getent not returning users or groups, 3.0.25rc3
Hello, I am not seeing any users or groups returned when I issue a 'getent passwd' or 'getent group' command with samba 3.0.25rc3. This worked when using v3.0.24 on both Gentoo and Debian 4.0. I am using the same config as before with the exception of the 'vfs objects = readahead' option for windows vista. Here is my samba config: [global] netbios name

vfs readahead && windows server 2016/2019?
Hi Jeremy, thank you for your very helpful response. We're looking at a few more options. Would you have the time to provide some guidance on these, how helpful they may be? - *aio ** -> https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/smb.conf.5.html#AIOREADSIZE - *write cache* -> https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/current/man-html/smb.conf.5.html#WRITECACHESIZE -

vfs readahead && windows server 2016/2019?
Quick question... The docs for vfs readahead mention Windows Vista, but what about modern Windows versions? Windows Server 2016 or Windows Server 2019? PDF file not getting deleted in File Share Folder!
Hi We are facing an issue with Samba3.0.25b. Some pdf files are not getting deleted from Samba fileshare. The sequence to reproduce this bug is as follows. Copy 150 PDF files in a shared folder. Open the file share (FILE_SHARE) from Windows XP+SP2. 1. open 1.pdf file then close 1.pdf file 2. Delete the 1.pdf file. 3. now, open 2.pdf file then close 2.pdf file 4. Delete the 2.pdf file. Repeat

problems with winbind, ads on 3.0.25rc3
I am having a problem getting active directory domain users to authenticate on my gentoo and debian systems with v3.0.25rc3 when it worked perfectly with v3.0.24. I am wondering if it is something in my configure options. Wbinfo returns users, groups and the rpc call test succeeds. The getent command only shows the local users. I have double checked my nsswitch.conf as well to make sure that

Nagging performance issues with Vista
Hi All, I've got some performance issues with Samba and Vista that I just can't seem to figure out. Googling and fiddling has all been in vain up until now, so I'm not sure what I can do other than wait for Samba 4, but maybe someone here can find something I've missed. First off, the server is an Athlon 64 1.8GHz running Gentoo 2006.1, tested with both Samba 3.0.24 and

Vista performance (uggh)
Issue: Vista reads slowly from a samba server. This appears to pop up periodically here and elsewhere. My samba.conf file has: [homes] ... vfs objects = readahead As suggested elsewhere. Writes are approximately 17-18MB/s which is acceptable. Reads are in the 8MB/s range which is appalingly slow. Using linux smbclient and windows XP clients I can read at 25+MB/s. I've enabled vfs

[nbdkit PATCH 3/4] filters: Utilize ACQUIRE_LOCK_FOR_CURRENT_SCOPE
Now that cleanup.h is in common code, we can use it in our filters where it makes sense. Many uses of pthread_mutex_unlock() are not function-wide, and over small enough snippets of code as to be easier to read when left as-is; but when the scope is indeed function-wide or across multiple exit paths, it is nicer to use the macro for automatic unlock. [PATCH v4 07/12] v2v: nbdkit: Add the readahead filter unconditionally if it is available.
The readahead filter is a self-configuring filter that makes sequential reads faster when the plugin is slow (and all of the plugins we use here are always slow). I observed the behaviour of the readahead filter with our qcow2 overlay when converting a guest from a vCenter source. Even when doing random reads, qemu issues 64K reads which happen to also be the minimum request size of the

Slow population of Properties in Windows Explorer
Hello, We recently deployed Samba 4.5 on Debian Jessie-derived Linux with kernel v4.5.7 sharing an XFS filesystem. We are migrating a large data set from old NetApp filers to the Samba share. While attempting to monitor the progress of the migration, we are observing very slow population of filesystem metadata in the Properties window (specifically the General tab for info like "Size"
