Observations
Hi,
we have a 2 node / 3 node RAC installation with OCFS.
We have the following observations.
1. TIME STAMP Issue
We have noticed that the time stamp which is shown on the datafiles doesnt remain the same even after a shutdown normal /shutdown immediate
i.e If I shutdown all RAC instances ( A , B , C) using shutdown normal / immediate, the timestamp on the datafiles are not the same.

OCFS Database too slow
Hi All,
we are using Red Hat 2.1 Kernel e38 along with MSA 1000.
ocfs version being used is
$ rpm -qa | grep ocfs
ocfs-tools-1.0.10-1
ocfs-2.4.9-e-enterprise-1.0.12-1
ocfs-support-1.0.10-1
Database Version is 9.2.0.5
However we find that the performance of the database on OCFS is too slow. even a select count(1) from all_tables takes like a while to complete.
We initially assumed RAC is

i-node showing 100 % used whereas the partitionsare empty
Hi Sunil,
I had filed a bug and saw your response stating that it would be fixed in version 14.
In the meanwhile , what we want to know is whether this bug is a minor bug and can be ignored for now.
Does reporting 100% inodes cause any problem for the OCFS file system or can we ignore this bug and go into production.
Also can you tell us by when version 14 would be released.

Question about filesystem ownership
I've created a few OCFS filesystems (RHEL 3, OCFS 1.0.9-12) while
attempting to assign ownership by oracle:dba. I've done this both with
ocfstool and mkfs.ocfs. They both seem to accept the parameters, but the
resulting filesystem is always owned by root:root.
This is not a fatal problem, since we can just throw all of our
Oracle files into a properly-owned subdirectory in each

OCFS compatibility with Legato
Hi All
Does anyone have information on OCFS compatibility with Legato.
i.e Can we use Letato to backup directly from OCFS Volumes.
Also does OCFS work with BCV.

OCF2 and LVM
Does anybody knows if is there a certified procedure in to
backup a RAC DB 10.2.0.3 based on OCFS2 ,
via split mirror or snaphots technology ?
Using Linux LVM and OCFS2, does anybody knows if is
possible to dinamically extend an OCFS filesystem,
once the underlying LVM Volume has been extended ?
Thanks in advance

Follow up on async I/O question
A few weeks back we opened a TAR with Oracle support to determine
whether an OCFS (1.0.9-12) + async configuration was considered supportable.
At first a technician said yes, but I followed up with Wim's explanation of
how that combination is potentially troublesome and inadequately tested.
The technician double-checked, then confirmed that OCFS + async is
considered risky. He did say that a

FreeBSD Samba Binary Package
Hi,
The Samba URL http://us3.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/ does not seem
to have a FreeBSD binary package. I tried a web search but to no avail. I
have searched the samba list archives and i could not find any pointers
either. Any assistance would be most welcome
Thanks in Advance,

AW: OCFS 1.0.9-6 performance with EVA 6000 Storage
Hi all,
Sorry to break in, but I find this thread a bit interesting.
Jeram: I'm not very familiar with HP storage and cannot find too much info
on the EVA 6000 array. Is it related to the EVA 5000 somehow, or is it a NAS
array?
In any case, how is the array configured. If the algorithm for hartbeat is
as described earlier (36 sector reads and one write per second (per
host???)) then you

Wim,
The patch description on Metalink says:
DIRECT IO SUPPORT ON EXT2 FILESYSTEM
Which wasn't quite what I was expecting.

Unable to build RPMS for ocfs-tools-devel
RPM building of ocfs-tools appears to be broken. I think this is
because the DIST_FILES have not yet been completely updated for all the
changes.
Is anyone working on this?
I'll send in the stuff that I fix as I complete it.

Disappointing Performance Using 9i RAC with OCFS on Linux
Wim,
Thanks for your prompt response on this. The tpmC figures look very
impressive, and tpmC is read intensive.
I had already read note 236679.1 "Comparing Performance Between RAW IO
vs OCFS vs EXT2/3" which I guess is the article to which you are
referring; it made me suspect that the poor performance was due to the
lack of an OS IO cache but I wasn't sure.

OCFS Questions
Hi OCFS Gurus...
I have 2 questions for OCFS ver 1.0.10.1
1. What is the Maximum mount point suggested if we are using OCFS ?
2. Is there any method to tune the OCFS to booster the IO performance?
Awaiting ur responses...
Thanks in Advance...

OCFS - NFS
Hi,
well i mounted the OCFS drive over nfs, but it seems to have problems
with it, because the NFS does not detect changes (if I add or delete files)
the nfs shares still shows the old status. If i delete a file on the OCFS
volume, and i am doing a "ls" on one of the nfs clients, it says for every
file which was on the ocfs, "no such file or directory". Did I miss

Odd errors while mounting an OCFS filesystem
Hello again. I am setting up a new pair of servers to run RAC.
They're connected via fibre-channel to a hardware RAID array, and both are
able to see the exposed LUNs.
When I create an OCFS filesystem on one node with mkfs.ocfs, I can
mount it. When I try to mount from the other node, however, it fails.
After that, the filesystem is left in a state where neither node can mount
it. The

ENC: ENC: Unresolved Symbols on Uniprocessor Ker nel
Hi,
Is this "Unresolved Symbols" issue only occurring on VMware with e.38?
We have OCFS users want to update their kernel to e.34 or e.38 without
VMware.
Please advise, Thanks!
