periodic scheduling
I''ve been using backgroundrb since back in March 2007 or so. It''s been working mostly OK for me, but since the old version doesn''t seem to work out of the box with rails 2.0 for me, I decided to test out the latest version. So, I''m looking at the scheduling, and trying to figure out the best option for what I want to do. What I have is a set of workers that

worker starting twice
Hi gang, Thanks to other help I''ve gotten on this list, I''ve got backgroundrb up and running using postgres alongside my rails app. I''ve designed the system to have several eternally-running workers that periodically poll the database to see if there''s any work for them to do, and set things up in the config file to make them restart quickly if any of them

backgroundrb launches concurrent instances of same job
Hi there, Backgroundrb is working pretty well for me but I have a job that launches two of the same job, apparently a minute(?) apart from each other. Should this be happening if I have repeat interval enabled with a job_key? It seems like it should wait until the job is finished before launching a new instance. --Backgroundrb_schedules.yml-- city_updater: :class: :city_updater_worker

nil object / slave server problem
I''m just getting started wtih backgroundrb, and unfortunately hit a snag right away... I''m running the latest releases of rails, backgroundrb, slave and daemons. I created a simple worker class, using the generator, which currently does nothing but print the arguments that are passed to do_work. I''m running backgroundrb using ''./script/backgroundrb

backgroundrb preview
Hi Ezra/skaar, Wow man, the exercise was worth it. The connection closed problem with socket as i mentioned in my earlier mails...completely disappeared, and now i can connect only once to the socket and keep reading..till end of its days. Literally impossible with older release of backgroundrb. This could also potentially solve the issues people were having with ActiveRecord. As i said

Need help with singleton worker
We have a fairly expensive task that we''d rather not schedule too many instances of in parallel. Couldn''t get pool_size to limit the amount of workers, and I figure that''s hardly optimal anyway, so would like to have the work queued up for a single named worker instead, running as soon as possible. Using MiddleMan.schedule_worker() with :job_key does start off a

best approach to managing workers and getting status
Hi, I am using backgroundrb to process audio files from a rails controller. Currently a new worker gets created every time the method is called on the worker, using this code: @job_key = MiddleMan.new_worker(:worker => :audio_file_worker, :job_key => Time.now.to_i) MiddleMan.worker(:audio_file_worker, @job_key).make_new_audio_file(params[:release_id]) I need to create the new

start a worker when bdrb starts
I am sure..again I am missing something, but I am trying to start a worker, when backgroundrb starts and it doesn''t seem to work. Here is my config/backgroundrb_schedules.yml file: feed_worker: class: feed_worker job_key: feed_worker_key worker_method: do_work trigger_args: repeat_interval: 20.minutes I even tried this from Rails controller: # def start_feed_worker #

Cannot connect when spawning new workers on demand
Hi! I''m using the latest&greatest backgroundrb with rails 2.0.2 on ubuntu dapper. I''ve made an app that lets you run a query on several servers at once, which are selected at runtime. Therefore, for each server that is selected, I spawn a new worker and assign its work. After everything is completed, the workers are deleted. I often get this error:

getting started
Hey all, Been reading through all the old posts (and the docs) to familiarize myself but I still feel a bit lost. I''m on trunk and am having a bit of a hard time knowing where to start with the particular I''m trying to solve. So far, I''ve downloaded backgroundrb, done the basic rails setup, created my worker and started it using `script/backgroundrb start`.

BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 Release! Complete rewrite.
Hello Folks- I am really happy to announce the release of BackgrounDRb 0.2.0 . This is a complete rewrite and re-architecture of this codebase. I want to thank skaar for all of his hard work. I put out a call for help with the new architecture and skaar stepped up bigtime. I had already written the new scheduler and cron compatible syntax and moved to multi process architecture. But he

Trouble using backgroundrb
Hi all, I''m a newbie to backgroundrb and am having trouble integrating it into my rails-app. I''m using namespaces to differentiate between the parts of my app. When I want to create a new worker, it seems that it cannot find the worker object. Here''s my code: -------------------- controller app/passwd/index -------------------- class Passwd::IndexController <

State of backgroundrb (dupe?)
Hi, pardon if this is a duplicate mail, I forgot to click the subscription link the first time around. I''ve been using backgroundrb for a while now (older version) and I''ve had so many headaches because of it that I began looking for a replacement technology. And then I saw the new and shiny backgroundrb website, looking good! Initially I used the version maintained by

''uninitialized constant'' error
Hi All, I am fairly new to Ruby and backgroundRB. I am trying to run a simple example in Windows to get my feet wet with backgroundRB and am running into an ''uninitialized constant'' error when I invoke the controller on my rails app. In ''MyTest'' Controller ------------------- def longrun session[:job_key] = MiddleMan.new_worker(:class =>

backgroundrb and autotest
Hi, First, thanks for the plugin. Sorry if this is not strictly a backgroundrb issue but I thought others on this list might have come across this problem. I''m trying to run the test that comes via the worker generator. The test works fine when running ''rake test_functional'', but when the tests are run by autotest I get "uninitialized constant BackgrounDRb"

cron like behaviour?
Hi I have previously used railscron for server-side manipulation of the database but had a heap of trouble working with it. BackgrounDRB was suggested to me by a friend. I upload some files via acts_as_attachment and these go lie in a dir structure that i desire. What I want from the background process is to periodically (not user initiated) do some file-structure manipulation i.e. I want to

failed to find slave socket - (RuntimeError)
Hi everyone, I''ve a class that try to spawn two workers, every 5 seconds. The code is something like: while true do MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :researches_worker,:job_key => :researches) MiddleMan.new_worker(:class => :products_worker,:job_key => :products) sleep(5) end I''m using ":job_key", so if a worker hasn''t already ended its work

Behaviour of pool_size setting
Hi, I have backgroundrb running to decouple the execution of massive business logic from an ActionWebservice request. The service is designed to take some configuration parameters and fire a lot of background workers to do the requested work. Due to performance reasons I want to limit the number of workers to a maximum number of 30. But when I start a configuration that requires for example
