Cannot connect to cluster manager
Hi again, It seems that I have a problem again. When I startup the database, it has an error: ORA-29701: cannot connect to Cluster Manager. 1. I have started the the cluster manager, and ps -ef shows that watchdog and and oracm is running. 2. I've looked into the cm.log, and it seems that both nodes have registered successfully. Order of methods for optimx

RHEL 4 U2 / OCFS 1.2.1 weekly crash?
Hello, I have two nodes running the 2.6.9-22.0.2.ELsmp kernel and the OCFS2 1.2.1 RPMs. About once a week, one of the nodes crashes itself (self- fencing) and I get a full vmcore on my netdump server. The netdump log file shows the shared filesystem LUN (/dev/dm-6) did not respond within 12000ms. I have not changed the default heartbeat values in /etc/sysconfig/o2cb. There was no other IO

ext3 data=ordered - good enough for oracle?
Given that the default journaling mode of ext3 (i.e. ordered), does not guarantee write ordering after a crash, is this journaling mode safe enough to use for a database such as Oracle? Default disk I/O scheduler in linux guest
Hi, all, I just found out that xen assigns the NOOP disk scheduler for linux guest OSes. Dom0 uses cfq scheduler (it is the linux default). Is there a reason for xen to turn off disk request merging in the quest OS by selecting a NOOP scheduler? Is it because the request optimization will be performed in dom0 or VMM ? Oracle Instant Client 11g on CentOS 5 (32-bit) workaround

Finding i/o bottleneck
Hi list ! We have a very busy webserver hosted in a clustered environment where the document root and data is on a GFS2 partition off a fiber-attached disk array. Now on busy moments, I can see in htop, nmon that there is a fair percentage of cpu that is waiting for I/O. In nmon, I can spot that the most busy block device correspond to our gfs2 partition where many times, it shows that

Recommendations for kernel config
Hi, I'm building a test asterisk server and building the latest kernel I got to wonder if there are any specific recommendations about schedulers and so forth for optimum performance. Using RAC
Hello, I've successfully configured RAC on Redhat AS, with external firewire + ocfs. The whole process was done without any errors and have created the database. (Thanks to Wim Coekaerts useful article). But now, how do I actually use it? If I have a client making a connection, to which node do I connect? Are there also any recommended procedures to test RAC's capabilities? Thanks.

just fyi
remember that even tho you have a filesystem etc it's always good to have seperate partitions for stuff. eg don't put all your redologs and mirrors on the same partition or don't put your archives on the same partition as data. this is not just for ocfs, but just .. common sense I think to split stuff up.
