Neophyte needs help!
Hi All, Real neophyte here, to both backgroundrb and ruby/rails in general. (Hey, we''ve all got to start somewhere, right!) :) I''ve just been playing around with the example code at http://backgroundrb.rubyforge.org/ , and trying to get all the pieces to work (btw, I''m using version 0.2.1). I did a ''generate worker example'', which created an

typo in the README?
In the section under "Trigger" it says: The plain trigger takes three arguments: > > | :start => time, :end => time, :interval => seconds > > If the end argument is omitted, the event will trigger at the interval as > long as the server is running. > Shouldn''t it be :repeat_interval? Everything below it in both the backgroundrb_schedules.yml and

new BackgroundRB
Hey Greg- Yes I am sorry, the new architecture uses fork and named pipes and a bunch of unix stuff to do its magick. Now you may be able to port it to qwork on windows, but I don''t think it is possible :( I''m really sorry about this but I need this thing to be as robust and solid as it can be and in the end windows isn''t compatible. Now you may be able to

extending rails via /lib - problems
I wanted to group some functions which I use in some models in one place. Controllers have application.rb and views have helpers but I couldn''t find anything about models. Using the /lib directory seemed to be the only way. Alright... so I have something like this: /lib/code.rb class ActiveRecord::Base def method_a(n) ....... end def method_b(n) ........ end end

How to get a facebook session for desktop applications (or unit tests?)
Normally, in a rails app, all one would have to do is call set_facebook_session, or the ensure_* filters to get a valid session. I''ve been looking through the sessions code to figure out how to get a valid session for desktop applications (or unit tests)--basically outside of rails controller. As far as I can ascertain, you should just be able to do this: require

Living Dangerously?
how can I get the benefits of integration testing with Rspec on Rails REL_0_6_3, please? When I first started playing with Rspec on Rails, I hacked spec_helper.rb to include the IntegrationTest interface (diff below) as it was the minimum change I could make to get the the ability to run multiple actions across controllers in my spec. I use it to specify authenticated sessions and stuff.

BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 Release! Complete rewrite.
Hello Folks- I am really happy to announce the release of BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 . This is a complete rewrite and re-architecture of this codebase. I want to thank skaar for all of his hard work. I put out a call for help with the new architecture and skaar stepped up bigtime. I had already written the new scheduler and cron compatible syntax and moved to multi process architecture. But he

one more "uninitialized constant" problem
Hi everyone, I''m new to backgroundrb, and I''m trying to get started with a simple example, yet with no success. This is the code that I have in RAILS_ROOT/lib/workers/testing_worker.rb class TestingWorker < BackgrounDRb::Worker::RailsBase def do_work(args) # This method is called in it''s own new thread when you # call new worker. args is set

routing problem with controllers in other dirs
Hi all I have a problem with mapping url to controller which is deeper in controller directory (not root directory). I wanted to move acts_as_authenticated account_controller deeper to directory (let''s call it Foo) and route it as /Foo/Account, but i always seem to get exception that no route matched my request file structure: /app +- /controllers +- /Foo +-

anyway to exclude logging for a given IP address?
Hi, im not sure if this is a mongrel or rails question, so im sorry if I got the wrong list. Is there anyway to turn off logging (in production.log) if a request comes from a given IP address. I use monit to watch everything, and I get tons of this in my log file: Processing AccountController#login (for 127.0.0.1 at 2007-07-31 14:06:28) [GET] Session ID: XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

1 error(s) on assignment of multiparameter attributes
I am trying to create a form for processing credit cards. For the credit card expiration date, I would like to leave the day field out of the form for obvious reasons. However, the following code is producing an error for me. Any ideas? Thanks! <p><label for="email">Expiration</label><br/> <input type="hidden" id="user_card_expiration_3i"

Still living dangerously
5 seconds after my last post, I twigged why a call to FeedbackController.new would return an AccountController - the IntegrationTest must intercept the call and sure enough it does: action_controller/integration,rb: 315-339 and rdebug shows that this is indeed the cause. I still don''t see how the intercept is established - I can''t see where the call to extend
