decTOP - Centos install fails but DSL frugal install worked
I got 4 of those decTOPs (http://www.dataevolution.com/dectop%20info%202.htm) and upgraded the memory to 512Mb. I cannot get Centos 5.0 to install. I have the keyboard mouse attached to an ATEN USB-PS/2 adapter (probably should try without this). I have a USB DVD/CDRW drive. The install CD boots just fine. But then the install says, "No CD" and takes me to Askmethods. So I use

Samba out of the box ?
I have been looking at the FreeNAS and OpenFiler distros which install Samba in addition to other services, and then provide a simple web interface to set up and maintain the system. I can see the benefit of having a team of people that do the work setting up the various services on a particular operating system (and presumably testing it on different hardware), and then providing it to the

Samba/LDAP appliance recommendation
Hi all, What's a good Samba+LDAP appliance these days for a small business? Currently I used a stock Ubuntu server and did all Samda/LDAP configuration manually. I'm looking for something that can allow my regular staff to use as well. 1. I tried most of the popular NAS distros, like FreeNAS, NAS4Free, OpenmediaVault, etc. Most of these NAS don't have an LDAP server built-in 2. I

getcifsacl does not work with CIFS mount versions 2 or 3
Hi When I mount CIFS share (mount -t cids) with vers=1.0 I can perform getcifsacl sucessfully. But when I mount with vers=2.0, or 2.1, or 3.0, ACL reading fails. getxattr error: 95 REVISION:0x0 CONTROL:0x0 Why getcifsacl depends on SMB protocol version? Can I read ACL via newer SMB protocol? A asked on Serverfault but without reply:

Cifs permission for mac guests
Hi, I have a FreeNAS server with a cifs share, accessible by all the lan users (guest access) Every one can access it and write in it. When Mac OSX users are creating a file or a folder, they write it with the following permissions : rwxr-xr-x Rhis only happen with mac users. So the other users can't modify or delete theses files/folders. How to configure my share if I want that all the

OT: Recommendations for a virtual storage server
Hi all, I need to install a virtual machine acting as a virtual storage server under CentOS 5.x (using kvm, xen, virtualbox or vmware). This virtual storage machine needs to server storage to another ESXi server and at the same time to the host where is installed. This is due to the limitations of hardware I have available. Both hosts needs to server several machines. It is very

Open Source NAS/NFS solution
Hi Has anyone got any ideas on a nfs/nas appliance that i can install on x86 hardware with a few JBOD shelves attached to it. I would like an appliance like install and based on CentOS would be great. I really like the look of www.openfiler.com but it seems to be only in RC release stage so i don't think the 'boss' would like that idea. thanks

timeout after inactivity on mount.cifs
Hi Ivan, Not sure if you have found a solution or not since your post was back in February, but I thought I'd reply as this is the only thread I could find anywhere that mentions a problem that I was having on a recent installation of Arch Linux. A few minutes after boot all of my CIFS/Samba mounts would go offline and I'd get an error "The host is down." But I could unmount

openfiler (was: using CentOS as an iSCSI server?)
> Simple, it's only a NAS device, and not really a file server / web > server / data base server as well. Here is something I am currently lokoing at, and wondering if you'd considered it or if anyone here has done it. I've got a bunch of existing hardware - really good IBM stuff that is all installed with CentOS (with a few exceptions). We want to move to virtualization, but

HELP - RAC Cant fsck bad superblock
Hi All I just installed a 2 node ,10 r2 rac on centos Linux 4.6 My rac install was done by following Jeff Hunters document (excellent work!) http://www.idevelopment.info/ For storage I used openfiler with the iscsi protocol http://www.openfiler.com/ everything went perfect... to the letter, I gracefully shutdown the 2 nodes , then the openfiler appliance, when I went to start it back up,

Openfiler question - fiber channel?
Hey folks, I don't seem to be able to get a response from the openfiler forums (and they want 40 quid for the fine manual!), and since there has been a lot of chat about it here lately, I figured I'd ask here. Please forgive my terminology as I am just making my first baby steps into iSCSI and Fiber Channel, and am not very well read on the matters. So I could be using the wrong terms

Issues with iSCSI, Hosts Crashing
Two questions (and then a bonus one), kind of interrelated, but, first, some basic info. I'm using OCFS2 on OpenSUSE 10.2, kernel 2.6.18.8(-0.7). There are three nodes in the OCFS2 cluster, backed by Openfiler iSCSI storage. First, I'm using Openfiler and iSCSI volumes to back my OCFS2 file system. The nodes that are part of the OCFS2 cluster use the file system as a shared storage

1 TByte (99,5%) data missing on rsync backup???
Hi, I have a weird problem with RSync: On a NAS are about 1,2 TB data. When I plug in a harddisk and make a backup with RSync, "df -h" shows the backup disk filling up to nearly 1,2 TB. But after RSync has finished, there are only 3.7 GB on the backup disk. System: Linux nas 2.6.37-gentoo-r4 #1 SMP Tue May 3 19:54:31 CEST 2011 x86_64 Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU 330 @ 1.60GHz GenuineIntel

Thanks. As mentioned, deadtime can't be set for snmp-ups. You see this in the logs. Mar 31 09:08:30 freenas notifier: Fatal error: 'DEADTIME' is not a valid variable name for this driver. Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
Hello everyone, I''m quite a newbie with Xen and I''m currently having an issue. I run Xen 4 on Debian Squeeze x64 and I''m trying to build an OpenFiler DomU from the Xen domU filesystem tarbal they provide (See http://www.openfiler.com/community/download/). I downloaded the tarball and run ''tar xzpvf /root/soft/openfiler-2.3-x86_64.tar.gz'' to extract
