rc14 and rc15 performance issues
Hi,
I am stuck at rc13 because rc14 and rc15 have both failed to keep
up with imap connections on my (slow old) system. I have the problem
where if a lot of people check their email at once (like at the
top of the hour) then my load goes way up and things slow to a
crawl. My setup: Solaris 10 on an E220R, mbox format, imap and imaps
only. I also use "login_process_per_connection =

two assertion failures
Hello!
I was able to overcome the earlier-reported problems (of dovecot treating
the standard mailboxes in /var/mail/ as directories) by specifying
mail_location (continuing to use the 0.99-era dovecot.conf did not work).
Then I started seeing assertion-failures like:
file istream-raw-mbox.c: line 499 (istream_raw_mbox_get_body_size): assertion failed: (rstream->mail_size != (uoff_t)-1)

I/O leak
I upgraded from rc12 to rc14 last night... sifting through the logs I noticed
the following. I point this out since it appears dovecot is in high gear
bug-fix mode. This issue is not big for me; I rarely stop dovecot. My init.d
script for dovecot is basically
stop)
killall dovecot imap-login
I am guessing there might be a more graceful way to stop dovecot? Or rc14
fixed this? I see in

TLS timeout with Thunderbird
I'm trying to get dovecot working with various clients on my new
mailserver. I installed the base rc2 that comes with OpenBSD 4.0,
then upgraded to rc14 when I ran into problems with TLS and
Thunderbird. The server has no problems with Mail.app on my laptop,
but any connection attempts from Thunderbird timeout after the TCP
handshake.

LDAP authentication stops working...
Hi all,
I'm running dovecot-1.0.rc17 on OpenBSD 3.9, using userdb and passdb
methods of "ldap" (SSL on 636/tcp) in addition to "passwd".
Occasionally (generally after a few hours of operation, but not always),
LDAP-based logins stop working (e.g. hang/timeout after POP3 PASS
command). Accounts with local passwords (as opposed to accounts with a
password field of

exim/kmail vs. dovecot
I am using exim via dovecot_deliver to store messages in Maildir in my $HOME.
I am using kmail to retrieve stuff. Unfortunately, something in my data
crashes dovecot.
I was using 1.0.rc14 from opensuse, but downloaded and installed 1.0.8 from
the site.
Here is the crash:

dovecot-2.2.21 ?????
fts_autoindex - index-worker problem
Hello List,
I installed dovecot-2.2.21 on CentOS 6.7.
I use ldap for userdb to separate an e-mail address and the user.
Index to apache solr failed in fts_authindex when I received an email
after setting.
The error message is "indexer-worker: Error: User 0029 at 09.jp lookup
failed: Unknown user"
Is there any solution?

45second delays on log in
Dear List Members,
We have been running Dovecot as an IMAP server for web based access
to email for our customers. At the moment, when the server is under
load, some users are finding that it takes 45 seconds to log in. I
was wondering if any of you guys would have any tips. I would love
any information that would help solve or debug this issue.
Background information:

matchname messages filling logs - howto stop?
Listmates,
I have had a few boxes where the 'matchname' message is filling my syslog with
one new message ever ~40 seconds or so. No performance problems, just the log
annoyance. An example of the messages are:

Compile from source FAILED - Mandrake 7.2
Mates,
The saga continues, but THANK GOD 'make revert' WORKS. Here is my
problem. I am trying to compile 3.0.7 from source and install it on my
Mandrake 7.2 box. The gcc compiler is 2.95.3. Here is what I have done:
[stop samba]
# ./configure --prefix=/usr --with-smbmount
# make
# make install
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/smb start
Here is what I get:

Slow Copy WinXX - Linux/Samba :-(
I never thought it would happen to me, but it did...
I have read threads about slow copies from WinXX to Linux/Samba on the
list in the past, but I don't recall a concise answer regarding what the
cause was.
THE PROBLEM:
Trying to copy an 8 meg file from Win95 to my Linux/Samba box (named
"Nemesis" - for good reason), the transfer speed slows to a crawl. The

givenname and email address with smbldap-tools
Hi all,
I have setup samba / openldap as describes by the idealx howto and as
such I am using the smbldap-tools. However, I would like to add the
givenname and email address fields for all users. What is the best way
to do this? I would prefer continuing to use the smbldap-tools, but I
cannot seem to find a good way to do this. When I try to: $
smbldap-usermod -M testuser@testdomain.net
