Kernel panic with OCFS2 1.2.6 for EL5 (answer to multipath question)
Hello This is a bit off-topic, but here goes: Try installing the "device-mapper-multipath" package and follow the documentation below - residing at the powerlink.emc.com site: "Native Multipath Failover Based on DM-MPIO for v2.6.x Linux Kernel and EMC(r) Storage Arrays" When configured this works just as good as PowerPath. This works great on RHEL / CentOS 5 Daniel On

HA-OCFS2?
Is it possible to create a highly-available OCFS2 cluster (i.e., A storage cluster that mitigates the single point of failure [SPoF] created by storing an OCFS2 volume on a single LUN)? The OCFS2 Project Page makes this claim... > OCFS2 is a general-purpose shared-disk cluster file system for Linux capable of providing both high performance and high availability. ...but without backing-up

Max number of files in OCFS2 file system
Hi All, Please I would like to know what the maximum number of files (limit) is for an OCFS2 file system created on a x86_64 system with default options on a 900GB LUN. The system specs are listed below. It was noticed that at some point any attempt to create an additional file on the file system hangs the session and hangs accessto the file system as well. Attempts to start the application

Hints for a NFS-Setup
Hi everyone, as I have often trouble with OCFS2 I want to switch to NFS but I'm not sure how to rebuild my cluster with regard to locking and indexing problems. By now my I have a four server configuration (there are another 2 servers for outgoing mail but they can be ignored): MTA(MX10) --(lmtp/socket)--> local dovecot --> iSCSI-LUN with OCFS2 MTA(MX10) --(lmtp/socket)--> local

Free space oddities on OCFS2
Hi all, I'm testing OCFS2 as a cluster filesystem for a mail system based on maildir, so basically the filesystem must be able to deal with lots of directories, and lots of small files. The first "oddity", is that when I mount a newly formated ocfs2 fs, it already contains used space: [root@ocfs1 /]# df /cgp02 Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on

I want to mount a san lun with ocfs (windows) on another host, not containing oracle ocfs services, which are installed during crs install with oracle installer. Any ideas for an installation procedure from original oracle crs media or other sources ? Finally i want to use this to backup the ocfs containing lun on the other host with a backup product .... Thanks Helmar -- -------------- next

dovecot & OCFS2 Cluster
There is a bug in ocfs2 1.4 if you are using it you should be looking for upgrading to ocfs2 1.6 I have several performance problens with ocfs2 but now i guess the problem is the webmail client that we are using. I have several post here about it. I will write a new one as soon as i found the solution. Anyway, why use lmtp over lda ? My setup have about 5000 active acounts all in maildir.

LUN Aggregation
Greetings. Is there an approved way to aggregate LUNs when using OCFS2? I have several 1TB LUNs I'd like to make into a single filesystem. Would I use something like Linux software raid? Brett

How to implement HA and Live Migration with a SAN?
Hello, I''ve configured two xen hosts (dom0) sharing a LUN on a SAN. My firs obiective is to run different domU on the two hosts, and implement live migration between them. Subsequently, I''d like to implement HA, so if a xen host goes down, domUs will be restarted on the other one. What''s the better way to obtain this? I think I need a cluster file system to

OCFS2 / XEN / Snapshots
Guys, Trying to understand how I can use OCFS2 in our virtualization environment. Background: Running a Xen/KVM environment, several powerful servers with a 1TB FC Lun allocated. What would be the best way to do this? ocfs2 file system on the lun, and create xen images as .img files? How would we do snapshots? Right now we have lvm volumes we just assign to domUs, no FC.

A Billion Files on OCFS2 -- Best Practices?
We have an application that has many processing threads writing more than a billion files ranging from 2KB ? 50KB, with 50% under 8KB (currently there are 700 million files). The files are never deleted or modified ? they are written once, and read infrequently. The files are hashed so that they are evenly distributed across ~1,000,000 subdirectories up to 3 levels deep, with up to 1000 files

Kernel Panic, Server not coming back up
I have a relatively new test environment setup that is a little different from your typical scenario. This is my first time using OCFS2, but I believe it should work the way I have it setup. All of this is setup on VMWare virtual hosts. I have two front-end web servers and one backend administrative server. They all share 2 virtual hard drives within VMware (independent, persistent, &

CIFS Documentation
Hello, It would be a good idea to update the Documentation about CIFS: http://gluster.com/community/documentation/index.php/Gluster_3.2:_Exporting_Gluster_Volumes_Through_Samba When the simple truth is, that there is no CIFS Support in gluster itself - it should not be in the docs. As I found out, this was also suggested earlier: http://www.mail-archive.com/gluster-users at
