Fwd: RE: OCFS Hang
Oh yeah - easy way to check, Randy:
Next time your node hangs, get on the OTHER NODE and go into each
directory where files are being opened (datafiles, archivelogs,
controlefiles, redo logs, etc) and delete a file (you can create one
first then delete it). If this causes the hung node to recover then
you're having the same problem I was having.

cp --o_direct
Another question.
When my database is running, I do
[oracle@LNCSTRTLDB03 LPTE3]$ cp --o_direct xdb01.dbf /tmp
cp: cannot open `xdb01.dbf' for reading: Permission denied
[oracle@LNCSTRTLDB03 LPTE3]$
When the database is shudown it works.
Is this normal for ocfs because with any other filesystem I can just
copy a file at any time (Its only a testing, I know I cant copy
datafiles and have

Lock contention issue with ocfs
I am still having this weird problem with nodes hanging while I'm
running OCFS. I'm using OCFS 1.0.9-12 and RHAS 2.1
I've been working on tracking it down and here's what I've got so far:
1. I create a file from node 0. This succeeds; I can /bin/cat the
file, append, edit, or whatever.
2. From node 1, I do an operation that accesses the DirNode (e.g.
/bin/ls)
3. Node 0

problem with OCFS label
I used this command to create volume label on OCFS:
mkfs.ocfs -F -b 128 -L data13 -m /oradata/data13 -u oracle -g dba -p 0775 /dev/emcpowerp1
emcpowerp is composed of /dev/sdad and /dev/sdk. It seems the above command created the same labels for /dev/emcpowerp1, /dev/sdad1 and /dev/sdk1.
But when I tried to mount this ocfs filesystem by label, it gave me the following error.
# mount -L data13

Resize ocfs....?
I've tried several times to resize one of my ocfs volumes[see emcpowere1 below]
I'm on the latest [prod] version of ocfs/ocfs-tools as of 3pm EST on 18JUL04.
Per instructions...
Take down db, unmount all ocfs drives, use ' tuneocfs -F -S 100G /dev/emcpowere1 '
Supposedly this should work, but I get get....
The size specified, 100G, is larger than the device size, 59G.
Aborting.

OCFS2 and ASM Question
Ok guys & gals here is the scenario:

OCFS file system used as archived redo destination is corrupted
we started using an ocfs file system about 4 months ago as the shared archived redo destination for the 4-node rac instances (HP dl380, msa1000, RH AS 2.1) . last night we are seeing some weird behavior, and my guess is the inode directory in the file system is getting corrupted. I've always had a bad feeling about OCFS not being very robust at handling constant file creation and deletion

Regarding debugocfs
Hi experts,
My customer issued debugocfs to check for file_size and extent info
but values such as file_size, alloc_size, next_free_ext were 0.

Since then I've upgraded the OCFS and a few other pkgs.
But ever since the beginning the ocfs drives mounted on boot.

ocfs doesn't free space?
an ocfs-volume was nearly full (only 800MB free). i deleted some
datafiles to free space:
$ df -h .
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sdp1 10G 5.3G 4.8G 53% /db/DPS
so there are more than 4GB available.

RHE L3 -- OCFS 1.0.9-12 and 1.0.12
Running database in ASYNC mode in RHEL 3 has a potential risk of redo logs failure due to some short io's.
A note from
http://oss.oracle.com/projects/ocfs/dist/files/RedHat/RHEL3/i386/README.txt
says that the above mentioned problem is fixed in OCFS 1.0.9-12
"RELEASE 1.0.9-12

A couple more minor questions about OCFS and RHE L3
Sort of a followup...
We've been running OCFS in sync mode for a little over a month now,
and it has worked reasonably well. Performance is still a bit spotty, but
we're told that the next kernel update for RHEL3 should improve the
situation. We might eventually move to Polyserve's cluster filesystem for
its multipathing capability and potentially better performance, but at least

Cannot delete directories
Running ocfs v 1.0.9-PROD12 on RHAS 2.1, kernel 2.4.9-e.25smp.
I have (what look to ls and rm) as empty directories. But when I try to
rmdir, returns "Directory not empty". This has gone through a reboot
(several actually). Any ideas what I can do?
