Intermittent "can''t convert Float into Hash" and results.rb
Hi, I''m using backgroundrb 0.2.1 in a production environment and for most parts I''m very happy. We are using it to do some heavy video editing on the server side and it works great except that under, what seems heavy load the below problem happens intermittently. The problem has only happened 5 times out of over 500 runs by our backgroundrb worker. This is the code in our

grid control example doesn''t work on osx.4
Hi, I am trying to use wxruby2-preview (0.0.38) on my intel macbook running os10.4.8. I am having a beast of a time running the examples in the tutorials. The super basic frame example worked but the simple grid tutorial bombs with the following message: ------ [WhiteGhost:~/tmp/wxStff] hjw$ ruby ./grid.rb /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/wxruby2-preview-0.0.38-i686-

First call to worker method doesn''t work

ActionMailer doesn''t work in backgroundrb
I am pretty confident that mailers do not work in backgroundrb. Can anyone confirm this? Because when I try to do Notifier.deliver_some_method I get an error saying it cant find the templates for my email. The funny thing is that when I run script/ runner Notifier.deliver_some_method it works just fine. Any ideas? Thank You, Ben Johnson E: bjohnson at contuitive.com O: 800-341-6826 M:

repeat_every doesn''t tie in with first_run...
Ezra, Sorry for inundating the list. In using the autostart, repeat_every, and first_run, I noticed a behaviour I didn''t expect. I would like the job to run starting at 2am, and then every 24 hours. So I set first_run to Time.now.beginning_of_day + 2.hours, and repeat_every to 24.hours. The problem is if backgroundrb starts up at 6am (due to a code change or server bump), then the

Noob needs help installing backgroundrb on Windows XP
Hey Guys, In the readme for Backgroundrb it says that windows support has been depcreated for this version, but then it goes on to mention how to use it in Windows. So I''m not sure if it should be running on windows or not, so I''ll ask anyway. Also, I''m new to ruby and I''m also new to server administration, so I apologize if my questions are pretty

delete_worker doesn''t kill the thread?
I made a worker that run an infinite loop and does the following: while true @logger << "logging #{Time.now}" sleep 2 end In my secong console I did: tail log/backgroundrb.log -f This is so I could see the line getting added to the log every 2 seconds. Then in my other console I started script/console and created a new worker. Then killed it with

Plugins: svn externals vs. local repository
...or, what is the best practise for ensuring that capistrano gets plugin code to the production server? Do you hook up your plugins to the originating repository (thereby automatically picking up changes to the plugin), or check them into your application''s repo and use "script/plugin update" to keep plugins fresh? Does that method mess with your .svn directories? thanks for

Logging doesn''t work
Sorry for perhaps asking a Newbie-Question, but couldn''t find any answer elsewhere (and even not in the archieves...). Trying to import files in my rails app using backgroundrb and trying to examine the backgroundrb.log file. But it isn''t updated. The pid-file is updated to the correct value every time I start drb. I''m working on an windows-machine (XP Prof). Tried to

loading C extension in worker causes bus error on OS X only
In all likelihood, this doesn''t have anything to do with backgroundrb, but I''m stuck so I thought someone might be able to help. I have a pretty simple C extension that I built into a gem and have installed on my system. It works fine when required from rails (1.2.1). But when I have a Backgroundrb worker class use the extension (under os x), I get:

struggling with stability
Greetings all, Unit tests are passing, but I''m having mucho problems getting brb to run without exceptions for more than 6 hours. I''m seeing a mixture of the following 2 exceptions: 20070605-11:26:56 (21497) failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError) 20070605-11:26:56 (21497) /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/ slave-1.2.1/lib/slave.rb:435:in `initialize''

thread pool
Hi, I am trying to limit the number of worker threads running at the same time. Adding ":poolsize: 2" to backgroundrb.yml or starting backgroundrb server like this script/backgroundrb start -- -s 2 does not seem to help. I can still create more than 2 worker threads from a rails app. I tried this on ubuntu dapper - ruby 1.8.4 - backgroundrb 0.2.1 as well as

Backgroundrb spiking CPU after first run on Mongrel cluster
I''ve been troubleshooting this problem for several hours now and haven''t been able to figure out what''s wrong. I have two boxes, dev and prod, both are identical except that prod uses Ruby 1.8.5 and dev uses 1.8.4. Both are running Slave 1.2.0, Daemons 1.0.5, and Backroundrb 0.2.1. The behavior I''m seeing is this. When I first start Backgroundrb, this is what

pre-release version of backgroundrb available now from svn
Hi, A pre-release version of backgroundrb is available now from svn. Download it from here: http://svn.devjavu.com/backgroundrb/branches/version099/ Since this release marks significant migration from existing practices, i intend to keep trunk untouched for a while. There are no install scripts, but you should copy "backgroundrb" file from script directory of plugin to script

schedule support on latest svn, a question
I''m running the latest backgroundrb mainly for scheduled tasks support. As per the documentation I created the backgroundrb_schedules.yml with the following: simple_label: :class: :document_sorter_worker :worker_method: :do_work :job: :bleh :trigger_args: :start: <%= Time.now + 5.seconds %> :end: <%= Time.now + 10.minutes :repeat_interval: 1.minute Under
