Re: Problem upgrading to 3.0.4 and ArcServe
Hi,
Now it was my turn to get hit by the problem ....
The arcserv is running on windows server is W2003, the samba is 3.0.4a.
Winbind is not in use.
I'm was to connect to and to browse samba server using windows shell

The security context for both operations was the same.
Besides the interesting message "Error

Strange problem with 3.0.4
Dear list,
I recently updated my servers from 3.0.2 to 3.0.4.
After that upgrade I discover a strange problem:
I can mount/browse/whatever shares with Windows Explorer, MSIE, Firefox
... but I cannot use a mounted share with Macromedia Homesite. I can't
see anything in my logs, I allways get a "Connection refused. Maybe you
are not authorized to use this share."-message.

I am running veritas, and I needed to install a UNIX AGENT from veritas on

2 httpd configs
I normally don't do this - haven't got any traction on taroon list and I
want to get a backup going.
I have an RHEL 3 server and it is serving some simple web stuff
(horde/imp/etc.)
I have installed BrightStor ArcServe and I need it to also serve some
web pages. The ArcServe runs on a different port but has it's own
httpd.conf with the distribution.
The last time I did it, it was

macromedia homesite cannot browse share - no path
Hello,
I have my samba share running and I can access everything just fine from
my windows XP work station.
However I have a problem with macromedia homesite. I can see but not
open the share because homesite thinks I do not have access.
I have captured the network traffic with a sniffer and it seems the path
is a problem..
Here is a snip of my network traffic where 192.168.0.9 is my linux

vmware problem took down X on host?
I run VMWare server 1.07 on Centos 5. Last night I left a Windows 2000
virtual machine doing a ClamWin scan of drive M: when I went to bed around
midnight. Drive M: is actually a volume on the Centos 5 host, mounted via
Samba. It has about 40Gb of photos on it, plus a few other things. I had
the VM up visible in the VMWare Server Console running under KDE on display

problems running homesite
Hi there,
I have just installed wine (release 20010305) and it looks to work good.
I can run notepad without trouble, winecheck.pl has one bad and one critical result:
023. Checking device needed for DGA (option "UseDGA"): /dev/BAD (/dev/mem is not writable for you).
- ADVICE: Use chmod as root to fix it ("man chmod").

Can Map shares but cannot write
Here is the scenario:
AD-authentication is functioning fine. I can query users and group info
from wbinfo and getent just fine.
The clients can map to the shares, but cannot write to the shares. I have
tried variations of chmod 777 on absolute paths to enable read/write access
to no avail.
The share is configured as such:

comment = Test share
path = /home/share/students

Why can't my backup user log in to the share?
I'm trying to work out why I have the following problem, and I'd really
appreciate any help you guys can offer:
I have a samba share mapped as drive o: to an NT4 server, which happens to
be the machine that takes our backups. What I want to do is back up the
data on the Samba share too. Simple enough, you'd ahve thought, and I can
back up stuff from a Windows share fine. But,

Strange Samba permissions
Hi,
I am really stuggeling with Samba, searched forums and checked tutorials, so far with no success. So you are my last resort and probably the first place I should have checked, but I am completly new to mail groups, so please be patient with me.
Users can log in to the Samba PDC domain successfully and get the login script executed just fine.
But:

Samba 3 problems with file read/writes
I just updated my web server box, running Debian testing, to samba v3, and
am having some problems with a share. Can anyone advise me on this?
I have a share called "allsrvr" which is defined in my smb.conf file as
follows. Please note that security isn't an issue here. The server is
connected to my home system via a VPN and all smb/cifs ports are closed to

Nessus test issues with open shares
Hi,
My name is Joseph Villa, I'm new to the message boards and I'm also new to
Samba. I just got an e-mail back on our Nessus scans.. Here are the 2 that
are relivant..

ScriptLogic creates this share to store the logs, but does not properly
set the permissions on it. As a result, anyone
can use it to read the remote logs.
