big drive
A couple of days ago I was copying a movie onto to it and the computer
decided to reboot
when it came back up I was greeted with this message
Can someone please tell me if I can recover some how? or should I just
rebuild the array? or is one of my disks physically bad?
