Partial file creation tripping up on aufs volume - tries to use a reserved name
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I'm backing up a file named 'wh.txt' with the destination an aufs volume - rsync creates a partial filename like '.wh.txt.M8ucDx', which results in an Operation not permitted (1) error - aufs reserves '.wh.*' names for whiteout records I think. Other than ignoring the problem and using --inplace, it doesnt look like I can

hardlinking and -R (multiple source directories)
Hi, now it's time to come back to this topic. As supposed, the missing hardlinks where no issue of rsync. I am not sure if pairing aufs (http://aufs.sourceforge.net/) and rsync -RH will catch each and every hardlink compared to a single filesystem, but it seems to work very reliable. I tried mhdfs and aufs. Aufs is faster and very stable (I am on wheezy kernel 3.2). So at last I have my

Access from multiple hosts where users have different uid/gid
I have a setup with multiple hosts, each of them are administered separately. So there are no unified uid/gid for the users. When mounting a GlusterFS volume, a file owned by user1 on host1 might become owned by user2 on host2. I was looking into POSIX ACL or bindfs, but that won't help me much. What did other people do with this kind of problem? -------------- next part -------------- An

wbinfo / Could not convert sid to gid / uid
Hello My is environment: Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, Squid 2.6.18, Samba 3.0.28a For Squid I need the query of a global group from Active Directory 2003. This works beautifully, but unfortunately not always. There are global groups which works to transform and others where it does not work. Here are my entries for test: # wbinfo -n nobadurl S-1-5-21-986273330-1409306274-1541874228-9965 Domain Group

How to create a Bootable Live CD/DVD from your Linux From Scratch (LFS) build
Subject of Hint: How to create a Bootable Live CD/DVD from your Linux From Scratch (LFS) build Good day from Singapore, I am Mr. Turritopsis Dohrnii Teo En Ming, based in Singapore. I have recently *successfully* created my own custom Linux distribution called Teo En Ming Linux 2020.03 (FINAL), which is based on Linux From Scratch 20200302-systemd book and Linux Kernel 5.5.7, on 12 March

Re: iscsi with gluster i want to make it
Hi Viraj, Gluster Ver. 3.x supports replication over WAN but currently very limited. I assume it will expand as time moves on. As for ISCSI. I doubt Glusterfs will ever support ISCSI. ISCSI operates at the block level. Gluster only works on the filesystem level. The only way to have iscsi on Gluster would be to export an iscsi target that is a file on gluster. As for snapshot and

Cannot use kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a blank harddisk
I am trying using a kickstart file to install CentOS 6.2 into a new virtual machine (the MBR sector of the harddisk is all zero), however I found that the installer cannot go through the harddisk partition. It failed after I chose "Use All Space" at harddisk partition option. The error message is: http://anony.ws/i/bMcTJ.png "You have not defined a root partition (/), which is

Harddisk support not working
Hi! after experimenting for days with xen I was finally able to narrow down why my xen setup is not working properly. When I add a harddisk to the guest system the guest system slows down so much that it becomes impossible to boot. In my hvm testsystem the guest system is a knoppix cd. When booting from the cd without having a harddisk in the guest system everything works perfectly. But as soon

Samba SID/RID, UID/GID Best Practices?
I have a new Samba 3 domain backed by LDAP. I am using Fedora-DS for LDAP component, so I have relied on a blend of tools to get up and running including Fedora-DS console and phpLDAPAdmin and (momentarily!) sambaldap-tools. I am generally following the great IDEALX How-To but having to adapt it somewhat. Standards for well-know Samba groups like "Domain Admins" were easy to
