Placing multiple sound clips in a single file
Hello, I strongly recall mention of people storing multiple small sound clips in a single ogg vorbis file and then referencing them within the file, rather than having multiple small files. However, Google has failed to turn up anything posted about this. My friend is thinking of using this technique to cut down on the space the sounds take up in his games client. He is interested in

Splicing audio clips into one stream
Is there a Linux tool that will splice several gsm sound clips together into one clip? In my agi script, I would like to use 'get_data' with one clip instead of multiple 'stream_file' so the user doesn't have to listen to the entire spiel before responding. ActiveRecord does not close database connections?
I have an application that creates quite a few threads. I keep getting the "mysql too many connections" error. ActiveRecord does not close the connection once a thread had died out. To make things worse mysql has a wait_timeout variable that would basically kill off these connections for me, but there is a bug and I can not change the value of it. I have tried at least 10 different

Audio/video recording software
Hi everyone! :-) I am supposed to get (for the first time) into the world of making youtube clips. I have a webcam, a microphone and a big hard drive configured and ready. The question is: what would you suggest as an easy-to-use yum-installable app that could handle a couple of minutes/hours of recording? People who are about to use it are complete noobs, and I would like to give them a

Sharing of Directories & assigning group permissions to directories
Hi Everyone, This is a follow-up question on Samba. After doing rpm to reinstall the dependencies on libcups.so.2 and libssl.so.2. Samba went on fine. My question is regarding Client machines Win98 could not log on to the samba server. This gave me an error message --> The share name was not found. Be sure you typed it correctly. As far as I can remember I did the following on my samba box.

That way the client will get back the same out-of-tree symlink as it started with This is a lousy option for backups. The only way to get my original links back is to pull the restore through rsync. Restoring directly from the rsyncd server

How to Rip DVD and Convert video on OS X
Now portable devices can be seen everywhere. They don't take so much space and are easy to use. Many people use their devices such as iPod, iPhone, PSP, Mobile Phone, Zune, Creative Zen, iRiver, Sansa, etc. to be served as their DVD Players or Video players. But the first thing kept in mind is that most such devices can not support DVD and some other video formats. But it is not difficult,

size and quality of audio clips effect the playback??
Hi, I've been having issues with asterisk playing back recorded messages. They sound clear..but there are lots of breaks during playback (like its losing packets). I got top-end hardware and I'm on a killer network so its not that. I've talked over my SIP line using a regular telephone and it sounds great, so its not the VOIP provider. Asterisk is working great with no other

Active Record Query
A course has many lessons and a lesson has many topics. A topic can have a recipe or vice versa, a recipe has many topics (optional). I need to come up with the most efficient way of querying the database to find those topics belonging to a course (via lessons of course) which have a recipe (in other words recipe_id is not null for this topic record). Simple but challenging :) Thanks for your

review of video codecs
I appreciated the link to http://www.techimo.com/articles/index.pl?photo=33&SID=12&tag=SNnb323 although, as Freun said, it was "Not really all that informative,..." Is anyone aware of a site that has a downloadable video clip that was created for comparison purposes with different video codecs (MPEG 1, 2, 4, divx, Windows, Real, VP3, VP4, VP5, and so on)? Preferably, each
