Problems with OCFSTOOL after LUN Maintenance
In installing 10g\RAC we hit an issue that has been indentified as a bug
with CRS where the cluster locking files cannot be implemented under
OCFS. Supposedly they work fine when implemented as Raw Devices.
We needed to reclaim some space from existing LUN's to create the raw
devices as we had expected to able to put all Oracle related files under
OCFS (Yes, we belived the hype). This

Resize ocfs....?
I've tried several times to resize one of my ocfs volumes[see emcpowere1 below]
I'm on the latest [prod] version of ocfs/ocfs-tools as of 3pm EST on 18JUL04.
Per instructions...
Take down db, unmount all ocfs drives, use ' tuneocfs -F -S 100G /dev/emcpowere1 '
Supposedly this should work, but I get get....
The size specified, 100G, is larger than the device size, 59G.
Aborting.

Automatically mount at boot
My ocfs filesystems used to mount automatically at boot, but now I've
noticed that I have to do a mount -a after the boot up is completed to
mount them.
I've checked the init state to see that ocfs is enabled at run levels 3,
4, & 5
# chkconfig --list ocfs
ocfs 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
Nothing shows up in the /var/log/messages file that would

Ocfs and EMC Powerpath
A couple years ago, we moved to Oracle RAC on Linux using ocfs that is
SAN attached to an EMC CLARiiON. At the time, there was a reason that we
did NOT use EMC's Powerpath (I just can't recall what that reason was).
What I'd like to know is if there are any issues with introducing
Powerpath now.

regarding the extending OCFS partiton
Hi, Experts.
I'm Taisuke Gishi, the support engineer of Oracle Japan.
I would like to ask you the following questions about OCFS.
I think we can't extend OCFS partition ,is it correct ?
If it is correct,is there technical subject that is made not to extend
OCFS partition?
I would be greatful if you could provide me with now and future condition.
Thank you in advance for your attention.

Re: attaching storage pool error
Hi again!
Need to add here, since I been investigating a bit further, that it seems to be possible to add an NPIV vhba to the guest, using vdsm hooks. I've seen the reference to "host device assignments", which Dan pointed me too, but I didn't really understand the meaning of it at that moment.
It would be interesting to hear from someone that have been doing it, how it would

using CentOS as an iSCSI server?
Has anyone succesfully setup, and used CentOS as an iSCSI server? I'm
trying to setup a server with 4x500GB HDD's, setup in RAID 10 to act
as an iSCSI server for a virtualization project, but I can't find a
decent howto on how to setup an iSCSI server using CentOS.
I would like to setup something like Openfiler, but we also need todo
some other stuff that OpenFiler doesn't

Hi!
Report from my multipath tests today.
My test virtual machine, that runs from an NPIV pool, is not able to use multipath.
When I pulled the cable from one of the targets, it crashed.
But, strangely, it could boot up again on that other path, that it just crashed on.
That tells me it can use both paths, and is not limited to one of them only, but because the multipath layer isn't

HP SureStore 40x6e - Multiple LUN's problem on CentOS 4.4
This is one of those autoloaders where the tape drive and the library
share a SCSI ID, but are on different LUN's - specifically the library
should be on LUN 1. Apparently since so many devices like this are
broken, recent kernels don't probe beyond the first LUN, so it's not
detecting the library.
My /proc/scsi/scsi output:
Attached devices:

Missing SDLT600's
Hi All,
I have a CentOS5.2 server using a Qlogic QLE220 HBA, connected to
Quantum DX30 and M1800 libraries via a Qlogic SANbox 5600 switch. I've
installed the latest (v8.02.14) drivers from Qlogic for the HBA
The issue I have is I am missing 2 of the 4 SDLT drives provided by the
M1800 Library. The DX30 provides 6 drives, which are listed in dmesg
and assigned /dev/st0->5. I would

Disable specific LUN on a SCSI bus
Hi all,
do you know if there is a way at boot time do disable specific LUN's on a SCSI
bus of a particular controller?
I'm trying to write an udev rule, but it seems that the system ignores the
"vendor" model/name of the controller...
For example: I want to disable /dev/sdb; so I gather some information with
udevinfo -a -p /sys/block/sdb and I try to use them to write

using Linux as a front-end controller for a SAN?
Hi all,
I hope someone can shed some light on this for me. Has anyone tried,
or have experience with, setting up a Linux server to manage a few NAS
devices and thus make them all visible to the clients as one large
SAN?
Basically, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to combine the current
NAS's we have into one large system (typically a SAN?) and then let
the clients all connect to one

But ever since the beginning the ocfs drives mounted on boot.

Samba slowness serving SAN-based GFS2 filesystems
Ok,
I'm experiencing slowness serving SAN-based GFS2 filesystems (of a specific
SAN configuration).
Here's my layout:
I have a server cluster.
OS= RHEL 5.4 (both nodes...)
kernel= 2.6.18-194.11.3.el5
Samba= samba-3.0.33-3.14.el5
*On this cluster are 6 GFS2 Clustered filesystems.
*4 of these volumes belong to one huge LUN (1.8 TB), spanning 8 disks. The
other 2 remaining volumes are 1

libvirt and shared storage SAN Fiber Channel
Hi,
I'm looking information about using libvirt with san (fiber channel)
based storage and googling for a while i don't see anything about it.
I send this email in order to get advices about libvirt and shared storage
We use here, for 3 years now, 8 linux centos server connected to an
hitachi FC SAN (multipath devices).
Each server run Xen dom0 and use SAN LUNs to store Virtual machine

gencache.tdb growing and growing and...
Is it normal that the gencache.tdb should grow and grow “forever” and fill up with “RA/<hex>” posts?
I’ve been investigating why our Samba 4.7.3 servers (happened with older version 4 servers too) would use such insane amounts of memory on our FreeBSD 11.1 servers (we see smbd processes using hundreds of megabytes of RAM and up to 5GB virtual memory).
Anyway, one part that seems to use

Sparse LUN's
Hi All,
I've been chasing down a problem with LUN masking on CentOS5/RHEL5 hosts
with QLogic HBA's for a few hours and seem to have got to an impass;
Any device (disks in my case) on Non-sequential LUN's are not registered
with the OS. This happens across various HBA models and kernel
versions. FYI, I'm currently running the latest qlogic qla2xxx drivers
(8.02.14.01) against

I saw this last week while I was at KVM Forum, but just haven't had the
time until now to start thinking about this stuff again ... as you point
out with your questions and replies - NPIV/vHBA is tricky and
complicated... I always have try to "clear the decks" of anything else
