PATCH: Samba/Win2K renaming bug
Hi there. I'm running Samba 2.2.3a on RedHat 7.1 + kernel 2.4.17. My
girlfriend's laptop is running Windows 2000 + service pack 2. She has
about a thousand MP3s stored on a Samba share on my RedHat machine. We
were finding that she couldn't rename any MP3s on the Samba share: she
would always get a sharing violation.
After a day of reading Samba logs at debug 10 (_such_ fun [ ;)

Still reviewing this - but a few things that will need changing:
When adding the validate_nt_acl_blob() function in
[PATCH 06/12] vfs_acl_common: move the ACL blob validation to a helper function
this makes some of the existing function names in debug statements
incorrect.
Eg. validate_nt_acl_blob()

Juuuusttt *one* leetle change, sorry :-).
I was following the changes to the talloc heirarchy in the
code and realized that adding the following change made it
much clearer (at least to me).

Re: Coming round to SURS...
i have a question for the people who sponsor the samba team.
"when are you going to realise that your money is being
wasted by not sponsoring me as a design architect on
NT compatibility software suites for unix?"
here - yet again, another demonstration of how much money you have
been wasting.
hopefully this time this "really new" proposal - i.e. yet

Group mapping bugs + PATCH
Hi all !
I've been using group mapping for a few weeks and found some bugs... For
three of them, I tried to develop a small patch. I don't know Samba code
very well and this is my first patch, so there could be errors :-p I hope
my investigations will be useful :)
* Platform :
Here is what I used :
Debian 3.0r1, Samba 3.0.2rc1 - PDC, OpenLDAP 2.1.23 as backend

Great catch you guys ! Thanks for taking a look,
I've been busy on other stuff for the past few
weeks.
Let me go through the issue and proposed code
*really* carefully :-). The open code can

[PATCH] Group mapping primary group SID update
Hi all !
This is a patch for Group mapping bug #1 reported here :
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2004-January/034057.html
It activates users' primary group SID update when adding/modifying/deleting a
group mapping. It patches utils/net_groupmap.c (net_groupmap_add,
net_groupmap_modify, net_groupmap_delete) and can be applied to samba-3.0.2rc1.

File browser doesn't remember last directory over Dfs
Hi,
I have encountered some strange behaviour after upgrading to
3.0.12 on FreeBSD 4.10 file servers.
Normally when users on windows apps use the file browser to select
a file it remembers the selected directory between invocations, so
that, for example, they can easily read in multiple files from
the same directory, or if they click on Save As... it takes
them to the directory where they

Office2K & file overwriting problems
Using Office2K (Word & Excel) on NTWS 4.0 and samba 3.0.0 on Debian
Linux, kernel 2.4.21.
1. Run Excel and create a sheet. Save it to the Samba server. No problem.
2. Close the sheet and open a new one (File->New).
3. Try to save the new sheet over the first one and Excel gives the
error: "Cannot save the file. 'H:\test\Book1.xls' is not a valid file name."

large file pre-allocation causing Windows error
I'm trying to copy a 400 MB file from a Windows 98 host
to a FreeBSD 4.5 Samba server providing access to a FAT32
filesystem. I've got "strict allocate = no", but from
what I can see with debug set to 10, it is doing a
ftruncate which takes about 50 seconds to complete.
It appears that Windows gets impatient and generates
an error (while Samba is still waiting for the

passdb requires /etc/passwd entry?
Greetings everyone,
I have a question about the smbpasswd encrypted
database and /etc/passwd -- why does the passdb
backend require an entry in /etc/passwd? Is it
possible to create samba encrypted users without a
/etc/passwd entry?
I have a samba PDC setup that is mainly just a login
server, then a separate server for $HOME's. I have
all of my PAM configs setup to remotely authenticate

Fix for CVE-2015-5299 denies access to ZFS snapshots due to overly strict condition checking
OS platform: FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE-p25
Filesystem: ZFS
Samba version: upgraded from 4.1.17 to 4.1.22
Problem:
I have been using the shadow_copy2 and zfsacl VFS modules to enable
access control and the Previous Versions feature for Windows clients.
With /usr/local/etc/smb4.conf configured this way (excerpt):
vfs objects = shadow_copy2 zfsacl

Access Denied to shares in Lotus Notes and Outlook
Hi All,
I don't know if this is a samba problem or not, but if users want to add
files as an attachment
in Lotus Notes and MS Outlook, and these files reside on samba shares,
they get an "access denied" message.
This "access denied" message refers to the whole share not only a file.
Samba Server version is 3.0.4 on Sparc Solaris 8 acting as AD Member
Server (W2K DC).

Access Denied on Error 0 - 3.0.4
Experienced a strange bug in 3.0.4, but I think I've seen Jeremy
discussing this with another on the list with respect to root dir access
to a share, but can't find a bug in bugzilla.
WinXP-SP1 Goes to My Computer/Properties/Device Mangler/Net
Adap/Update Driver/Have Disk
When the attemp is made to browse the 3.0.4 share they get Access Denied
(they are an admin user on the share)
