1.0.rc12 released
http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.rc12.tar.gz
http://dovecot.org/releases/dovecot-1.0.rc12.tar.gz.sig
Since rc11 has problems compiling with BSDs, here's a new release. Just
two changes:
- rc11 didn't compile with some compilers
- default_mail_env fallbacking was broken with --exec-mail
Here's also again the rc11 changes:
* Renamed default_mail_env to mail_location.

to make sure I didn't happen to break anything since rc10 :)

v1.0 plans, rc11 tomorrow
As you can probably guess from my today's burst of activity, I'm no
longer extremely busy. Actually it looks like for the next 3-4 weeks I
don't have anything especially time consuming to do. So it's time to get
Dovecot v1.0 released :)
I've now read all the mails from this list again, and it looks like
pretty much the only problems with rc10 was the mbox assert crash, which

BUG: passdb checkpassword {} and lastauth file
(Repeat, because on the first message there was no reaction)
Hi.
If checkpassword interface is used for working with vpopmail, function
vpopmail "Record time and ip of last auth attempt"
(--enable-auth-logging option for configure) won't work - the file
"lastauth" is created in Maildir, but does not contain ip-address. If I
had correctly understood, dovecot woldn't

Need help on checkpassword userdb/passdb
I'm experimenting with checkpassword as an auth method for usedb and passdb
(http://wiki2.dovecot.org/AuthDatabase/CheckPassword). I've set up the userdb
and passdb *exactly* as the wiki suggests as the "standard way":
passdb {
driver = checkpassword
args = /user/util/bin/checkpassword
}
userdb {
driver = prefetch
}
I've created a checkpassword program that does

RC11 Build Failure on FreeBSD 6.1
I just ran into a build failure on Dovecot 1.0RC11 on FreeBSD 6.1.
Identical command sequence for the build worked fine for RC10. uname -a:

Upgrade from RC7 to RC10 didn't go too well...
Hi,
On the weekend I tried to upgrade from RC7 to RC10. Clearly, I have to change
some things before I can do this. What does it take to get to RC10?
As is, my mail client got an error trying to list messages in /INBOX (via
IMAP) and the mail.err log shows the following messages:
Oct 29 10:27:32 siona dovecot: IMAP(archangel):
open(/var/mail/archangel/inbox, O_CREAT) failed: Not a

Using checkpassword to block ips?
Hi new to the list, but we are a long time user of Dovecot via DirectAdmin
control panel.
We, like everyone else, are seeing an increase in dictionary attacks of
POP/IMAP. We want to block them.
I've searched the mailing list and found a few recommended fail2ban, which
really won't work for our case. We need to do this over many machines and
not one or two. We also like to gather

chan_dahdi under bristuff 0.4.0-RC11 not building under Linux 10.04.2 LTS
Hi all,
I downloaded a copy of bristuff 0.4.0-RC11 on my Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS server
machine with 2.6.32-24-generic-pae kernel.
The prereq.sh script executes without complaints (BTW on my system,
libncurses-dev evaluates to libncurses5-dev and libz-dev evaluates to
zlib1g-dev).
With the asterisk 1.4.41 package that is installed, a make menuselect
operation indicates that all dependencies are met

Random quirks in 1.1-rc11
OK - I wish I had more details but I'm using rc11 for the server and
Thunderbird for the client. I'm using Maildir and I'm doing server side
folder delivery using Exim. On server side folders I'm seeing the count
of messages in a folder showing 22 unread messages but the messages
themselves don't show up. I deleted the index files and it still didn't
show up. But then

Domain variable in checkpassword
Hello everyone
I'm using the checkpassword method but I don't get the domain a user inputs.
I can't cross check per virtual domains if I'm not getting one, which means
it renders all my efforts useless.
I've tried sending %d as a variable to my checkpassword script, but I'm just
getting %d instead.
This is a dump of my information:

Expire plugin per domain
Dear Timo thank you for the help your giving me these.
I want to set expire plugin only for some domains in the same way I set autocreate plugin.

echo $USER > /tmp/autocreate
echo $DOMAIN >> /tmp/autocreate
if [ "$DOMAIN" = "operaciones.qnet.com.pe" ]; then

Security hole #4: Specific LDAP + auth cache configuration may mix up user logins
Somehow I doubt there are any Dovecot setups left that unknowingly have
this problem, but it still counts as a security hole. The possibility to
cause this problem exists in Dovecot v1.0.rc11 and later.
If you use:
1. passdb ldap with settings:
- auth_bind = yes
- auth_bind_userdn = no
- base containing %variables required for unique user identification,
e.g. base = dc=%d,dc=org
