rsync-2.5.5 released
A new version of rsync has been released. Because this version fixes
an bug that broke rsync's delta-update capability we recommend that
users upgrade when convenient.

rsync-3.0.2 -- two build problems
Hi,
when I tried to build rsync-3.0.2 on i686-linux/gnu, I noticed 2 problems:
====================
(1) With the Linux kernel >=2.6.20, "make check" occasionally fails, due to
subsecond timestamps sometimes being truncated and sometimes being rounded
upwards (both on i686 and x86_64).
Attached are two files demonstrating the problem: rsync-3.0.2-check-out with

rsync-2.5.4 -- 'make install-strip' failure
Hi,
I have already sent this once, but since the problem persists here it is again.
Please consider the attached patch for inclusion in the rsync distribution.
The patch fixes the problem that 'make install-strip' tries to strip the
manpages and thus fails.
An other part of the patch adds DESTDIR (for package building). This is
nowadays part of all automake generated Makefile's,

"error in rsync protocol data stream"
Hello,
I'm having a problem doing a remote rsync over ssh - i'm using a script that
has worked for quite a while, using rsync 2.4.6 on both ends. I upgraded the
"client" to 2.5.5, and began seeing this error:
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (158246 bytes read so far)
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(150)

samba-2.2.5 -- a minor "make install" problem and 2 suggestions
Hi,
I would like to ask you to consider the attached patch for inclusion into
the next samba release. The patch addresses the following three points:
1. 'make install' with VPATH fails at one point
( $(srcdir)/script/findsmb vs. script/findsmb )
2. support for 'make DESTDIR=<somewhere> install' (e.g. to build a binary
package)
3. support for 'configure

openssh-2.9p1
Hi,
1. I think you should apply the attached patch to openssh-2.9p1,
otherwise ssh-keyscan on linux boxes with glibc-2.1 will experience enormous
timeout delays.
2. Is there a program like ssh-keyscan for the Version2 (dsa and rsa) keys??

An openssl shared library versioning problem (fwd)
Hi,
Below a message I had originally sent to openssl-bugs.
The version mismatch mentioned below was
OpenSSL 0x0090603f vs. OpenSSL 0x0090601f
Meanwhile Richard Levitte <levitte at stacken.kth.se> has sent me the
following:

error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at token.c(288)
I am getting the following error when mirroring part of the RedHat
distribution tree over a slow connection (~T1 speed). When running
over a faster network (100BaseT) the problem does not appear. Note,
the problem file a large 600MB ISO image, whereas other small files
appear to be fine.

Problems with the rsync command line syntax for multiple files
I feel completely stupid for asking this question, but I have an
essential problem of getting the syntax right for synchronizing
multiple files. I am trying to use rsync to synchronize files
generated in one directory with our public directory our web server.
We have a number of files with the extension html so I have tried the
following command line:

Package keyval Error: noupquote undefined
Hi,
Due to a change in Rd.sty a few days ago
(https://github.com/wch/r-source/commit/620eb9a#diff-3bf3d821c6faae50cd6ec931f6f63296L272),
the default installation of TeXLive 2009 or 2012 no longer works when
building Rd to PDF. The error log is like this:

timeout error in rsync-2.5.5
Dear all,
I've been trying to track down a problem with timeouts when pulling data from
an rsync daemon and I have now run out of any useful ideas.
The problem manifests itself when I try to transfer a large directory tree
on a slow client machine. What happens then is that the client rsync process
successfully receives the list of files from the server, then begins checking
the local

Makefile.in (install-strip) problem & 2.5.2 build error
Hi,
1. "make install-strip" (in rsync-2.5.x) tries to strip the manpages and
thus fails; attached is a patch fixing the Makefile logic (and
also adding DESTDIR -- convenient for package-building or test-installing).
2. I just fetched rsync-2.5.2 but the build (on i686-linux) badly fails.
The complete log from configure and make is attached.

batch diffs
I needed a tool to produce diffs of binary volumes, and to apply them as
patches accordingly. So I tried the 'batch mode' that was added to rsync,
but it invariably segfaulted on reading the batches...
$ sh foo.rsync_argvs
foo.rsync_argvs: line 1: 8971 Segmentation fault rsync -a -v --stats --read-batch=foo ${1:-FOO}
rsync: error writing 64 unbuffered bytes - exiting: Broken pipe

Do you like rsync 2.5.5?
I'd very much like to get a stable 2.5 release out so that people can
upgrade their production machines with confidence and so that
distributors can freeze it. I know some people are still running
2.4.6 (+backports) for understandable reasons, but it would be good to
give them the option to upgrade and avoid the hang bug.
After this we can perhaps move on to 2.6 and be a bit more liberal in

rsync 2.5.5 segmentation fault on Linux x86.
Hi all.
I have a script which I call from cron. It basically does some stopping
of a few services, rsyncs all files to a remote server and then starts
the services again. However, rsync segfaults:
/share/bin/cron.root.backup.sh: line 28: 18453 Segmentation fault rsync -acx --delete ${_backup_dirs} backup-server::backup-client
If I run rsync from the command-line everything works as

rsync: connection unexpectedly closed; reverse lookups?
Hi.
My goal is to use rsync to syncronize box1 and box2. On box2, I have a
tapedrive which I write the data I syncronize from box1 every night.
On box1, my /etc/rsyncd.conf looks like this:
root@box1# cat /etc/rsyncd.conf
max connections = 1
syslog facility = local6
[tmp]
path = /tmp
read only = yes
comment = export of /tmp
hosts allow = box2
