Stopping DRb after using BackgrounDRb::MiddleManDRbObject.init
Hi, I''m having a problem where connections started through BackgrounDRb::MiddleManDRbObject.init are not stopped, resulting in an ever growing established connections between my Mongrels and remote backgroundrbs I added DRb.stop_service to my code executed after requests that init MiddleManDRbObjects but that does not help. Any ideas? Thanks, Robert Bjarnason

Greetings all, Unit tests are passing, but I''m having mucho problems getting brb to run without exceptions for more than 6 hours. Creating another database connection for large mysql import?
I''m using backgroundrb to periodically download a large file via ftp from a remote location and then import it into the database. To perform the import, I was using the following: ActiveRecord::Base.connection.execute(%{load data infile ...;}) although on a file with 2.5 million records, this can take 5 minutes, which seems to tie up my rails application while this executes (even

New worker not being created
I figured out that in the backgroundrb.yml, I had the old setting of making the database RAILS_ENV. It wasn''t a valid variable in backgroundrb 0.2.1, and it wasn''t reporting an error, so I had no idea. Once I changed it to ''development'' or ''production'', it started working. I found that if a worker has an error, it usually logs the error

BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 Release! Complete rewrite.
Hello Folks- I am really happy to announce the release of BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 . This is a complete rewrite and re-architecture of this codebase. I want to thank skaar for all of his hard work. I put out a call for help with the new architecture and skaar stepped up bigtime. I had already written the new scheduler and cron compatible syntax and moved to multi process architecture. But he

Neophyte needs help!
Hi All, Real neophyte here, to both backgroundrb and ruby/rails in general. (Hey, we''ve all got to start somewhere, right!) :) I''ve just been playing around with the example code at http://backgroundrb.rubyforge.org/ , and trying to get all the pieces to work (btw, I''m using version 0.2.1). I did a ''generate worker example'', which created an

looking for a worker that''s gone
In my app, I store the job key when a worker is fired off and then check back in periodically to see how its doing. The workers delete themselves when they''re done. I would expect when I try to get a worker that has been deleted, I would get nil or a proper exception, but instead I get: >> MiddleMan.worker(''foobar'') NoMethodError: undefined method

one more "uninitialized constant" problem
Hi everyone, I''m new to backgroundrb, and I''m trying to get started with a simple example, yet with no success. This is the code that I have in RAILS_ROOT/lib/workers/testing_worker.rb class TestingWorker < BackgrounDRb::Worker::RailsBase def do_work(args) # This method is called in it''s own new thread when you # call new worker. args is set

Scheduled worker dies after about 30-45 runs
I have a scheduled worker that runs every minute, checking for new eBay auctions to post. If it finds an auction, then it posts it. If there are no auctions in the database that are queued up, it simply does nothing. I got the worker to finally run as a scheduled worker, every minute. However, after about 30-45 scheduled runs, it simply stops running. My backgroundrb_schedules.yml file: ------

Unicorn doesn't play nice with Capistrano deployment?
I am having issues when using unicorn with a Capistrano deployment. >From what I have been able to understand Capistrano uses a scheme in wich every release is deployed inside the releases directory under a unique name and if the transaction was successful, creates a symlink named current that will point to that release. So I end up with a deployment directory such as:

rspec failure upon revisit
I just returned from a different project after taking a few weeks off of my tutorial. I''m using Ruby on Rails 3 Tutorial - Learn Rails by Example by Michael Hartl. After rebooting my server I ran an rspec spec/ command to check to see if there were any problems and this is what I received. I didn''t modify anything except I did overwrite users_controller.rb and

backgroundrb preview
Hi Ezra/skaar, Wow man, the exercise was worth it. The connection closed problem with socket as i mentioned in my earlier mails...completely disappeared, and now i can connect only once to the socket and keep reading..till end of its days. Literally impossible with older release of backgroundrb. This could also potentially solve the issues people were having with ActiveRecord. As i said

How To Create Database Tables With Merb 0.0.7?
Howdy, I just gem unpacked merb and have configured the sample_app to use an sqlite3 database. I see that the Rakefile has a task named "schema", but it points to /dist/schema/schema1.rb", which doesn''t exist. I copied /dist/schema/schema1.rb to /dist/schema/schema.rb then ran "rake schema". What''s the recommended way to create the database tables?

MiddleMan behavior
i found some questions and answers on mailing lists but there is still a problem - when i want to create new worker from within a worker - ::BackgrounDRb::MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :second_worker, :args => {:id=>2, :text=>"slave"}) works but when i want to get reference to that object: ::BackgrounDRb::MiddleMan.worker(@second) yields: NoMethodError: undefined
