A "Wizard" for Initial Gluster Configuration
Hi,
I'm writing a tool to simplify the initial configuration of a cluster, and it's now in a state that I find useful.
Obviously the code is on the forge and can be found at https://forge.gluster.org/gluster-deploy
If your interested in what it does, but don't have the time to look at the code I've uploaded a video to youtube

Gluster Community Congratulates OpenStack Developers on Havana Release
The Gluster Community would like to congratulate the OpenStack Foundation and developers on the Havana release. With performance-boosting enhancements for OpenStack Block Storage (Cinder), Compute (Nova) and Image Service (Glance), as well as a native template language for OpenStack Orchestration (Heat), the OpenStack Havana release points the way to continued momentum for the OpenStack community.

Gluster Server upgrade from 3.5 to 3.8 in online upgrade mode
Thanks for your reply.
So the way I understand is that it can be upgraded but with a downtime,
which means that there are no clients writing to this gluster volume, as
the volume is stopped.
But post a upgrade we will still have the data on the gluster volume
that we had before the upgrade(but with downtime).

gluster-rest, a RESTful web api server for gluster
Hey everyone,
I did a quick hack in go about a month ago and gluster-rest was the
outcome. You can find it at https://github.com/kshlm/gluster-rest
The program is basically a wrapper around the gluster cli. It translates
incoming requests to the correct gluster cli command, executes the cli
command with the '--xml' parameter to get xml output and returns the xml
document.
For eg,

Are there any issues connecting a Gluster client v3.7.6 to a Gluster server v3.5.6?
We have been running several Gluster servers using version 3.5.6 for some
time now without issue. We also have several clients running version 3.5.2
without issue. But as soon as we added more clients running version 3.7.6,
we've been running into problems where one directory with hundreds of
thousands of images just hangs and is unresponsive. Are there any
incompatibility issues in this

Failover problems with gluster 3.8.8-1 (latest Debian stable)
Hi,
Have you checked for any file system errors on the brick mount point?
I once was facing weird io errors and xfs_repair fixed the issue.
What about the heal? Does it report any pending heals?

Gluster client version vs gluster server
Hi all
I have a RHEL machine with gluster 7.9 installed, which is the one from EPEL. Also, I have a set of debian machines running glusterfs server/cluster with version 9.3. Is it likely to work well with this combination or should everything be the same version? That might be a bit hard across distros. Also, RHEL just sells gluster, since it's such a nice feature so they find it hard to not

question about gluster 3.0.4 and gluster-fuse (latest) on 2 centos 5.4 servers
Hello,
I am running 2 servers with CentoS 5.4 32 bit with 1 GB memory and 2
Xeon 3,4 Ghz cpu's.
Both are server and client.
Gluster 3.0.4 source is used and the latest fuse from glusterfs.
I put the Qmail maildir on the gluster mount.
I notices that IMAP connections are really slow and see a lot of gluster
load whenever I receive a mail or send an email.
This is my glusterfsd.vol on both

[ovirt-users] Gluster problems, cluster performance issues
Do you see errors reported in the mount logs for the volume? If so, could
you attach the logs?
Any issues with your underlying disks. Can you also attach output of volume
profiling?

Gluster Server upgrade from 3.5 to 3.8 in online upgrade mode
Nope, not gonna work... I could never go even from 3.6. to 3.7 without
downtime cause of the settings change, see:
http://lists.gluster.org/pipermail/gluster-users.old/2015-September/023470.html
Even when changing options in the older 3.6.x I had installed, my new
3.7.x server would not connect, so had to pretty much stop gluster in
all servers, update to 3.7.x offline, then start gluster and

Gluster Server upgrade from 3.5 to 3.8 in online upgrade mode
I was looking to upgrade Gluster server from ver 3.5.X to 3.8.X.
I have already tried it in offline upgrade mode and that works, I am
interested in knowing if this upgrade of gluster server version can be
in online upgrade mode.
Many thanks in advance.

Xen issues with Gluster
Trying to get Xen working with Gluster. I understand you need
--disable-direct-io-mode, however that cuts my disk I/O from 130 MB/s to
only 22 MB/s.
Also when I try to use xen with tap:aio, but only get to Creating root
device.

Is there any performance impact in setting up every gluster client as a NFS server?
Hi,
We have around 60 hosts and each of them acts as glusterFs clients as well
as server.
To achieve HA, my underatanding is that we can use Ganesha NFS alone (and
not Kernel NFS) and for above 3.10 versions, the HA packages are not ready
yet.
So, I'm thinking if I can avoid HA by making each client acts as server for
itself.
i.e.,the server name specified while mounting is localhost.
So,

Is there any performance impact in setting up every gluster client as a NFS server?
Hi,
What I meant was that every host acts as nfs server for itself alone. A is
mounted on A, B is mounted on B etc. So, if a host is crashed or storage of
the host is not available, other hosts won't be affected.
And how bad can be the performance overhead in having multiple nfs servers?
Regards,
Jeevan.

Stopping glusterd service doesn't bring down any other services than
glusterd process.

Failover problems with gluster 3.8.8-1 (latest Debian stable)
Well, it looks like I've stumped the list, so I did a bit of additional
digging myself:
azathoth replicates with yog-sothoth, so I compared their brick
directories. `ls -R /var/local/brick0/data | md5sum` gives the same
result on both servers, so the filenames are identical in both bricks.
However, `du -s /var/local/brick0/data` shows that azathoth has about 3G
more data (445G vs 442G) than
