Stopping DRb after using BackgrounDRb::MiddleManDRbObject.init
Hi, I''m having a problem where connections started through BackgrounDRb::MiddleManDRbObject.init are not stopped, resulting in an ever growing established connections between my Mongrels and remote backgroundrbs I added DRb.stop_service to my code executed after requests that init MiddleManDRbObjects but that does not help. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert Bjarnason

Intermittent "can''t convert Float into Hash" and results.rb
Hi, I''m using backgroundrb 0.2.1 in a production environment and for most parts I''m very happy. We are using it to do some heavy video editing on the server side and it works great except that under, what seems heavy load the below problem happens intermittently. The problem has only happened 5 times out of over 500 runs by our backgroundrb worker. This is the code in our

Production RAILS_ENV / DB Selection
Hey all, I''m having some issues moving a project that incorporates Backgroundrb onto a staging server... For some reason (surely of my own doing), my RailsBase workers are insisting on using trying to access my development DB instead of my "production" DB. When I try to load a model object from within a worker, I get the following: 20061120-21:54:28 (26296)

Hi everyone, I''ve a class that try to spawn two workers, every 5 seconds. The code is something like: while true do MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :researches_worker,:job_key => :researches) MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :products_worker,:job_key => :products) sleep(5) end I''m using ":job_key", so if a worker hasn''t already ended its work

one more "uninitialized constant" problem
Hi everyone, I''m new to backgroundrb, and I''m trying to get started with a simple example, yet with no success. This is the code that I have in RAILS_ROOT/lib/workers/testing_worker.rb class TestingWorker < BackgrounDRb::Worker::RailsBase def do_work(args) # This method is called in it''s own new thread when you # call new worker. args is set

Trouble using backgroundrb
Hi all, I''m a newbie to backgroundrb and am having trouble integrating it into my rails-app. I''m using namespaces to differentiate between the parts of my app. When I want to create a new worker, it seems that it cannot find the worker object. Here''s my code: -------------------- controller app/passwd/index -------------------- class Passwd::IndexController <

Backgroundrb keeps spawning processes
Hi! I''ve just a created a really simple rails scheduled worker for backgroundrb to start playing with : class SessionCleanerWorker < BackgrounDRb::Worker::RailsBase def do_work(args) logger.info "SessionCleaner> started" CGI::Session::ActiveRecordStore::Session.destroy_all( [''updated_at <?'', 120.minutes.ago] )

Exception when doing DRb remote calls from a BackgrounDRb worker
Hello, I am trying to make DRb calls to a external server from a backgrounDRb worker, but I''m getting always the next exception when I make the remote call. > ERROR: > drbunix:///tmp/backgroundrb.11175/experimenter_worker_3e899de945f0803a82cd257cfac316d0_0_0.0738904928422051 > - #<Errno::ENOENT: No such file or directory - >

Getting results from a dead worker. example?
I''m having a little difficulty understanding how to retrieve results from deceased workers (from the documentation it seems that it is possible to do this). I pasted my simple test below. If anyone could point out what i should be doing differently i''d be very grateful. My test worker: class TestWorker < BackgrounDRb::Worker::RailsBase def do_work(args)

So, anyway...i will try it again: I have to prefix that I am far away from fully understanding the overall concept yet, and there?s no way to get some hints in the www so far, at least my resaerches dont lead to any helpfull stuff. image_controller.rb: def create MiddleMan.new_worker

:job_key acting weird?
Hi all I''m experiencing something strange with a :job_key, it took me a very long time to find out a worker wasn''t doing it''s job because of the name of my job_key. The first one I tried was :make_kohier, and with that name (and lot''s of other ones) I can''t get the worker to work. I do get my key in return, but the job doesn''t start

Thread Pool Size?
Hi All, It might be lack of sleep, but I am struggling to accurately limit our pool size. It seems like I can specify it on the server with the -s command line option and also on the client via the YAML pool_size. Is that right? Which one wins? Our problem is that we are getting about 40 threads on each backgroundrb box and it''s flooring our db and each bgrb box. We want around 8.

BackgrounDRb background task runner and Application Wide Context Store
Friends- I''m happy to annouce the first alpa release of BackgrounDRb. This is a small framework for managing long running background tasks that allows for ajax progress bars and more. It also serves as an Application wide cache and context store for when you need something like sessions but shared between users and multiple backend processes like fcgi''s or mongrels.

MiddleMan.worker blocks?
Hello - I am observing that calls to MiddleMan.worker return only after the worker has completed its work. This puzzles me, and I presume that I am doing something wrong. Can anyone make suggestions? Snippets from my code are: class ReportController < SecurityController ... def create_xml_report(report,start_time) constraints = get_constraints(report,start_time,false)

Darkice memory leak
ups, sorry for fuzzy description. I use "top" to watch the running processes. It updates every 5 seconds. I am running RedHat 7.2, download from one of Redhats mirros. Haven't installed any updates of Redhat 7.2. The box is a fresh PC with Amd Athlon 1700XP, 128MB, two SoundBlaster 16 PCI using OSS drivers. Any info missing? Darkice memory leak
Tried both the binary and compiling the src. Both leaking. It the setting suggested in "INSTALL.lame" didn't work and so I suspected the compiliation settings so I tried various settings. The compiler version is the one coming with RedHat 7.2 gcc3-3.0.1-3. Kristjan <p><p><p><p>-----Original Message----- From: owner-icecast@xiph.org
