Drupal/MySQL performance in Xen and OpenVZ
Hi, We are considering a transition from OpenVZ to Xen for our web server infrastructure. The primary task performed by the virtual servers is to run a number of Drupal sites with a MySQL backend. The webserver and MySQL servers are on separate virtual hosts. We also have a number of smaller hosts running on the same hardware (a couple of dev-servers, a logging-and-monitoring server, a secondary

Fwd: About Centos 7 + Virt-manager
Dear Colleagues: I'm trying to use virt-manager to create a container with lxc, as the picture I attached, I indicated that I must point to a directory where the template is to manage it with virt-manager. I tried to use a template of http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated, but not working, being on the console option displays a black screen with nothing. I wonder,

OpenVZ variant
Greetings, I was reading the LWN article from today (free to non-subscribers next Thursday). Here's a subscriber link for those who might want to see it now: CentOS and Red Hat - http://lwn.net/SubscriberLink/592723/485ea802859f6c36/ I saw that Xen was mentioned as an area where CentOS went beyond RHEL with CentOS 6... and being that I'm deeply in the OpenVZ community, I thought it

HP ProLiant DL380 G5
I have CentOS 6.x installed on a "HP ProLiant DL380 G5" server. It has eight 750GB drives in a hardware RAID6 array. Its acting as a host for a number of OpenVZ containers. Seems like every time I reboot this server which is not very often it sits for hours running a disk check or something on boot. The server is located 200+ miles away so its not very convenient to look at. Is

State of Asterisk+Virtualization+Timing
Greetings- I'm about to dive into the process of virtualizing some of my Asterisk (primarily 1.4.x) infrastructure. In the past, when looking at virt solutions, the primary issue preventing me from moving was the lack of proper timing. We do not need it for MeetMe but rather for IAX2 trunking. I'd like to use either OpenVZ or KVM, but each seem to have independent "issues" that

Class dependency question
So I have two classes for openvz setup. The first is openvz::setup and it sets up the box for OpenVZ.. then another class (in same .pp file) called openvz::master sets up the config for the main system (as opposed to a VE). The error I see is that the openvz::master class is executed (and fails) becuase it doesn''t seem to load up the setup class? debug: Calling puppetmaster.getconfig

Migrating domains across nodes
Hi, I am exploring the migration APIs and was curious to know if I can use them with LXC containers for live migration from one node to another. If not LXC, then can I use them with OpenVZ containers ? If yes, what would be the general steps involved. Thanks, Sagar -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Centos 6 Software RAID 10 Setup
I am setting up a Centos 6.5 box to host some Openvz containers. I have a 120gb SSD I am going to use for boot, / and swap. Should allow for fast boots. Have a 4TB drive I am going to mount as /backup and use to move container backups too etc. The remaining four 3TB drives I am putting in a software RAID 10 array and mount as /vz and all the containers will go there. It will have by far the

Support live migration of OpenVZ container
Hi libvirt team, I was trying to migrate an OpenVZ domain from one host to another host. It seems that the live migration of OpenVZ container is there ( https://openvz.org/Migration_from_one_HN_to_another), but it haven't been integrated to libvirt yet. In particular, I ran the following commands and it failed: $ sudo virsh migrate --live --verbose --undefinesource 101 openvz+ssh://

GlusterFS VS OpenVZ kernel
Hi, We have a problem with glusterFS. We are using it on Centos 5 machine with OpenVZ kernel. Gluster daemon and gluster clients run on the host, not in the container. Recently we noticed a problem when we upgraded the OpenVZ kernel. After the upgrade there are strange errors in case of accessing the gluster volume. There are a few folders that can't be seen with 'ls' but if you

Issues to manage RAM on openvz guests
Hi all, I'm playing with virsh, and I succeed to mange easily some KVM nodes. But I have issues to size RAM of openvz guests. virsh set by default the the memory to 256M on each guest instead of that I specify in the XML I have to modify by end the variable PHYSPAGES on each /etc/vz/conf/id_of_my_vz.conf Please follow the XML dump and the steps that I did. OpenVZ, outgoing traffic blocked
I''ve been tearing my hair out on this one for the last couple of days, I even switched from CentOS on the physical server, to Debian, just to see if it would make a difference, but it didn''t. First of all, I''ll describe my setup: I have one Dell server, running Debian 6 with only one network port connected to my test LAN (eth0), and two test containers, also running

OS Virtualization: Linux-VServer and OpenVZ
Greetings, So, anyone on this list using OS Virtualization? I've been using OpenVZ for about 1.5 years. I also have some experience with Linux-VServer. In my experience, if you want to do Linux on Linux, both OpenVZ and Linux-VServer offer native performance, better scalability, and higher density than VMware, Xen or KVM... although I must admit I haven't actually tried KVM yet. If

diskspace and diskinodes tag for openvz
Hi! as far as I understood from "xml format for openvz driver" thread available at [1] it should be possible to specify via libvirt disk size and disk inodes for openvz VM.But the following device section in VM xml description doesn't set disksize and diskinodes properly (it looks like those parameters are taken from default OpenVZ config and not as they are specified in

web frontend for managing libvirt servers
Hi all, I know that redhat has some web based GUI for managing libvirt clusters, however, I am not having purchased redhat :-) Is there any good open-source web frontend you can recommend for managing your libvirt instances? Ideally with VNC/spice support for connecting to the remote? I know of proxmox, which we used so far for our openvz containers, but I am about to migrate to KVM (and

USB Boot
I noticed that the Supermicro X9SCL has a USB type-a port right on the motherboard. http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherboard/Xeon/C202_C204/X9SCL.cfm Has anyone used a port like this to boot the core OS and used the physical drives for OpenVZ and KVM containers? I figure a 64GB thumb drive would work. Anyone done this or will a USB thumb drive not stand up too the load? Seems much

Hi, We have released first preview release of OpenNode - http://opennode.activesys.org - an open source server virtualization solution providing easy to use (CentOS based) bare-metal ISO installer and supporting both OpenVZ container-based virtualization and KVM full virtualization technology on the same physical host out-of-the-box. So everybody who wants to use OpenVZ and KVM together on
